  1. 7-6 - AND THIS TIME HE FINALLY MANAGES TO SEAL THE WIN! much to the delight of the crowd as Almagro hits a forehand wide. That was hard work in the end for Verdasco and the two friends embrace at the net with a hug!

  2. TB9-8 - Once again Verdasco fails to take advantage of the chance by hitting into the net but another error from Almagro gives the world number eight another go at the win ...

  3. TB8-7 - But he cannot take advantage of it as Verdasco batters him from the back of the court, and the older Spaniard will get yet another chance to wrap up the match as Almagro hits well long

  4. TB6-7 - Almagro even earns himself a set point of his own ...

  5. TB6-6 - An the second is also saved by Almagro as he fires down a service winner to level things up before the second change of ends

  6. TB6-5 - The first goes begging as Verdasco hits into the net ...

  7. TB6-4 - Verdasco has another three match points as another Almagro forehand goes astray ...

  8. TB5-3 - Verdasco gets the first mini-break of the breaker as Almagro hits a forehand deep of the baseline

  9. TB3-3 - There is nothing to split the two players at the change of ends with all the points having gone with serve so far

  10. 6-6 - ALMAGRO BREAKS BACK after that epic game and we will have a third set tie-break

  11. 40-Ad - Once again the world number eight wastes the chance by hitting into the net and Almagro even sets up a break pointwith a forehand winner

  12. Ad-40 - Oh dear, oh dear. Verdasco hits a forehand into the net to waste yet another chance to wrap up this match. This time a Verdasco has a serve called out but the umpire over-rules and Almagro is docked a point for arguing

  13. Ad-40 - A cross-court Verdasco forehand is called out despite clearly not being and because Almagro was there they will play the match point again ...

  14. Ad-40 - A shocking forehand error from Verdasco squanders the chance yet again although Almagro can't seem to win back-to-back points and Verdasco sets up a fourth chance when his opponent again his long

  15. Ad-40 - Verdasco has a second chance but again Almagro saves it with some ferocious hitting. The older Spaniard quickly has a third chance though ...

  16. 40-40 - But Almagro saves it with a stunning forehand, taking advantage of Verdasco running round his backhand, to put the ball well out of reach of his compatriot

  17. 40-30 - Verdasco earns himself a first match point ...

  18. 6-5 - VERDASCO BREAKS! And that surely is the match for the world number eight. Verdasco breaks on his third attempt when Almagro fails to find the court with yet another forehand

  19. 5-5 - Verdasco posts another very solid service hold to level up once again, sealing the game when Almagro hits into the net

  20. 4-5 - Almagro does well to save three break points before going on to hold with Verdasco hits wide with an attempted forehand down the line. Verdasco will serve to stay in the set

  21. 4-4 - Verdasco levels up once again, the only point lost again serve being his third double of the match

  22. 3-4 - Another pair of very comfortable service holds leave Almagro just in the lead as we rumble towards the busniess end of the third set

  23. 2-3 - This is looking very like the early stage of the second set with both players trading another easy hold apeice

  24. 2-1 - Almagro is also quick to race through another service game as he holds to 15 with a huge serve out wide that Verdasco can only hit long

  25. 1-1 - Verdasco races through another speedy service game. holding to 15 once again

  26. 0-1 - Verdasco whips away a forehand off a short ball and into the open court to earn himself a very early break point opportunity in the third set ... but he cannot take advantage of it, hitting out off the forehand side and Almagro takes advantage to go on and hold

  27. 7-6 - But Verdasco takes the second set at the second attempt when Almagro gets unlucky with the bal bouncing off the top of the net. While the ball does go over, it gives Verdasco plenty of time to see Almagro's run and fire a backhand away behind his compatriot

  28. TB6-4 - The first goes begging as Verdasco puts his backhand across court wide off a short ball

  29. TB6-3 - Verdasco quickly earns himself three set points when Almagro's attempted forehand down the line drops just wide ...

  30. TB4-2 - Verdasco takes a mini-break lead in the breaker at the change of ends as Almagro lets his frustration, at a couple of errors, be heard by all as he unleashes a yell!

  31. 6-6 - It's tie-break time, folks. Almagro produces a much better service game now that the pressure of serving it out is off. He holds to 30 when Verdasco hits into the net and this set will be decided by a breaker

  32. 6-5 - Almagro will have to serve to stay in the set just minutes after serving for it as Verdasco holds to 30 to take the lead once again

  33. 5-5 - Verdasco gets over his temporary lapse in concentration and immediately BREAKS BACK by out-hitting Almagro from the back of the court. We back on level terms once again.

