  1. 18:38 - So a very emphatic win from Davydenko, who reaches his fourth quarter-final at Roland Garros in five years. An impressive record and one he has every chance of improving considering the fact that he will now face Robin Soderling in the last eight

  2. 6-4 - He only needs the one though as he produces yet another stunning winner, this time off the backhand to wrap up the win!

  3. 40-15 - An absolutely ferocious inside out forehand from Davydenko comfortably beats Verdasco for pace and the Russian has TWO MATCH POINTS ...

  4. 5-4 - Sure enough the Russian does get the break, when Verdasco hits wide, and Davydenko will serve for the match after the change of ends

  5. 40-15 - Verdasco sends another backhand wide and Davydenko has another two break points ...

  6. 4-4 - And this time Davydenko does hold to level up when Verdasco goes long with a backhand return of serve

  7. Ad-40 - But again Verdasco goes for the backhand down the line and again he misses it before Davydenko comes up with another very aggressive point for a game point ...

  8. 40-Ad - But Verdasco batters a forehand return of serve straight down the line to bring things back to deuce before a cross court backhand forces the error from Davydenko for another break point ...

  9. Ad-40 - Again the Spaniard's backhand lets him down as he misses a down the line shot and Davydenko is quick to set up a game point with an agressive rally that culminates in a super cross court smash

  10. 30-40 - Another break point chance comes around for Verdaso when Davydenko fails to find the courtr with a forehand ...

  11. 3-4 - A morale boosting easy hold for Verdasco as he holds to 15 when Davydenko dumps a backhand into the net and the Spaniard jogs back to the chair looking high spirits - in this set, at least!

  12. 3-3 - But somehow Verdasco puts a forehand into the net despite setting up the point perfectly by sending Davydenko wide with the cross court forehand. And Davydenko goes on to hold when another forehand error springs off the Verdasco racquet

  13. 40-Ad - A double fault from Davydenko and all of a sudden Verdasco has a break point ...

  14. 2-3 - A few signs of the Fernando Verdasco we saw at the Australian Open as he holds by stepping inside the court for a shorter ball and absolutely spanks an inside out forehand winner. Still the unforced errors are there though as Verdasco lets a 40-0 lead drift to deuce before being able to hold

  15. 2-2 - Davydenko holds for another solid service game. You just don't expect this many winners from the Russian, who is the consummate counter-puncher. Which is not a criticism, by the way, just an observation

  16. 1-2 - Verdasco holds once again with a forehand cross court winner and that is better from the Spaniard although he only held to 30 and still looks to be struggling to find anything to stay in it

  17. 1-1 - Verdasco is furious after he lets a break point slip from his grasp with yet another forehand error and Davydenko goes on to hold and keep things level in this third set

  18. 0-1 - Verdasco holds to 30 for the opening game of the third set much to the delight of the crowd who really want to see a match now after two one-sided women's clashes

  19. 6-2 - This is all too easy for Davydenko at the minute as he wraps up the second set with another winner, this time off the backhand wing

  20. 5-2 - DAVYDENKO BREAKS AGAIN! when Verdasco, at full stretch, hits another forehand into the net. The Spanaird walks back to the chair shaking his head and this is impressive stuff from the Russian, who has hit 16 winners to just four unforced errors. Compared with a 17-16 split for Verdasco

  21. 4-2 - Davydenko is just cruising now as his seemingly unerring accuracy on the groundstroke helps him to another hold when Verdasco fails to find the court with a forehand service return

  22. 3-2 - Verdasco does well to post a battling hold to 30 and he made a few trips into the net in that game, one concluding in a forehand volley winner and the other in a smash. Maybe that's the answer for the Spaniard - clearly Davydenko is on target with his groundstrokes so Verdasco needs to do something to mix it up a bit

  23. 3-1 - Davydenko holds to love to cement the break with a forehand that he lands right on the line. Verdasco just raises his arms as if to say "what can I do?" and that really has been the theme of this match so far

  24. 2-1 - DAVYDENKO BREAKS! There is the first set break for the Russian as he comes up with yet another forehand winner

  25. Ad-40 - Verdasco does come up with a forehand winner to save the point but Davydenko quickly sets up a second chance ...

  26. 40-30 - A lengthy rally ends in another Davydenko break point after the Russian batters a cross court forehand and Verdasco can only hit the resulting backhand just long. Most players probably wouldn't have even got to it to be fair!

  27. 1-1 - Davydenko quickly sends the pressure back over to Verdasco as he posts a love service hold with a trip into the net where he puts away a comfortable forehand winner

  28. 0-1 - Verdasco holds to 30 to open the second set as Davydenko hits a forehand long. The Spaniard had some work done to fairly heavily strapped right foot during the break between sets. He didn't have it retaped so much as had it trimmed a little around the bottom of the foot

  29. 6-1 - Davydenko takes the first set with a one-two combo of a heavy first serve and a forehand winner. A great opening set from the world number 10 but disappointing from Verdasco as he failed to come up with anything much that could challenge

  30. 5-2 - Wow! Davydenko is all over Verdasxo as he races up to the net to whip away a cross court forehand winner to grab a double break and leave himself serving for the set after the change of ends

  31. 4-2 - Davydenko holds to cement the break and Verdasco is all over the place at the moment. Maybe he's thinking about compatriot Nadal. Who knows? But whatever is it, he's needs to pull it together if he is to get back in this match

  32. 3-2 - DAVYDENKO BREAKS! Amongst all the excitment of Nadal losing to Robin Soderling over on the Philippe Chatrier court, Davydenko manages to string enough points together to break Verdasco with a forehand down the line

  33. 2-2 - Davydenko holds to love to keep things even by racing up to a short ball and pushing a forehand winner straight down the line

  34. 1-2 - Verdasco holds again to 30 and baring in mind that the first three games of this match have already taken 15 minutes, we're in for the long-haul here. Even if it is a straight sets match!

  35. 1-1 - Davydenko also posts a solid service hold to get off the mark in this set. The Russian of course is relatively new back on the tour after really battling with an foot injury and it remains to be seen just how match fit he is

  36. 0-1 - A solid opening service game from Verdasco as he holds to 15 when Davydenko hits a forehand long to get off the mark

  37. 0-0 - Righto, the players are ready and it'll be Verdasco to get us underway by serving first ...

  38. 16:29 - These two have faced each other five times before with Davydenko leading the head-to-heads 4-1. But they have only played twice on clay with the head-to-heads being tied at 1-1 and their last clash was way back in 2006. It's not really until the end of last year and the beginning of this year that Verdasco has really made his breakthrough making him a very tough opponent for the Russian to face
