  1. 16:18 - Federer is in floods of tears, or is that the rain?! The crowd gives Federer a standing ovation as he receives the trophy from Andre Agassi. And who can blame them?

  2. 6-4 - Soderling hits a foerhand across court wide and Federer sinks to his knees in tears before remembering where he is and running up to the net to consol his opponent. Nothing if not the consummate sportsman Federer.

  3. 6-4 - THERE IT IS. FEDERER HAS WON THE FRENCH OPEN TITLE, COMPLETED THE CAREER GRAND SLAM AND EQUALLED PETE SAMPRAS'S RECORD OF 14 GRAND SLAM TITLES!

  4. Ad-40 - This time Federer makes very sure he hits into the open court with a nervy forehand volley and it is CHAMPIONSHIP POINT ...

  5. 40-40 - A mis-hit forehand from Soderling allows Federer back to deuce ...

  6. 30-40 - It was all set up for Federer to have a championship point but he slaps a forehand long and Soderling has a break back point ...

  7. 30-30 - But Soderling levels up again when Federer runs round a backhand and hits the forehand just long down the line

  8. 30-15 - Federer gets himself back in front with a forehand winner ...

  9. 15-15 - But Soderling takes the second when Federer hits into the net off the forehand wing

  10. 15-0 - Federer takes the first point when Soderling slaps a second serve return just wide on the angle

  11. 5-4 - Soderling holds to 30 when Federer hits a forehand return of serve into the net

  12. 5-3 - Federer holds after a cross court forehand that lands right on the line get him out of a spot of bother at 30-30 before holding to leave SODERLING SERVING TO STAY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

  13. 4-3 - Soderling does well to hold once again despite Federer taking the opening point with a forehand winner down the line.

  14. 4-2 - Despite being just two games away from what must be one of the biggest wins of Federer's career, in emotional terms at least, the world number two looks ridiculously calm as he fires down an ace to hold once again

  15. 3-2 - A great game from Soderling as he holds to remain at least within touching distance of Federer in this set. The Swede is still looking fairly confident as he celebrates the game with a clenched fist and a nod in the direction of his team. Can he break back though?

  16. 3-1 - Federer is forced to save a break, which he does by running round a backhand and firing a forehand down the line, before he can hold when Soderling hits just long

  17. 2-1 - Better from Soderling as he gets on the scoreboard in this third set. The rain is starting to fall more heavily once again

  18. 2-0 - Federer confidently cements the break with a solid hold and surely this is it now for the world number two. Only a massive breakdown in play now will prevent the world number two from equalling Pete Sampras's record of 14 Grand Slams and from lifting the only Slam to evade him thus far

  19. 1-0 - Federer as good as has one hand on the trophy now as he produces a forehand winner to break in the opening game of the third set

  20. 7-6 - But the world number two only needs the one producing an ace out wide! What a way to take a TWO SETS TO LOVE LEAD!

  21. TB6-1 - Another drop shot from Federer and that brings up five set points ...

  22. TB5-1 - Federer has a very comfortable cushion at the change of ends after he stretches Soderling one way and then the other to lead 5-1

  23. 6-6 - Well played Soderling! as he holds from deuce to force the breaker when Federer slaps a forehand long

  24. 6-5 - Federer holds once again with another couple of aces and at worst the world number two will contest a tie-break in this set

  25. 5-5 - Soderling holds to love to stay in this set and that very siccessfully sums up the difference between the Swede in this set to the last. Federer slaps a forehand return of serve long on game point as the rain eases slightly

  26. 5-4 - Federer holds once again leaving Soderling serving to stay in the set. A nerve-settling backhand winner down the line from Federer brings up the game point before a foray into the net from the world number two ends the game after a forehand volley winner

  27. 4-4 - Soderling is like a different player in this set as he holds his nerve to hold to 30 with a forehand winner (yep, that shot is very much back!)

  28. 4-3 - Federer holds once again to keep himself just in front - following a forehand drop shot with a cross court forehand winner. This is a much tougher set for the world number two though

  29. 3-3 - The rain continues to fall and some umbrellas are going up around the Phillippe Chatrier Court. Soderling holds again and is much more on his toes now, bouncing around the court and even enjoying some success at the net

  30. 3-2 - Federer does well to re-establish his lead despite Soderling clearly looking more and more confident, he pushes Federer to 30 in that game

  31. 2-2 - Did the imposter unsettle Federer? Certainly Soderling enjoys his easiest service game of the match so far, a hold to love

  32. 2-1 - It has started to rain a little and there is an inposter on the court. He looked like he was trying to put a hat on Federer, which suggests he is Catalan, Barcelona-supporting Jimmy Jump, before leaping over the net and heading down to Soderling's side of the net. But tournament officials raced on to the court and tackled him (which by the way wouldn't have been out of place on the rugby field such was the ferocity of the tackle) and carry him off with one official per limb!

