  1. 6-2 - And he finishes it with a trademark top spin forehand pass down the line and Nadal is the champion in Rome once more!! Little more that Djokovic could do in the end, but the Serbian will regret that breaker. Nadal continues to reign supreme on the red dirt.

  2. - - Djokovic looks out on his feet here and it's two match points for Nadal.

  3. 5-2 - Djokovic is giving it his best here, but he just can't find a way through the Nadal defences. When Nadal smells victory there's very little an opponent can do on clay. He's just one game away now.

  4. - - Sublime lob from Nadal from an unlikely position behind the baseline gives Nadal the early advantage in game seven.

  5. 4-2 - And Djokovic ends a tired-looking effort with a double fault to hand the break to Nadal on a plate!

  6. - - Make that three! A tired forehand finds the net and it's break point!

  7. - - Two errors in a row from Djokovic leads to deuce in game six.

  8. - - Unbelievable tennis from the pair of them! Djokovic at full stretch makes the volley to win a point that required super-human reflexes. 30-15.

  9. 3-2 - Nadal comes through eventually, but these games must be taking their toll physically on the players. Djokovic could barely raise his racquet during the last point.

  10. - - A rare double fault from Nadal means 30-30.

  11. - - Another brilliant point with great hustle from Nadal, but Djokovic has his arms aloft again after hitting the winner. It soon turns to despair though as another long rally ends with an unlikely Nadal winner! 30-15.

  12. 2-2 - And Nadal mistimes a forehand to allow Djokovic to come through his service game.

  13. - - Great point! Djokovic holds his arms aloft as he finally gets a drop shot right to give him the chance to hit a winner.

  14. - - He comes out with three straight points though to nulify that danger, but a wide ground stroke leads to deuce.

  15. - - Djokovic loses the first two points of this service game. Danger here!

  16. 2-1 - Djokovic makes it easier for Nadal and he takes the game with a lovely pass down the line that Djokovic once again feels the need to applaud.

  17. 1-1 - Much easier hold for the number three seed. He serves it out to love.

  18. 1-0 - Nadal comes through in the end for the hold, but that was hard work for the world number one.

  19. - - Nadal is holding on a bit here and he just about saves the break point when a Djokovic lob goes wide.

  20. - - And now he forces a break point with some heavy hitting from the baseline!

  21. - - Djokovic finds his way back from 40-0 to deuce on Nadal's serve in the opening game of set number two.

  22. - - Not the best breaker that Djokovic will ever play because Nadal's level has slipped in the last 20 minutes - no doubt about that.

  23. 7-6 - And then follows it up with an unforced error and a poor drop shot to give the set to Nadal by 7-2! Djokovic had his chances there!

  24. 5-2 - Djokovic misses the pass by about an inch to get it back on serve!

  25. 4-2 - Djokovic screams in frustration as Nadal hits a forehand just out of the champion's reach and holds the advantage at the changeover.

  26. 3-1 - Bad miss from Djokovic allows Nadal to gain the mini-break.

  27. 2-1 - We're on serve in the breaker, but some of the rallies have been punishing.

  28. 6-6 - Nadal mishits a forehand and the ball flies into the crowd and we're into a breaker!

  29. - - Poor drop shot from Nadal after another long rally hands Djokovic another break back point!

  30. - - The delight was premature though as Djokovic advances to net and volleys away the winner. Deuce.

  31. - - What a rally! Nadal finally brings up set point by winning an exchange at net and he gives it the full celebration!

  32. - - Nadal turns defence into attack wonderfully well there and that sort of point, which ended with a winner has to be soul destroying for Nadal's opponents. 30-0.

  33. 6-5 - And Nadal breaks!! Djokovic's racquet also breaks as he slams it down hard onto the Rome clay after another forehand finds the net. Poor game from Djokovic at precisely the wrong time from his point of view.

  34. - - A couple of bad errors from Djokovic hand Nadal two break points!

  35. 5-5 - An almost identical forehand miss from Nadal hands Djokovic the break and we're back on serve! Unusual errors from Nadal there!

  36. - - Djokovic's racquet bears the brunt of his frustration as Nadal saves the break point, but Nadal misses with the forehand and it's break point again!

  37. - - Nadal floats a backhand slice long and we're at break point!

