  1. - - So Nadal will have to wait another year for the Miami Masters title as Del Potro moves into the last four of a Masters event for the first time!

  2. 7-6 - AND HE DOES IT! NADAL FINDS THE NET AND DEL POTRO HAS HIS DAY AT LAST!

  3. 6-3 - Del Potro comes from a mini-break behind to win three straight points to earn three match points! The first two are on Nadal's serve...

  4. 3-2 - At 2-2 in the breaker, Nadal gets a huge slice off luck off the net chord...he holds up his hand, but the damage might be done...

  5. 6-6 - With the whole crowd ready for a big winner Del Potro with an unforced error hammers it into the net! Game point Nadal... which he takes as Del Potro's return goes long, Nadal stays in the match!

  6. 5-6 - An ace from Nadal! Deuce again. If Del Potro loses this expect tears....

  7. 5-6 - Double fault from Nadal! Who'd have thunk it! Advantage Del Potro and a third match point to the Argentine!!

  8. 5-6 - Oh but after a baseline rally Nadal loses his balance and fires wide! Deuce again!

  9. 5-6 - Perfect serve and volley at the net from Nadal, advantage in a game he almost lost to bounce out of the Miami Masters. Even if he loses, this is some display from the world number one.

  10. 5-6 - Del Potro smashes it into the net after some survivalist tennis from Nadal at the baseline! Deuce! Aaaaggh! I can't take this any more!

  11. 5-6 - Ace from Nadal! 30-40, fighting to stay in this tournament!!

  12. 5-6 - Del Potro goes 30-15 up after a thrilling rally, he's finding his best tennis when it counts and he has two match points when Nadal inexplicably sends a simple volley wide!!!

  13. 5-6 - An unforced error by Del Potro after he sent Nadal scurrying all over the court puts it 15-15 when Del Potro really was in control to take a lead against serve. Missed chance.

  14. 5-6 - Del Potro's second serve barely gets over but Nadal smashes it into the net. Poor shot, 6-5.

  15. 5-5 - A flamoboyant smash at the net sees Del Potro edge ahead but he spurns the chance to win the game and hold when he sends a long forehand with far too much venom. Out, 40-30...

  16. 5-5 - First point goes to Nadal but a superb pass down the right after a good return sees even Nadal rooted to the spot. 15-15.

  17. 5-5 - Nadal holds after Del Potro puts it into the net while stretching low to his right and then sends a desperate lob long. Going the distance it is.

  18. 4-5 - Del Potro takes the first point with a super return, if he breaks here he's won it!!

  19. 4-5 - Nadal challenges after he's called long, correctly it transpires. Why didn't he save that for later? Poor decision. Del Potro is 40-15 up and he holds with an ace down the middle.

  20. 4-4 - Nadal finally holds a game. This is probably going the distance. Del Potro starts with an ace.

  21. 3-4 - Del Potro holds though taking a 4-3 lead into the latter stages of this final set.

  22. 3-3 - And it's in! Del Potro had sat down assuming it was another spurious appeal but Nadal got it right this time and it's back to advantage Del Potro.

  23. 3-3 - Great stuff from Del Potro though, restoring deuce with a superb backhand volley after a stunning rally and using his serve to take advantage. Another brief rally is halted as Nadal goes long but he challenges...

  24. 3-3 - A very tough service game for Del Potro. He went ahead with some powerful serves but Nadal has fought back to deuce and now has a break point. Second serve too for Del Potro after he sends that one wide...

  25. 3-3 - Good rally with Del Potro two break points up, Nadal using the lines well but the Argentine races across with a big shot across court to win it! Another break! Brilliant comeback, it's even-stevens again!!

  26. 3-2 - Oh goodness! Del Potro has THREE break points with Nadal suddenly falling apart on his serve! This is silly! What is happening? A combination of unforced errors and good shots from Del Potro but still...

  27. 3-2 - A straightforward hold for Del Potro, who has re-found his mojo.

  28. 3-1 - Del Potro breaks! 3-1. It's on again...

  29. 3-0 - Oooh, three break points to Del Potro after Nadal goes awol, slamming his racquet into the floor in disgust at another unforced error. He follows that with an ace though.

  30. 3-0 - It's advantage Nadal now and Del Potro is on second serve and after a great rally with both men diving across the net Del Potro - who did really well to get there - cannot get his sliced shot over the net and Nadal breaks again.

  31. 2-0 - A wild lob from Del Potro is not returned with the interest one would excpet from Nadal but Del Potro can't scramble across quickly enough and spoons his next lob well wide.

  32. 2-0 - Nadal goes 30-0 ahead in this game but Del Potro battles back to deuce, he won't go out without a fight but Nadal is in control here.

  33. 2-0 - Nadal fights back to deuce and then advantage and he holds that game with a superb ace. Del Potro just can't take his chance any more.

  34. 1-0 - Del Potro now has two break points after some aggressive play at the baseline. This is far from a foregone conclusion but after a clever clip wide Del Potro lofts it back court but Nadal is there to smash. 30-40.

  35. 1-0 - Nadal launches straight into Del Potro and has three break points, which he takesm, a love game and Del Potro is - as we have seen before - falling apart.

