  1. 7-5 - AND TSONGA WINS - awful game from Safin to end the match. He gets very sloppy and finds himself 0-40 down. He saves the first match point but then goes wide with an attempted forehand winner. He just seemed to lose focus with the match on the line.

  2. 6-5 - Safin wins the opening point but that is it - he will now have to hold and then win a tie-break to stay in this match.

  3. 5-5 - Great passing winner from Safin sees him hold to 15. That was the game he lost in the last set so that should give him confidence.

  4. 5-4 - Booming stuff again from Tsonga - Safin just cannot get his serves into play and the Frenchman holds again to 15. Safin now needs to serve to stay in the match.

  5. 4-4 - Safin saves a break point and then wins two more points in a row in some style to pick up a big hold of serve. He is having to do a little bit more though on his services game.

  6. 4-3 - Quick as you like the Frenchman holds to love to put the pressure straight back on Safin.

  7. 3-3 - Tsonga misses a chance - he was 15-30 in front thanks to two great points in a row - the second of which was won after he finally executed a good drop shot - but Safin serves himself out of trouble again.

  8. 3-2 - Another cry of frustration from Safin. It comes on 15-15 when he has a chance to pounce on a Tsonga second serve only to then mess it up. Tsonga then goes on to win the game with ease. Safin needs to calm down back on his own serve.

  9. 2-2 - Good response again from Safin - he gets some big serves in and clinches a hold to love by drawing Tsonga into the net before finishing him with a lob. Safin looks in charge when he gets his first serve in but that is only happening 40 per cent of the time.

  10. 2-1 - Tsonga seems to have the radar working now - he holds again without any problems to put the pressure back on Safin.

  11. 1-1 - Safin though gets a much needed hold to 15 to keep this match very much alive - you would have worried about him had he lost that one.

  12. 1-0 - Tsonga is starting to find his form. A quick service hold to 15 backs up his set win.

  13. 6-4 - TSONGA BREAKS AND TAKES THE SET. He clips the baseline with a drive to bring up the set point and then polishes off the only set point he needs at the middle of the court after taking control of the point thanks to a sweet return.

  14. 5-4 - Tsonga now needs to save a break point. He undercooked another silly drop shot that went into the net which gave Safin the chance. Again though the big serve gets him out of trouble and he holds.

  15. 4-4 - Safin's misses a few first serves (and has one double) which helps Tsonga earn the first break point of the match. A couple of big serves (including ace number six) gets Safin out of trouble and Tsonga also gave up the game point with a poor drop that allowed Safin to take control of the point.

  16. 4-3 - Tsonga holds to 15 again. Safin went wide on one shot and then long on another and he sorts of shrugs with frustration. You don't like to see such body language for Safin. If he gets in a bit of a huff his game starts to suffer.

  17. 3-3 - Tsonga gets to deuce and aggressively tries to attack the Safin serve. It doesn't quite work out for him though. Safin is serving very well early on and takes the game. The Russian has lost just one point when he has got his first serve in (eight of nine).

  19. 3-2 - Tsonga needs to come back from 15-30 to keep the match on serve. A little bit of serve and volley in the match so far. Neither player playing classic "clay-court" tennis so far.

  20. 2-2 - Safin has dropped just one point on his serve so far and has held again to 15 to level matters up again. Ace number three clinched that game.

  21. 2-1 - Tsonga holds again without too much fuss. Hard to get excited by this match at the moment as their is nobody watching in the stadium It does look lovely though. See it here

  23. 1-1 - Are these boys really playing on clay? Booming serves from Safin in a hold to love including two aces. These guys could be playing at Flushing Meadows such is the quickness of the play.

  24. 1-0 - Confident start from Tsonga who has held to 15 to get things underway.

  25. - - Players are just warming up now - we should be underway very soon.

  26. - - Just last week Marat was told he should put his whole heart into playing tennis or quit by his Dinara and she should know because after all she is now world number one! Read the story
