- - Through goes Safina. She will have a lot of work to do if she is to win her first grand slam victory here at Wimbledon.
6-3 -
A weak second serve from Dominguez and Safina powers the forehand back past her. That confirms another break of serve and the victory for the Russian.
5-3 -
Dominguez continues to battle in this match, she holds her service.
5-2 -
But when you have so much power why would you move around the court? Safina breaks back immediately with a big forehand down the line.
4-2 -
An interesting time for Safina. Her left knee is causing her problems and she is clearly not comfortable on the court. She tries to dip low to knock the ball over the net and cannot complete the shot properly and gives away the break.
4-1 -
Safina quickly finds herself with three break points. The first was good but was given out by the line judge. Safina challenged and it was a correct decision, the point was replayed and Safina put the ball into the net. Dominguez put the next ball wide though and Safina is a double break up. This match is looking over as a contest.
3-1 - Safina's power is just too much for Dominguez. When the Spaniard gets into the net she does well, but that is happening too much.
2-1 - At 30 all Safina works her way to the net well and then plays completely the wrong shot by hitting it straight to her opponent. Eventually Dominguez holds.
2-0 - Safina is now taking her anger out on the ball girls for not getting the balls back down to her end quick enough. Safina saves a break point and holds out her serve.
1-0 -
"AAAaaaa!!" screams Safina. She is furious with herself that she put an easy forehand long to blow her second break point opportunity. Dominguez gave the third one away though by hitting her back hand into the net chord.
7-5 - SAFINA TAKES THE FIRST SET. The Russian holds to love it double quick time and confirms it with a smash down the line.
6-5 -
Facing a break point, Dominguez puts the first serve into the net. That gives Safina the chance to step forward on the second serve to power the return back at her opponent. It had too much on it and Dominguez could only volley the ball into the net. Safina is now serving for the first set.
5-5 - Safina seals the hold of serve with a backhand into the empty court.
4-5 - The angles and spins Dominguez is putting onto her backhands are causing Safina problems. But the Spaniard is finding it equally tough on Safina's forehands, consistently playing behind the baseline. Dominguez holds, it was hard work, but of course, well worth it.
4-4 - More positives for Dominguez, she punishes Safina for playing the drop shot too long and whips home the ball on a point she had no right to win. That was all Dominguez could do though.
3-4 - Safina is going to be given more of a work out than many people expected. Dominguez, meanwhile, is growing in confidence. Her winning point was brilliant from the Spanish, she pushed her opponent side to side and then came into the net to put away the passing shot.
3-3 -
Safina wildly hooked a player wide to give Dominguez two break point opportunities. The first is saved when Dominguez puts a second serve into the net when she really should have done better. Safina ended up gifting the break with two serves into the net. Back on serve.
3-2 - Dominguez goes to her left at the net to play a cute drop shot to save a break point. She then recovers to serve it out at the second time of asking.
3-1 - Safina peppers Dominguez's backhand with her serve and then slams the ball back the other way.
2-1 -
Dominguez lobs the ball up for Safina three times and the Russian keeps hitting it back to her...she finally puts it away on the fourth occasion and that confirms her break of serve.
1-1 - And so does Safina, she holds to love.
0-1 - Dominguez looks very good in her opening service game.
0-0 -
The Spanish to start things off.
- -
These two have met three times before, with Safina taking all three victories.
- - Welcome to a sun bathed number one court at Wimbledon for this match between the top seed Dinara Safina and Lino Lourdes Dominguez of Spain.

Let's see...geez, it's so hard to follow these comments and know who's doing what. The score bord doesn't change. The game caller repeated refers to player as "she" or "her" and we have no idea who's doing what. PLEASE! Stop with so many pronouns and use their NAMES so we can follow action as it happens!