  33. 2-1 - A fifth ace from Federer, which lands very close and which Soderling thinks about challenging but ultimately decides not to, sees the world number two keep his nose in front in this game

  34. 1-1 - Better from Soderling as he looks to put the first set behind him. He holds to 15 himself to stick with Federer early in this set

  35. 1-0 - Federer slaps down a double fault to open the second set ... but it's only a temporary blip as he quickly produces his fourth ace on the way to holding to 15

  36. 6-1 - But FEDERER GETS THE SET AT THE SECOND OPPORTUNITY! Admittedly it took the world number two two attempts at the pass with Soderling volleying the forehand passing shot straight back at Federer. But the Swiss quickly changed side and fired a backhand passing shot into the open court to move one step closer to the only Grand Slam title to evade him thus far!

  37. 40-30 - The first goes begging as Soderling comes up with an ace - just his second of the match, and not a bad time to produce it!

  38. 40-15 - Soderling hits another forehand long and it brings up TWO SET POINTS FOR FEDERER ...

  39. 5-1 - Federer holds to love once again to leave himself just one game from the first set after just 19 minutes. What a contrast to this time last year when Federer managed just one game himself in the first set against Rafael Nadal

  40. 4-1 - SODERLING IN ON THE BOARD! An ace followed by a lengthy sliced forehand rally which ends when Federer hits into the net and the Swede at least has a game under his belt in this set

  41. 4-0 - Even Soderling's, usual-trusty, forehand has deserted him as he slaps one long to hand Federer another hold to cement the double break. The Swede really needs to get on the board soon

  42. 3-0 - Soderling does not look happy at all and shoots his coach a pleading look at the end of another break. The Swede seems to have lost all the confidence he has had the past couple of weeks

  43. 2-0 - Federer consolidates his early break with a love service game, confounding Soderling with a sliced forehand drop shot to seal the game

  44. 1-0 - A nervy start from Soderling as he double faults to hand Federer a break in the opening game and no doubt that was exactly what the Swiss was hoping for when he opted to receive first!

  45. 0-0 - One thing is for sure, we should be in for an absolute cracker and it will be Soderling to get the clash underway as Federer one the toss and opted to recieve first

  46. 14:05 - But Soderling is in the form of his life and if he can get off to a good start, he has proven in the last two weeks exactly what he is capable of

  47. 14:03 - Let's be honest, the head-to-heads don't look good for the 23rd seed. He has played Federer a grand total of nine times and has not won any of them. In fact, Soderling has never even taken a set off Federer, although there have been plenty of tie-break sets

  48. 14:02 - That man is Robin Soderling!

  49. 14:01 - That man also battled past Chile's Fernando Gonzalez, having to recover from 1-4 down in the final set of a five set epic

  50. 14:00 - That man has then backed up that win over Nadal with a demolition job of world number 11 Nikolay Davydenko

  51. 13:59 - That man has consigned world number one Rafael Nadal to his first ever defeat at Roland Garros

  52. 13:58 - Just one man stands in Federer's way now

  53. 13:57 - Oh, and there is also the little matter of Roger Federer equalling Pete Sampras' record for highest number of Grand Slam titles at 14. If Federer wins today, he will equal that record.

  54. 13:51 - Only five players have ever managed to win all four of the Grand Slams in their career: Andre Agassi in 1999, Fred Perry in 1935, Don Budge in 1938, Rod Laver (1962 and '69) and Roy Emerson (1964). Although only Andre Agassi has actually managed to win the four Grand Slams when they were on four different surfaces - the Australian Open was contested on grass until 1987

  55. 13:49 - So is Roger Federer, the world number two, the greatest player in the history of tennis? You can decide that for yourselves, and many already have, but if he can win in Paris today and complete his career Grand Slam it will go someway to ending that debate once and for all

  56. 13:45 - Hello and welcome to this intriguing French Open final at Roland Garros

  3. Federer got a lucky break. Nadal's injury would allow him to win Wimbledon, like Nadal's loss in the French all but assured Federer of the title. Let's see him battle Nadal when Nadal has no injury.

  12. Congratulations on Federer's Roland Garros title. He deserves the title for his efforts and capability. Honestly, praising for Soderling's performents at Roland Garros. But he is not a proper Roger's rival. Hope he'll improve more at Wimbledon. Watching Federer's emotion as he's held the Cup I see that's a logical result he waited for a long time to gain. Best wishes for Federer to regain the title at Wimbledon!

  20. Unknowninformer @211- I guess ur title speaks for ur maliciousness. U call Federer a maggot??? Ur a @#$%!! An ugly one at that..!! How dare u maliciously call people names? Cos he was compared to Sampras? He deserves to be compared to greater players - Rod laver, roy emerson, andre agassi.
Sampras took 50 slams to achieve hsi 14 title record and Fed has done it in 40 and also in fewer years.. Federer is still actively playing and will go on to win more.. get ur head from between ur cheeks and if u cant be happy, be quiet.
About his crying - All I will say iis that u are all passionless sould who have never really known what it feels like to wk terribly hard to achieve something and either achieve it or lose it. Its a high or low. U people who deign to mock Feds passion, go do some work.
Oh and comment 202 - He didnt ask the fans to cheer for him. He thanked the crowd for the good cheer. He never once urged the crowd on. Ur most likely spanish wit a name like Xaba. Dont drag a greta player like Nadal into ur doldrums. The crowd got even more behind him after that nincompoop ran onto the court to discourage Feds game. U nay-sayers will stop at nothing. Fed haters!!! U all should get a life..
