  4. 5-6 - Bartoli appears incapable of possessing any threat with her serve, which is falling apart at every point she needs it. Garbin attacks her opponent's serve with relish, powering forehands cross court, and now has another opportunity to close out the match.

  5. 5-5 - This second set could barely have more twists and turns, as Bartoli levels at 5-5 with an opportunist break of serve, with Garbin showing nerves when looking to close out the match. The French woman slammed a weak mid-court forehand from Garbin down the line to seal the break.

  6. 4-5 - Garbin grabs what could prove to be a crucial break in this second set, taking a 5-4 lead after Bartoli erred with two loose second serves. The Italian capitalised very efficiently, seizing on every opportunity which was presented by her opponent.

  7. 4-4 - Garbin levels at 4-4, with Bartoli trying desperately to force her way into the game, but the Italian held serve with real conviction. Two testing first serves out to Bartoli's backhand produced easy points for the Italian on the way.

  10. 3-3 - An epic game finally ends with Bartoli hammering a backhand down the line to break Garbin's serve and restore parity at 3-3, with a clenched fist in celebration. Two powerful backhands from Bartoli forced an extended deuce, and finally Garbin folded.

  11. 2-3 - Bartoli did not hold parity for long, with Garbin breaking her serve for a second time in this set. The Italian refused to let her opponent settle, and lashed three powerful forehands out to her backhand side.

  12. 2-2 - Bartoli breaks back! The number 13 seed forces all of four break points before finally hitting back to level at 2-2, with Garbin battling valiantly to preserve her advantage in the second set. Can the French player hold serve now to sustain her momentum?

  13. 1-2 - Garbin breaks in the third game of this second set, and Bartoli is looking very shaken now at the change of ends. The French player commits her third double fault of the match, before Garbin gets a very fortunate net cord on the way to stamping her authority on the second set.

  19. 2-5 - Garbin moves serenely to within a game of taking the opening set, holding her serve to 15, with three first serves pushing Bartoli out to her backhand side. The French player must now hold to force her opponent to serve out for the set.

  21. 2-4 - Garbin's momentum appears to be unabating, as she wins her fourth game in succession. Bartoli looks pretty despondent as she trudges to the other end of the court after the Italian had struck a crisp backhand past her reach to seal a second break in this first set.

  22. 2-3 - Garbin holds to love, and has seized back the initiative from her opponent in the early part of this first set. Bartoli could not get a foothold in any of the rallies, and is left to ponder how she can halt the Italian's momentum.

  23. 2-2 - The Italian races to 40-0 on her opponent's serve, powering her returns out to Bartoli's backhand, and she takes the second of the three break points to restore parity and level at 2-2. Good perseverance from Garbin.

  26. 1-0 - Bartoli gets off to the perfect start, breaking Garbin ruthlessly to take the early advantage, and a 1-0 lead. The Italian strayed short with two loose forehands, and her opponent punished her with clinical finishes.
