Victoria Azarenka clinches victory in the final of the WTA Miami, with her first ace of the match helping her along the way, winning 6-3 6-1! The Belarussian has to survive a break point, in one last valiant effort from the injury-hampered Serena Williams, but she shows resilience in coming through her final test. Thanks for joining us! Follow the final of the Miami Masters tomorrow, with Andrew Murray up against Novak Djokovic.
5-1 -
Azarenka slams a forehand down the line after dragging Williams out of court with a precise volley, to extend her lead to 5-1, with a shriek of approval. The Belarussian now has the opportunity to put the American out of her discomfort out on court, and serve out for the tournament.
4-1 -
Williams gives it everything, with three crushing forehands down the middle of the court, but Azarenka copes with the onslaught admirably, and sends her opponent out wide to further establish her advantage.
3-1 -
Azarenka threatens to run away with this second set, as Williams drops her level noticeably as a result of her restricted movement; she leads 3-1.
2-1 -
Azarenka is given a standing ovation from members of her support team as she closes out another service game with a forehand cross-court, which Williams can't move sprightly enough to strike.
1-1 -
Williams holds, showing impressive resolve to continue powering her shots from the back of the court, undeterred by her earlier unforced errors. A forehand out of Azarenka's reach in the deuce court gives the American the game.
1-0 -
Azarenka begins the second set with a pretty convincing hold, but you still feel Williams has the shots to take a grip of the match, despite her opponent's more comfortable movement.
6-3 -
Break and set Azarenka! The Belarussian brings up two set points with a forehand down the line, but Williams follows an ace with a cross-court half-volley to level at deuce. Two further set points follow: the first Williams saves with another ace, before finding the net tamely with the second.
5-3 -
Azarenka holds to move one game away from taking the first set, with Williams going for broke on three of her groundstrokes, causing one winner and two unforced errors.
4-3 -
A powerful back-hand down the line gives Azarenka a double break-point, the first of which Williams saves with a deep volley, and the second from storming in to the net to prompt a loose lob. But after taking the game to deuce, Williams is finally broken for a second time.
3-3 -
Azarenka races to 30-0, aided by Hawkeye's backing over a tight line-call, before a double-fault lets Williams back in it at 30-30, but she levels at 3-3 with a crisp forehand down the line.
3-2 -
A stupendous cross-court forehand gives Williams the first point on her serve, with a sliced ace out wide gives her a valuable hold to lead 3-2 - this first set is intriguingly poised.
2-2 -
Williams hits back with real determination and resolve; Azarenka was simply not allowed to settle into her service rhythm, and the American refused to let extended rallies develop.
2-1 -
Despite a nervy start from Azarenka, she breaks Williams to seize the early initiative in this first set. Three strong forehands out to Williams's back-hand yielded the break, with the American striking tamely into the base of the net.
1-1 -
Confident hold by Azarenka, as the Belarussian keeps her groundstrokes in check, waiting for the two unforced errors from Williams which gave her the game.
1-0 -
Williams appears to be playing with some trepidation, unsure as to the impact she is willing to put on her left thigh. But she survives her first service game to 30, with a powerful cross-court forehand to clinch it.
- - Serena Williams, with a heavily bandaged left leg, wins the toss and elects to serve first.

Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka both go through their vigorous warm-ups, before this WTA Miami final, with the Stadium Court crowd swelling. Williams is sporting a lurid orange outfit, which is frankly piercing on the eyes.

You didn't fight back Serena. Fix up your fitness & your game, set some NEW RECORDS then walk away from Tennis & leave the dry lepers to squabble amongst themselves with their self righteous fault finding perfection.
No 41 YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT. This was Serenas chance to change the record book in the history of tennis. What other player has the titles to their name right now to change it? Serena didn't fight. Serena gave up. Thats what bothers me. Serena let Aza walk all over her. 6-3 6-1. No spirit, complete walk over. WEAK.
Injury and sickness is a sportsman's nightmare. If u don't then ask Azarenka what happened to her against Serena in the Australian Open or what happend to Serena against Azarenka. These 2 ladies are bad luck against each other lately. We hope they get to play each other at a 100%. For now it's Azarenka's turn to enjoy the moment and pray that she will continue to meet the Williams Sister while they are hampered with injuries 'cause that's the only time she can pull off a victory.
hi
hi
serena's defeat hurts a lot some people here he he
SERENA LOST. FEEL STRONG & BETTER NOW??? HEH HEH HEH
READ HOW SOME OF YOU THINK. STRANGE PEOPLE. VERY STRANGE. AZARENKA WON. WELL DONE, YOU PLAYED WELL
& YOU'RE STILL COMPLAINING? WHAT KIND OF HUMANS ARE YOU?
When Serena wins you haters pour scorn on her. When she loses you still do thesame. What a world we live in!Please humans, just purge yourselves of such hate and see the difference it will make in your lives.Azeranka won and congrats to her.Is just another game.
Ah yes, the "post-injury", 3 month withdrawal period that is all Serena. So charming. She never plays another tournament right after a loss does she?
well done Victoria !
Wait till the actual press interview...then come the excuses and disparagement of the opponent. She's just embarrassed right now and doesn't want to get jeered off the court for how bad her sportsmanship is.
Serena injury is fake...Now she is going to come up with excuses as to why she has lost the match... Than she will start to pull out of her next week tournament citing injury.... WTA should slapped heavy fines to punish her and deduct ranking points from her. Now Serena will go hiding and dwell in her pathetic lost for weeks........
Watching the 3rd set of Venus and Serena the other night, with Serena being somewhat injured and Venus looking uninterested and hitting the ball everywhere but the court....that was the first time I ever wondered if their matches might be staged as some have suggested in the past. Maybe it is a predetermined family decision of who will win before the match ever starts??
I hope you guys listened to what Serena just said, "ALL CREDIT GOES TO VICTORIA", so all the she gives no credit comments, take it away
I think Venus would have won this. I think Venus went a little to easy on Serena. Venus is the true number one in my eyes. Does anyone agree? WELL DONE AZARENKA
nice to see mary jo still looking so stunning, classy lady for sure.
im curious to read serena's excuses for that defeat
Brilliant. Serena was well and truly humiliated.