  38. - - It's getting tense out there! Errors from each means 30-30 in this vital game!

  39. 5-4 - And an ideal first serve allows Djokovic to hold. The defending champ showed his courage there and Nadal will come out to serve for it next.

  40. - - Djokovic holds Nadal off in a long rally though, as the world number one finds the net.

  41. - - Shocking mishit from Djokovic means set point for Nadal!

  42. - - Too good from Nadal, as another sublime forehand gives him 0-30 on the Djokovic serve.

  43. 5-3 - What a winner from Nadal! He wasn't even balanced there and he still rifled a forehand right onto the line to win the game! Even Djokovic had to applaud that one!

  44. - - A hefty forehand from Djokovic gives him 30-30 on the Nadal serve and a glimmer of break.

  45. - - Just to clarify the rankings question. Djokovic has points to defend here after winning the title last year, while Andy Murray had no points to defend here. It's a fairly complex system, but Murray will be number three if Nadal wins this.

  46. 4-3 - Lovely little half volley dropshot from Djokovic is followed by an immediate double fault, but Nadal makes the error to hand the game to Djokovic.

  47. 4-2 - The crowd audibly groan as Djokovic's attempted drop shot is telegraphed. He can't afford to make mistakes like that today. Nadal gets lucky with a net cord, all of which means another hold.

  48. - - Nadal makes another tiny adjustment to his bottles and is back to serve in game six. That bottle moved by about five millimetres at the most!

  49. 3-2 - Djokovic smiles as Nadal almost makes a super-human get from a fierce Djokovic volley. It would have been time to pack up and go home if he makes that one. Good hold from the Serbian.

  50. 3-1 - Promising start to this game from Djokovic, but Nadal ups his level when it matters and forces the errors from his opponent. The length on the Spaniard's ground strokes is near perfect and it's a comfortable hold.

  51. 2-1 - Nadal hits a stunning pass in the first point, but Djokovic hits back to take the game, as his forehand starts to find it's range.

  52. 2-0 - Brutal from Nadal. Djokovic won just one point in that game and that was from a mistimed drop shot from Nadal!

  53. - - Djokovic looks exhausted already! Perhaps that clash with Federer yesterday has taken a lot out of him. Early signs not great for the defending champ.

  54. 1-0 - We have a break already! A long rally at break point ends with Djokovic hitting wide and it's a perfect start for Nadal.

  55. - - Cracking forehand pass from Nadal brings up break point!

  56. - - Good start from Djokovic but a couple of errors mean we're at deuce in the opening game.

  57. - - We're finally underway after one final adjustment of the water bottle position by Nadal and it's Djokovic to serve.

  58. - - There seems to be some sort of disturbance in the crowd. It looks like someone has been taken ill and there will be a slight delay here.

  59. - - Nadal has finished placing his water bottles and towel in a perfect line and the players are warming up.

  60. - - It's also a bit windy and Nadal has proved in the past how adept he is at handling such conditions.

  61. - - The sun is shining in Rome and the players are on their way onto court now for what has the makings of a classic encounter.

  62. - - Djokovic will be desperate to win this one though in order to defend his Rome title and to stop Andy Murray taking over as world number three.

  63. - - Nadal leads the head-to-head series 12-4 and has won their last three clashes, including the Monte Carlo final last month.

  64. - - Good afternon and welcome to EUROSPORT's LIVE coverage of the Rome Masters Final between world numberone Rafa Nadal and defending Rome champion Novak Djokovic.

  5. blindgooslar good point you make about whether you gain any points when you get a bye into the second round. I shall look that up later because I recall some controversy in the ladies game when some player blamed the system for giving someone else free ranking points......or was that in a different context??

    From sanchez.santos, on Sun 3 May 6:14PM
  6. Rafa should play the finals from now on so no player should be humiliated !!!!

  16. blindgooslar you are very wrong. murray moves to no. 2 tomorrow because novak dropped 300 points for not retaining his rome title, only correction is that i think andy gains 45 points for reaching 2nd round as i think he had 0 last year. the belgrade points come in with the madrd masters. Big congrats to Rafa and Novak for a taking the game to another level. I think Novak will get his revenge when the hardcourt season resumes.
