  1. 17:26 - So Djokovic will face the winner of the next men's quarter-final between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco, which won't take place before 7pm UK time tonight. Stick with us at Eurosport Yahoo! for full LIVE comments once that gets underway.

  2. 4-6 - DJOKOVIC IS THROUGH TO THE SEMI-FINALS as he wraps up a fairly comfortable straight sets win. One hour and 44 minutes on court for the world number four which is a nice work-out but not too heavy

  3. 4-5 - Ljubicic holds to 15 to force Djokovic to serve it out but the Serb is felling really confident now as the point he does win draws his opponent up to the net before lobbing him!

  4. 3-5 - Another backhand drop shot from Djokovic seals the service hold for the Serb and cements the break. It leaves Ljubicic having to serve to stay in the match

  5. 3-4 - And this time DJOKOVIC DOES GET THE BREAK! The Serb comes up with a great sliced backhand drop shot, that bounces twice before Ljubicic can get to it, after another very long, tiring rally

  6. 40-Ad - Again a huge serve out wide to the backhand side gets Ljubicic out of touble. That was almost a carbon copy of the previous break point and Djokovic knows it, slamming his racquet down in disgust. The Serb will have a third chance though as he comes up with a curly cross court forehand that he places on the sideline at an acute angle afte another lengthy rally ...

  7. 40-Ad - A huge serve out wide to the backhand side saves it for Ljubicic but Djokovic gets a second chance when the Croat hits a forehand down the line just wide after a lengthy rally ...

  8. 30-40 - Ljubicic just loses his intensity a little and hits wide to hand Djokovic a break point ...

  9. 3-3 - Djokovic falters slightly on serve as he is forced to recover from 15-30 down. But he does so without any real drama and holds to level up once more

  10. 3-2 - Ljubicic certainly does not have the look of a man who is down a set as he continues to press hard in this second set. As a results he holds to 15 to remain narrowly in the lead

  11. 2-2 - Another service hold apeice from Djokovic and Ljubicic as the second set continues to go with serve

  12. 1-1 - Djokovic has to display all his battling qualities as Ljubicic pushes him to deuce but eventually the Serb does hold when his opponent hits wide and then long

  13. 1-0 - A battling service hold from Ljubicic to open the second set. He eventually does seal the game with a couple of huge forehands after Djokovic has pushed him to deuce

  14. 4-6 - There's the set for Djokovic as he fires down his third ace of the match on his first set point. Solid progress for the world number four

  15. 4-5 - DJOKOVIC BREAKS! Solid work from the world number four, who breaks when Ljubicic hits a forehand long, and he will now serve for the first set

  16. 40-Ad - Djokovic does brilliantly well to recover to rogue bounce on a drop shot despite being a full pelt on his way up to the net and the Serb has another break point ...

  17. 4-4 - Another solid service game from Djokovic levels things up yet again as this set reaches crunch point

  18. 4-3 - No problems for the former finalist holding serve in that game as he holds to love to sneak in front once more

  19. 3-3 - Djokovic races through a service game to sling all the pressure back on to Ljubicic. Still he's very fit is Ivan and he will not tire out on court today. Djokovic will have to beat him, he won't be gifted the win

  20. 3-2 - Ljubicic misses a forehand to hand Djokovic his first break point opportunity of the match ... but an ace from the Croat levels things back up at deuce... Djokovic slices a backhand long, but then Ljubicic misses a backhand into the open court that would have won the game... wide again on game point from Ljubicic... but a couple of errors from the Serb including a backhand wide allow the Croat to hold eventually and he stays in front. Just

  21. 2-2 - More comfortable for Djokovic this time as he holds to 15 to stick with Ljubicic

  22. 2-1 - A rapidly backtracking Ljubicic manages to produce a great forehand winner into the open court to hold to love and keep his nose in front

  23. 1-1 - A much tougher opening service game for Djokovic as he is pushed to deuce by Ljubicic. But a solid first serve followed by a forehand winner from the Serb and he has the hold

  24. 1-0 - So a solid opening service game for Ljubicic to open his account - the Croat holds to 15 when Djokovic hits wide

  25. 0-0 - Ljubicic will get the match underway by serving first ...

  26. 15:37 - So these two have faced each other twice before with the head-to-heads tied at one win apeice. Ljubicic won the first in Zagreb way back in 2006 while Djokovic finally got his revenge at the Monte Carlo Masters last year

  27. 15:32 - Righto tennis fans, here's our second quarter-final from the Madrid Masters between world number four Novak Djokovic and Croat Ivan Ljubicic

  1. So Novak against Nadal.. should be good. These two have had the finest clay court season this year. Nadal is obviously the large favorite, but Novak is the only one that has taken a set from Nadal on clay all season. This is the best chance for an upset, if del Potro or Federer don't come out with something very interesting.

The Murray loss also means that Novak goes back to number three in the world next week. But what about del Potro? For some reason he keeps hanging around, and has remained very consistent even if he has lost to the top four usually bowing out in the quarterfinals, barring the win today. Could he be joining these elite 4? We will see against Federer... If he does indeed beat Federer, then it should be an interesting final.

Otherwise I have a feeling if Nadal wins in the semifinal and faces Federer, then it's the same story all over again.

    I could be wrong though.
