  2. 6-4 - Venus Williams is through after defeating Carla Suarez Navarro 6-0 6-4, and despite the Spaniard responding superbly in the second set, the American had enough mental toughness to capitalise on some uncertainty with the crucial break, and a composed hold to close it out.

  3. 5-4 - Williams forces another two break points, but this time there is no reaction from Suarez Navarro, who you sense has be drained by the previous games. Williams now has the opportunity to serve out for the match, and that is a real anti-climax after such a keenly-contested set. Can she hit back?

  4. 4-4 - Williams races to 30-0 with two good forehands, but plants a poor volley into the net to let her opponent back into the game. The American then goes long with a very sloppy forehand in mid-court, but a clean backhand volley gives her 40-30. Williams then wins the game after deuce to level at 4-4 - every game is a real battle for both players.

  5. 3-4 - Suarez Navarro saves two break points, the second of which she won the point with a flashing pass down the line to force deuce in style. A third opportunity is squandered by Williams who goes wide with a loose forehand, and the Spaniard shows terrific resilience in finally holding.

  6. 3-3 - Another very closely contested game is played out, with both women putting everything in to each rally. Williams comes through from 40-30 with a crunching forehand down the line, and this set is finely poised.

  7. 2-3 - Suarez Navarro holds to get in front in this second set as Venus hits long. The Spaniard came back from dropping the first set to Venus at the Australian Open earlier this year so she knows it can be done and Venus will need to close this out quickly if she doesn't want to risk a repeat of Melbourne

  8. 2-2 - SUAREZ NAVARRO BREAKS BACK! Just when the Spaniard looked down and out, Venus has lost concentration and a cross court forehand out wide from the American has allowed Suarez Navarro to get right back in this set

  9. 2-1 - SUAREZ NAVARRO HOLDS! The Spaniard gets on the scoreboard for the first time in the match with an ace out wide - much to the delight of the crowd

  10. 2-0 - Venus holds to 15 with an ace out wide to cement the early break in this second set. Suarez Navarro is going to have to start thinking about the very real possibility that she may not even get a single game in this match

  11. 1-0 - Williams breaks to open the second set with a forehand cross court passing shot that is comfortably out of reach for the diminutive Spaniard

  12. 6-0 - Wow! Williams serves out the first set with ease. Her serving has been incredible so far this match but alongside that she has won 10 of the 12 points in which she has come up to the net! That's whats won her this set so comfortably

  13. 5-0 - Ouch! Suarez Navarro is still yet to get off the mark in this match as she hits an attempted forehand down the line wide. Venus will serve for the match

  14. 4-0 - Venus eases through another service game to cement the double break and Suarez Navarro is staring at a bagel opening set here

  15. 3-0 - The diminutive Spaniard also has a very heavily strapped knee - her right - and although it is not affecting her movement, she is really struggling to deal with the power of Venus, who breaks for a second time after another epic game

  16. 2-0 - Venus holds to 15 to cement the early break slowly working her way into the net before playing a backhand volley into the open court - she's not all about the power Venus, she does have other strings to her bow

  17. 1-0 - Williams gets off to the perfect start by breaking in the opening game after an epic battle. Venus has the heavy strapping on her right knee once again but she says it is just for support, as a precaution against a little niggle getting any worse

  18. 0-0 - Ok, the players are ready and it will be Suarez Navarro to get the clash underway

  19. 13:32 - These two have faced each other just the once before, at the Australian Open earlier this year, with Suarez Navarro winning the clash in three sets. But this is Venus's domain and she will be tough for the Spaniard to beat today

  8. I am not watching tennis today---iut in the garden,­ weeding n stuff. Came in to see scores on PC and I am­ horrified at this Samm. I am not the greatest fan of­ both Williams for all their grunting and screaming, but­ this is madness. Reckon she/he must be thrown off Yahoo­ for her/his outbursts. This is bullying and racism at­ its worst. I am very surprised those comments have­ passed Yahoo people.
