  1. 6-3 - Nadal wraps up a straight-sets victory 7-5 6-4 6-3 and will now face the winner of the match between Teimuraz Gabashvili and Igor Kunitsyn. Men's draw

  2. 5-3 - Well well!! Perhaps Daniel is not quite done for yet. He breaks Nadal in some style to get back to 5-3 and stays alive in the match.

  3. 5-2 - Both players hold serve and Nadal will serve for the match at 5-2 ahead in the third set.

  4. 4-1 - Nadal has another break and is surely headed to victory now. Daniel's challenge has faltered somewhat. He's simply being out-muscled and out-thought by Nadal.

  5. 2-1 - Daniel pulls out a couple of tasty winners to get game back and keep alive his hopes in the third set.

  6. 2-0 - An early break for Nadal and the writing could be on the wall for Daniel now. He's had his chances in this match, but Nadal refuses to give an inch.

  7. 6-4 - There it is. Nadal eases to a hold and goes 2-0 ahead. It's been far from vintage stuff from the Spaniard, but he's doing enough. Match image: Nadal resplendent in salmon pink

  8. 5-4 - Daniel summons a couple of fine winners to hold and Nadal will have to serve it out for a 2-0 lead.

  9. 5-3 - Nadal moves 5-3 ahead and is just one away from a two-set lead.

  10. 4-3 - Nadal holds serve in a flash, then breaks Daniel to love with a ruthless display of hard-hitting. He's really starting to fire now.

  11. 2-3 - Nadal breaks straight back and Daniel's frustration is obvious. He had a real chance to steal the initiative there, but Nadal, as ever the crusher of clay-court dreams, battles back to get to 3-2.

  12. 1-3 - Daniel is really posing some questions to the world number one Nadal. He seals a break when Nadal sends a wild forehand wide of the tramlines and takes a 3-1 lead in the second set.

  13. 1-2 - Daniel has won 71% of points on his first serve, averaging 173kmph. He holds and goes 2-1 ahead.

  14. 1-1 - Nadal races to a hold and levels things up at 1-1.

  15. 0-1 - Great winner from Daniel!! He beats Nadal with a wonderful passing shot to take the first game of the second set. The crowd are really enjoying this.

  16. 7-5 - Daniel can't reach a Nadal forehand and the Spaniard takes the game to go ahead 1-0. Daniel has been very competitive thus far, but Nadal's power told at the business end of the set.

  17. 6-5 - NADAL BREAKS AGAIN!! He really is going after the Daniel serve now and gets his reward. He'll have the chance to serve for the opening set.

  18. 5-5 - Well well!! Daniel breaks straight back and we really do have a match on our hands here. Most unexpected.

  19. 5-4 - Nadal picks the perfect time to strike. He draws Daniel to the net and then plays a wonderful in-to-out forehand winner to seal a key break of serve. He will serve for the set.

  20. 4-4 - A love game for Nadal is sealed when Daniel sends a mistimed forehand looping behind the baseline.

  21. 3-4 - Daniel continues to hold his own in this match, despite lying 96 places below Nadal in the world rankings. He's serving very well indeed.

  22. 3-3 - On we go with serve, as Nadal batters his way to another hold.

  23. 2-3 - Daniel gets a fine serve in wide and Nadal sends his return looping out to give the Brazilian a love hold to go ahead 3-2.

  24. 2-2 - A love hold for Rafa and the Spaniard is beginning to let loose with those swashbuckling groundstrokes now.

  25. 1-2 - Nadal has his first break point of the match, but Daniel battles to save it and takes a 2-1 lead.

  26. 1-1 - Nadal is wearing salmon pink today by the way (pictures to follow). He smites forehand down the line to level the match at 1-1. The early signs are good from Daniel, however, in terms of keeping this one at least reasonably competitive.

  27. 0-1 - Good start from Daniel, who leaps to plant a forehand winner down the line and seal his opening service game to 30. No opening bagel in this one then.

  28. - - As I'm sure you will be aware, Nadal has NEVER lost a match at the French Open. He is hunting down a fifth successive title this year. In his way stands world number 97 Daniel from Brazil. On paper this one can surely only go one way.

  8. I think it just takes Nadal a while to figure out his opponent - I am sure this will turn out well. I don't think Nadal is mentally weak these days at all. I am not watching right now and I'm glad I'm not - I hate it when he doesn't make an early break in a match!!!

  9. I like Rafa very much and wish he make final, and I have a question for his fans who know him better: is it possible that some medias like eurosport who prefer Murray or Federer made big pressure to Rafa writing bed articals about him. I know he is ment. and psih. strong but I fear its maybe possible.
