  1. 13:15 - Nadal collapses to the floor, partly in exhaustion and partly due to a trip and the Spaniard now holds three of the four majors

  2. 2-6 - THIS TIME NADAL DOES WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN when Federer sends his forehand just deep of the baseline!

  3. 40-A - Nadal earns himself another MATCH POINT by whipping a backhand across court at an acute angle ...

  4. 40-40 - As does the second when Nadal slices a single-handed backhand wide of the sidelines ...

  5. 30-40 - The first goes begging as Nadal sends his backhand return long on a second serve ...

  6. 15-40 - Federer pulls a relatively easy cross court forehand wide to gift Nadal TWO MATCH POINTS ...

  7. 2-5 - Nadal holds to love once again, with ease, to leave Federer serving to stay in the set. Federer looks gone, absolutely gone

  8. 2-4 - Federer holds to love to stop the run of games against him and raise hopes of a comeback on Rod Laver Arena

  9. 1-4 - Three games in a row from Nadal as he holds to 30 when Federer hits into the net and this title is fast slipping away from the world number two

  10. 1-3 - Federer pulls a cross court backhand wide to gift the Spaniard a break point ... and NADAL BREAKS when Federer hits another cross court backhand into the net. That was a shaky game from the world number two

  11. 1-2 - Nadal holds to love with an inside out forehand winner across court. His first love service game of the match

  12. 1-1 - Federer also holds to 15 to get his fifth set tally off the mark working his way into the net on the back of a fearsome forehand before smashing the resulting forehand overhead away for a winner

  13. 0-1 - Weary Nadal just keeps pushing himself and holds to 15 to open up this fifth and final set

  14. 6-3 - One of his most comfortable service holds of the whole match as FEDERER TAKES THE FOURTH SET TO LEVEL THE MATCH ONCE AGAIN!

  15. 5-3 - Nadal holds to force Federer to serve out the set ... this is tense!

  16. 5-2 - Federer races through a service hold to cement the break as Nadal begins to look very weary indeed

  17. 4-2 - Nadal hands Federer another break point as he hits a forehand wide ... and FEDERER DOES BREAK as Nadal hits long off a ferocious forehand from the world number two

  18. 3-2 - Federer throws a fourth double into the game before hitting wide off the backhand side as Nadal earns himself a break point ... Federer saves it when Nadal hits a backhand just wide off a drop shot. The Spaniard will get another chance though after the rally of the tournament which ends with Nadal hitting a forehand winner straight down the line at full stretch ... Federer produces an ace out wide to save it and eventually goes on to hold with yet another drop shot

  19. 2-2 - A little call of "vamos" from Rafa as he takes four points in a row to hold from 0-30 down

  20. 2-1 - Nadal whips a forehand down the line that Federer can only return into the net for a break point ... and NADAL BREAKS STRAIGHT BACK with a dipping forehand winner

  21. 2-0 - Nadal hits into the net to gift Federer another two break points ... and this time THE WORLD NUMBER TWO DOES BREAK by firing a forehand passing shot down the line for a winner. That takes Federer's tally to just five of 18 on the break point conversion rate!

  22. 1-0 - Federer holds for a relatively easy service game to open up the fourth set

  23. 6-7 - But Federer slaps in his third double fault, the second serve catching the top of the tape and landing long, and NADAL TAKES THE THIRD SET

  24. TB3-6 - Nadal earns himself THREE SET POINTS with a stunning backhand volley off a Federer forehand pass ...

  25. TB3-3 - Fittingly the tie-break is level at 3-3 at the change of ends. One set all, six games all, three points all. You can't get much closer than this!

  26. 6-6 - Federer saves it with a great first serve down the T before setting up a point to force the tie-break when Nadal pushes his forehand across court just wide ... but Nadal brings the scores back to deuce with a forehand return of serve straight down the line. But Federer holds with a stunning backhand across court and an ace out wide to force the breaker

  27. 30-40 - The element of self doubt creeps back into Federer's game as he hits into the net to gift Nadal a SET POINT ...

