  1. -- - Up next on Centre Court we have America's two-times champion Serena Williams up against Neuza Silva of Portugal.

  2. 6-2 - Lu hits a great return to Federer, but the Swiss shoots a forehand winner right back past him, which is followed up by an ace, an unreturnable serve and a forehand that sends him into the second round!

  3. 5-2 - Federer manages to reach another smash at the net from Lu, but his looping return just drops outside the baseline. On the next point, however, he whips Lu's sliced approach shot into the far corner - what a shot. That earns him a break point, which Federer converts with a cracking forehand winner down the line.

  4. 4-2 - It looks like another game of fruitlessly chasing shadows for Lu, but he battles back from 40-0 down to deuce. He can't quite complete the break, and Federer serves out with an ace, as if to say "Don't even try"!

  5. 3-2 - Lu drills an unstoppable forehand past Federer to go 40-0 up. A rare double fault gives Federer a foothold, but the Swiss loops a drop shot wide of the court.

  6. 3-1 - Federer runs Lu ragged around the court before killing the ball stone dead at the net to hold.

  7. 2-1 - Federer hits a forehand long for deuce, and then hooks one wide to give Lu advantage, but the five-times champion does brilliantly at the net to save the game point. Lu then hits a rare unforced error to concede the break.

  8. -- - An outstanding drops shot form Lu crosses the net at an acute angle, giving Federer no chance at all. He then is perhaps a tad unfortunate to see sliced shot called out, but he decides against a challenge.

  9. 1-1 - Federer dominates his first service game of the set, no points lasting more than three shots.

  10. 0-1 - After getting up to 0-30, Federer struggles to reutrn anymore of Lu's first serves, but an unforced error from Lu takes the game to deuce. Federer fires a forehand too long before returning into the net for Lu to hold.

  11. 6-3 - Federer serves out the set in equally emphatic style, however, blasting an ace past his opponent to seal the second set.

  12. 5-3 - Lu does not let that lost sight of a break knock him off his stride, and he serves up four unanswered points to keep himself in the set.

  13. 5-2 - Lu fires a ferocious forehand return right back past Federer, and he's earned himself two break points. Federer saves the first before Lu shanks the ball into the upper tiers for deuce! Lu should have earned advatnage but his one-handed backhand at the net is met by Federer, who passes it back into court for a winner, and he holds from there.

  14. 4-2 - Lu pushes Federer hard now, forcing Federer to whip a forehand into the net. Federer challenges a call on serve, but he was wrong, and then copmpounds his error by blasting into the net for his opponent to hold.

  15. 4-1 - A sublime backhand is the highlight of Federer's latest hold, sealed after Lu slices a return wide.

  16. 3-1 - Lu gets on the board in this set, as Federer overhits a forehand for the man from Taipei to hold to love. Donald Sinden is in the crowd, wearing a bright orange jacket. Do you even know who Donald Sinden is?

  17. - - There has been a result in the match between Brit teenager Laura Robson and Daniela Hantuchova. Find out who won

  18. 3-0 - Another deft drop shot at the net sees Federer hold once more. he's now going through these games so quickly it's difficult to keep up!

  19. 2-0 - The Swiss has come out firing after taking the first set, and he converts the first of three break points to open up a two-game lead in the second.

  20. 1-0 - Federer opens the second set, holding in the minimum of fuss.

  21. 7-5 - A couple of slip ups from Lu, and suddenly it's another break point... and a great return from Federer sees the Chinese Taipei man put shot into the net. Set to Federer...

  22. - - Federer's superb return pushes Lu right back on the first point to get 0-15, but a great wide serve from Lu on the next gives Roger no chance. 15-15...

  23. - - Lu has been doing brilliantly to keep up with the legend, but the pressure is right back on him once more as he serves to push this opening set to a tie-break...

  24. 6-5 - Another very straightforward hold of serve from the Swiss, though he's puffing and blowing on his chair now looking not a little surprised to have been given such a tough workout.

  25. 5-5 - Lovely hold from Lu there, keeping Federer running all over SW19 to close out the game for the loss of a single point.