  34. 4-5 - Almagro earns himself a first break point of the match (and what a time to do it) after Verdasco's first double fault ... and ALMAGRO DOES BREAK! Great work from the world number 31 as he produces a ferocious backhand that Verdasco can only return long. Almagro will serve for the second set after the change of ends

  35. 4-4 - This set is rapidly approaching crunch point with both players looking pretty solid on serve, as Almagro holds once again

  36. 4-3 - Verdasco continues to ease through his serve, but he dropped a point and even missed his first first serve of the match in that game. Very wasteful!!

  37. 3-3 - Almagro levels up once again when Verdasco slaps a forehand return of serve well long

  38. 3-2 - Verdasco quickly posts yet another love service game to sling all the pressure back over the net at his younger opponent

  39. 2-2 - Almagro does well to hold for another service game and keep things level in this second set but this is where the wheels came off in the first set remember

  40. 2-1 - Another service game, another service hold for Verdasco. Straight forward really! Or so you would think watching Verdasco today.

  41. 1-1 - Almagro posts his first ace of the day as he holds to get his second set tally off the mark

  42. 1-0 - Another love service game goes the way of Verdasco, who incredibly still has a 100 per cent first serve success rate. Surely that's almost unheard of in tennis. It's not like he's just tapping them in either - he's already got three aces to his name in this match!

  43. 10:52 - While we are concentrating on this match, another world number eight Ana Ivanovic has been displaying some equally impressive form over on the Suzanne Lenglen court blistering through the first set against Czech 32nd seed Iveta Benesova 6-0. Click here to follow that match in full!

  44. 6-2 - Verdasco does wrap up the set at the first attempt when Almagro again hits into the net, again off the forehand side, but this time attempting another drop shot. They're not working well for him today!

  45. 40-30 - Verdasco just hits the ball ridiculously hard! But it workds for him as he earns himself a first set point when Almagro hits a forehand into the net ...

  46. 5-2 - But Verdasco is not to be outdone and quickly posts a love service game of his own slamming away an easy forehand volley to leave himself just one game away from the first set

  47. 4-2 - Better from Almagro as he posts his first love service game of the match when Verdasco sends a forehand return of serve just wide

  48. 4-1 - Verdasco is looking very good so far today. His races through another service game with ease to cement the break and so far has is maintaining an 100 per cent first serve success rate. Pretty impressive stuff, I think you'll agree. Unfortuntaley for him, he is in the same quarter of the draw as that other Spaniard, you may have heard of him, Rafael Nadal. Although Verdasco has come close, most notably in the Australian Open semi-finals, he's never beat Nadal in nine previous attempts

  49. 3-1 - Verdasco gets his first look at a break as Almagro sends a sliced backhand drop shot into the net. It was the right idea from the younger Spaniard as Verdasco was not only a good couple of metres behind the baseline but was also just recovering from a small slip. But unfortunately ideas don't count in tennis and Verdasco has to do little to secure the break as Almagro once again hits wide off the backhand side

  50. 2-1 - Verdasco posts another very solid service hold, again to 15 to keep his nose in front

  51. 1-1 - We have our first lengthy rally of the match and it is the higher ranked Spaniard who comes out on top his opponent hits just long. Almagro really should have been able to do better with that, Verdasco was pushed so far wide at one point that he was practically in the crowd. But Almagro recovers and holds to 30 when Verdasco hits a forehand return of serve into the net post

  52. 1-0 - A very solid opening service hold to 15 from Verdasco, which concludes with an ace

  53. 0-0 - Righto then, we are ready to go and Fernando Verdasco will be the one to get us underway ...

  54. 10:20 - Or if your tastes run more towards Nicolas Almagro you can have a look at his profile as well. You can't say we don't cater for everyone on this website! Just click here for Almagro's profile

  55. 10:18 - Not sure what the delay is with this match starting but Verdasco seemed to be fairly tardy getting to the court. Anyway, while the players continue to warm-up, why don't you keep yourself entertained by checking out Fernando Verdasco's profile here!

  56. 10:15 - The weather in Paris at the moment is pretty good with just a few clouds hanging around. It's a balmy 19 degrees with the temperature during to rise only a few degrees in the next few hours. Perfect tennis weather really!

  57. 09:58 - These two have faced each other twice before with both meetings taking place on clay, perhaps unsurprisingly! Verdasco leads the head-to-heads 2-0 though and has in fact never lost a set to his younger compatriot

  3. some terrible umpiring. Verdasco served and it was called a fault so Almagro didn't hit it. The umpire shecked that the serve was in and gave the point to Verdasco even though Almagro could have hit it. I would have hit the umpire for such a rubbish decision, but Almagro took it like a real pro. C'mon Almagro.