  28. 5-6 - Federer earns himself another two break points ... the first goes begging as Nadal controls the rally and Federer hits into the net ... as does the second as Federer slaps a forehand long (confirmed by a hawkeye challenge) after a lengthy rally. Federer gets a third chance when Nadal hits just long (also confirmed by a hawkeye challenge)... but again Nadal saves it with a forehand into the same corner as the one he just missed and the Spaniard manages to hold once again. Somehow.

  29. 5-5 - A solid service hold from Federer to sling all the pressure back over the net on to Nadal, who again had the trainer out at the change of ends for treatment to his right thigh

  30. 4-5 - A weary game from Nadal as he makes three consecutive errors, including a forehand down the line that goes wide, to hand his opponent three break points ... Nadal saves the first with a vicious backhand cross court winner, and the second with an inside out forehand winner across court. Federer squanders the third by slapping a forehand into the net and Nadal goes on to hold to leave the three-times winner serving to stay in the set after the change of ends

  31. 4-4 - Federer holds to 15 to keep things on serve. Nadal had the trainer out on court at the change of ends for some massage on his legs, his right leg in particular. It doesn't look anything much to worry about but it's obviously playing on his mind and Federer will have taken comfort from the sight of Nadal struggling a little

  32. 3-4 - Nadal holds to 30 when Federer hits out but the Spaniard was forced to recover from 15-30 down in that game

  33. 3-3 - Nadal earns himself a first break point in this set ... Federer saves it though with a forehand winner straight in to the corner before going on to hold when Nadal slaps long twice in the row

  34. 2-3 - Nadal comes up with a stunning forehand cross court passing shot at full stretch and full speed running across the baseline on his way to another service hold

  35. 2-2 - Federer holds with his eighth ace and by getting luck on a poor drop shot that Nadal puts straight back to him before the Spaniard sends his volley deep of the baseline

  36. 1-2 - Nadal finds himself in a spot of bother at deuce on his own serve but he somehow comes up with an angled forehand winner from the centre of the court whilst back-tracking before going on to hold

  37. 1-1 - Federer holds slamming down a forehand smash after a poor attempted backhand lob from Nadal

  38. 0-1 - A couple of great forehand winners down the line from Nadal help the Spaniard hold for the opening game of the third set

  39. 6-3 - But once again only the one is needed and ROGER FEDERER TAKES THE SECOND SET TO LEVEL THE MATCH when Nadal sends his second serve return well long of the baseline

  40. 40-15 - A frustrated game from Nadal leaves Federer with TWO SET POINTS ...

  41. 5-3 - Nadal hits long on a game point and Federer earns himself a fifth break point ... and this time the WORLD NUMBER TWO BREAKS when Nadal tries to whip a forehand across court but puts it into the net

  42. 40-40 - A great window of opportunity now for Federer as he produces a blistering backhand winner to set up another two break points ... Nadal saves the both with heavy first serves that force the error from Federer. But the world number two quickly gets another chance when Nadal hits into the net ... again Nadal saves it though with a service winner. Federer pounces on a short ball to smack a forehand volley winner for a fourth chance ... but again Nadal saves it with a clever forehand drop shot.

  43. 4-3 - Federer produces a much more solid service hold, blasting a couple of great forehand winners down before Nadal slapped into the net on game point

  44. 3-3 - Nadal throws in his first double of the game as he gifts his opponent a break back point ... and FEDERER DOES BREAK BACK immediately, with a yell of come on, as Nadal slaps a forehand long

  45. 2-3 - Federer gifts Nadal a break point with another error. That's his 20th of the game, twice as many as Nadal ... and NADAL BREAKS when Federer hits a forehand into the net

  46. 2-2 - Federer earns himself a break point running round the ball to drill a forehand winner across court at an acute angle ... but Nadal saves it with his first ace of the match before going on to hold and keep things level