  26. 5-4 - What a contrast to the previous game: four big serves in, and Federer wraps up that one in little more than 60 seconds. What price now the 14-time Grand Slam champ breaking in the next game to win the set? There will be massive pressure on Lu...

  27. 4-4 - A proper battling effort from Lu there as he saves the game! He's already shown far more toughness in this match than we'd have expected against the five-time winner.

  28. - - Lu pops in a first serve to save the break point - he's saved five of six break points in total now - and we're back to deuce.

  29. - - Lu recovers, but Federer eanrs advantage with a fantastic, dipping backhand that just carves its way down over the net - another break point.

  30. - - Yet another hard-fought game, with long rallies - these lush, green early tournament courts seem a little slower than the ones at Queen's a couple of weeks ago. Lu ends up conceding a break point after a weak shot into the net...

  31. 4-3 - Federer holds serve, but Lu made him work had for every point, calling on the world number two to bring out a string of fantastic shots to take the game, with the highlight a backhand on the run to meet Lu's excellent cross-court. Federer slammed it right into the far corner, just inch perfect and a joy to watch.

  32. 3-3 - You can almost hear the planets realigning themselves once more: Federer completes the break back as Lu nets a backhand, and the normal order of the universe is restored after that brief, shocking interlude.

  33. - - Federer keeps missing his forehand winners and Lu looks in control of this next game, but then the Swiss totally wrongfoots his opponent to get to 30-30 - and flukily earns break point after a net cord sees his ball topple on Lu's side of the net.

  34. 2-3 - Lu hits a lovely winner to get to 15-30 on Fed's serve, then attacks with another forehand to try to earn break points. He overdoes it, but earns break point on the next shot with a great backhand... AND FEDERER NETS TO CONCEDE THE BREAK! Incredible, Federer looked well in control and is now, unthinkably, a break down in this first set to a play from Chinese Taipei.

  35. 2-2 - Lu saves two more break points at deuce, and when he finally earns a game point the Swiss player nets with a straightforward backhand. That's good fighting spirit from Taiwan's finest.

  36. - - Lu plays a blinder to save the first break point, then Federer mishits one off the racquet frame to blow the second. It's a deuce game.

  37. - - Lu starts making a few silly errors - perhaps trying to do too much already - and a forehand wide into the edge of the net gifts two break points...

  38. 2-1 - Four first serves in by Federer only mean one thing: it's another love game served out by the Swiss legend, and he's made a great start. Will Federer cruise to victory this fornight? Will Roland Garros prove to be an inspirational boost or a heartwarming swansong for Federer's career? Impossible to say just now, but everything will be clear in 14 days' time...

  39. 1-1 - Lu bombs a lovely first serve far into the corner of the box to earn game point, then thunders a good baseline winner at the end of a long rally to take the game.

  40. - - Lu slips to 0-30, looking nervous as he does so, but then has picked himself up by winning a first point with a good serve, and adding another after a long, slow rally that makes it feel like the grass is slower than normal this year.

  41. - - Federer, incidentally, warmed up in a pair of long white trousers that can only be described as Fred Perry-esque. I really thought he was going to play the whole match with them on... but he whipped 'em off smartish just before the match began.

  42. 1-0 - Federer simply rips through Lu in that first service game - a mighty impressive start to his campaign, with four unanswered points.

  43. - - So all in all, we should expect little more than a warm-up for the effective top seed today as he looks to lift a third Grand Slam in the space of four tournaments... Find out more about Federer on his profile page.

  44. - - There's a world of difference for Lu between winning a lowly Challenger event - even if he did beat the fast-rising Benjamin Becker to do so - and facing Rog on what he considers an emotional extension to his back garden.

  45. - - Yen-hsun Lu and Roger Federer are walking out on to court now, and Federer is wearing some sort of bizarre Sergeant Pepper-esque jacket with that slightly scary 'RF' logo on it.

  46. - - Surprisingly Taiwanese player Lu has never played Federer, even though as the world number 65 he's been eligible to line up in the same tournaments for some time. What we can say is that Lu has shown some decent form of late, including winning the Challenger event in Israel.

  47. - - Good afternoon everybody - it's the first day of Wimbledon, and the great Roger Federer is a few minutes away from taking to the court for his opening match of the campaign.
