GAME,SET AND MATCH DEMENTIEVA. The crowd get behind Vesnina and she saves the first of her opponent's set points. She puts the next one long though and Dementieva is through to the next round.
3-5 - The crowd begin a Mexican wave and Vesnina can wave goodbye to her Wimbledon 2009. Dementieva held her serve to love there and her class has shone through today.
3-4 - Good display of character from Vesnina. 0-30 down, a break down and a set down, many other players would have crumbled, but she fought back well and even showed some serve and volley, which is always nice to see.
2-4 - Vesnina was caught all at sea with her forehand there. She hooked the ball wildly wide to cement Dementieva's hold.
2-3 -
Dementieva worked Vesnina into submission and then hustled to the net to put away the winner. She powers the ball into the net though, much to her amusement. She works a break point, which is then saved with an ace from Vesnina. A second one soon comes along courtesy of a double fault and this one is taken when Vesnina clips the ball long. The end is in sight for Dementieva now.
2-2 - When you concede as many double faults as Dementieva does, they are easy to put out of your head. She concedes her fourth of the day, but turns things around and hits the deep lines well.
2-1 - Another hold from Vesnina and she is slowly putting her game together. She made Dementieva work hard in that game, pushing her wide and then taking advantage of the short ball.
1-1 - For a moment there was hope for Vesnina, who is playing with alot more authority. She evened things up at 30-30 but could only put the next ball long and then was aced.
1-0 - An empthatic start to the second set from Vesnina, she holds to love.
1-6 -
She has not got the bagel, but is munching down a breadstick. She serves it out well and takes the first set in 29 minutes.
1-5 - Vesnina did well under pressure there. She faced a set point and she dropped her first serve. Vesnina threw everything into her second though and Dementieva could not return the ball.
0-5 - Vesnina mixes her gam up and plays two good drop shots to get her nose in front at 15-30. She then hit an ugly ball long, she needs to take these half chances. Dementieva holds.
0-4 -
Too many mistakes from Vesnina. She has already given up 7 unforced errors, and in truth gave away all of her first three points, to give Dementieva break points. She is then caught flat footed as Dementieva hits a forehand cross court. Vesnina is now crouching down low, negative body language from her.
0-3 - Dementieva struggles on her first serve as well. She loses a couple of points becuase of this but finds it at the end to cement her break.
0-2 -
First blood to Dementieva. Vesnina drops her first serve which is a bad mistake against Dementieva. She devours the second serve and Vesnina can only put the ball into the net.