  47. 2-1 - A love game from Federer, his first of the match, keeps the world number two just in front in this set

  48. 1-1 - Nadal also gets off the mark in this set holding to 15 with an angled backhand winner across court

  49. 1-0 - Federer holds to 30 for the first game of the second set with his fifth ace of the match which just catches the outside of the line despite Nadal challenging

  50. 5-7 - THERE IS THE SET FOR NADAL! A high quality set of tennis from both players ends with a equally quality rally with Nadal being forced to race around all parts of the course before moving up to a shorter ball and banging a forehand down the line for the winner

  51. 30-40 - Nadal squanders the first, looking confused when he misses a forehand. Still one remainding though ...

  52. 15-40 - Federer slaps a forehand long afer a lengthy rally and Nadal has TWO SET POINTS ...

  53. 5-6 - Another nervy game from Federer and an error hands Nadal another two break points ... only the one is needed though and NADAL BREAKS at the first attempt with a forehand passing shot winner down the line. The Spaniard will serve for the set after the change of ends

  54. 5-5 - Nadal drills a ferocious forehand down the line for what he thinks is a winner but Federer just sticks out his racquet and deflects the ball back across court on the backhand side for an agled drop shot winner. Absolute class for the first point of the game. Nadal recovers though and holds to 30 when Federer hits a backhand into the net

  55. 5-4 - Federer holds again to leave Nadal serving to stay in the set. It's crunch time for the Spaniard

  56. 4-4 - Nadal holds to 30 when the Federer hits into the net. An important service hold for Nadal that one to steady the ship

  57. 4-3 - Absolutely sensational from Nadal as he somehow picks a ball up off the floor to whipped a forehand winner down the line for 30-30 before setting up a break point with a forehand cross court winner an at acute angle ... and NADAL BREAKS RIGHT BACK when Federer throws in his second double fault

  58. 4-2 - Federer is really starting to settle again now as he comes up with a forehand winner to earn himself another break point ... and FEDERER DOES BREAK running round a high second serve to blast another forehand winner straight down the line. There was no way that was coming back!

  59. 3-2 - Nadal thinks he has come up with a forehand winner down the line to bring up a break point but Federer challenges and the ball is shown to have just dropped long. Federer goes on to hold with his second ace, albeit only from deuce

  60. 2-2 - Nadal also posts his first hold off the match, with Federer taking just the one point this time. Both players are firmly settled into this match now

  61. 2-1 - A much better, more confident service game from Federer as he holds to get in front

  62. 1-1 - Rafa's forehand hits the top of the tape and drifts wide gifting Federer an immediate break back point ... but Nadal saves it with a big serve down the T that Fed can only return into the net. Federer earns a second with a forehand winner ... but again the chance goes begging when Federer's forehand hits the top of the net and lands wide. But Nadal gifts the second seed a third chance but hitting out ... and this time FEDERER BREAKS wrong-footing Nadal with a forehand winner down the line.

  63. 0-1 - A unusually nervy start from Federer, who even throws in a double fault. It's his first double fault since the fifth set against Berdych in the fourth round. Federer also sends a backhand long and the Spaniard has a break point ... NADAL BREAKS. A very awkward shot for Federer to play but he runs around his forehand and shanks it well wide. A very shaky start from the three-times champion.

  64. 0-0 - So here we go then. Nadal won the toss and opted to receive so it is Roger Federer who will get us underway ...

  65. 08:49 - The players are out on court now and going through their warm-up. This is their seventh major final together with Nadal leading the previous six meetings 4-2 on the head-to-heads

  66. 08:18 - These two players have met each other an incredible 18 times since Miami Masters in 2004 and 17 of those meetings have been either in the semis or the final of a tournament. Rafa leads the head-to-heads 12-6 but all that means absolutely zip - Federer will be looking for revenge for that epic Wimbledon final and Nadal will be looking for his first Grand Slam title on a hard court. It's got all the makings of a classic so stick with us!