  36. 6-3 - Brilliant rally is finished by a superb Nadal angled forehand from the baseline into the far left with Del Potro rooted to the spot. Nadal takes the game and the second set.

  37. 5-3 - A great rally sees the pair exchange drop-shots before Del Potro plays one too deep for even Nadal to reach. 0-15. Ace brings them level though.

  38. 5-3 - Del Potro holds serve with a selection of serve-volley combinations. He has to break now though.

  39. 5-2 - Easy, easy hold for Nadal who is powering his way through this second set.

  40. 4-2 - A love break! Massive from Nadal who has come back in style!

  41. 3-2 - Well then well then. Nadal smashes a couple of winners with his immense forehand to gain three break points.

  42. 3-2 - Del Potro is trying to break right back though and brings it to deuce with a wonderfully improvised lob when he was falling. Nadal holds though and is ahead, 3-2.

  43. 2-2 - And he breaks him back with an unstoppable return! Brilliant response from Nadal as he punches the air in delight.

  44. 1-2 - Nadal with a brilliant forehand across the court to leave Del Potro floundering and earn two break points...

  45. 1-2 - Okay, Nadal is in trouble now so he pulls a blinding backhand down the line from Del Potro's first serve to go 3-0 up.

  46. 1-2 - Del Potro works it to deuce and after a rally Nadal sends a forehand long and he's challenging! This is for another break! And it's upheld! Oh dear, Del Potro breaks Nadal again, 2-1!

  47. 1-1 - Well then, Del Potro's return forced Nadal to play it long, he challenges but upheld. 0-15 to Del Potro. Nadal battles back to 30-15 but the next rally, which is made up of delicate backhand slices and chips across the net, finishes with a powerful backhand down the line by Del Potro, to which the crowd sound their approval.

  48. 1-1 - Del Potro muscles his way through that service game, shades of Nadal to his game only taller and fractionally less mobile.

  49. 1-0 - A nice easy hold for Nadal as he pummels his way to business of trying to break back against the tall Argentine.

  50. 4-6 - No problem there then, Del Potro serves for the set and takes it! 6-4 to the youngster against the world number one.

  51. 4-5 - Del Potro is serving for the set but Nadal is making him work very hard, 30-15 and a lengthy rally could go either way... but it comes off the side of Nadal's racquet and Del Potro has two set points!!

  52. 4-5 - A wonderful return from Del Potro and he wins the next point too to go 30-0 up! Now he has two break points, 40-15 and SURELY he must take one of these? He doesn't take the first one, firing into the net after a the pair exchange forehand... but he takes the next chance as Nadal's shot is out, 5-4!

  53. 4-4 - Long from Del Potro to put Nadal 30-30. He handed that to the Spaniard when he should have extended to 40-15. And now Nadal has a break point after a great return to Del Potro's serve... A cracking baseline rally sees Del Potro fall off balance but Nadal comes to the net and his volley is long! Deuce. And Del Potro holds, both men miss good chances to break.

  54. 4-3 - Del Potro has the Argentine contingent in the crowd on their feet with a stunning pass to take the opening point only for Nadal to rally back to 30-30. On the next point, Nadal hits the net after a mammoth rally to bring up break point! Nadal smashes his way back to deuce before volleying his way to the game.

  55. 3-3 - Two unforced errors from Del Potro gift Nadal a 30-0 lead, but an ace immediately after does something to relieve the pressure. Another one a point later puts the Argentine in the driving seat before a third ace sees him hold serve in style!

  56. 3-2 - A brief rally is won by a great forehand from Del Potro to bring it to 15-15. Nadal powers his way to the game though.

  57. 2-2 - Del Potro storms to 40-0 up but a great return from Nadal brings him back into this game... Great first serve from Del Potro though, who holds again.

  58. 2-1 - Good service game from Nadal to hold, this could go down to single breaks per set or tie breaks I'd say...

  59. 1-1 - Del Potro races 40-0 up in his first service game but Nadal battles back with two good returns of serve and it's 40-30... Del Potro has a fierce enough serve and he holds.

  60. - - Nadal on serve and he powers his way to the opening game.

  10. I'm a Great fan of Nadal and it's painful he lost. I honestly think he needs to be more flexible in his style so he can quickly adapt to the diverse styles of the opponents he faces. He seems too predictable in style. Good luck to Potro though I cant see him survive the next opponent wether Murray oe Verdasco

It is also true that Nadal is tired along the way. it is not easy to win back to back Masters series. Credit to that young man too. He is still the moment champion. Now, up to that cry-baby of federer to prove to his supporters that he has something left in him, let alone a desire to compete for grand slams.

  15. Didn't see that one coming! It's amazing this game. When Fed played him in the Australian, it was the most one sided match I'd seen, but here he is beating Nadal. I guess every player has his bogeyman, could Del Potro be Nadals? In any case, I bet Roger sleeps better tonight!

  19. Great game by JMD Potro!!! At last, someone to drill off this warrior called Nadal! Well done; this simply shows that agressive response against Nadal is THE key to defeat him; not the cry-baby game that Federer always plays! You have to take your victory against all your opening and that is the cutting-edge nadal has had over the recent years, which federer has lost!!!

From duweb, on Fri 3 Apr 12:16AM
  20. Juan needs to thank GOD for his mercies. Terrific win for him.
