- - Through goes the Belarusian. The 19 year old will face the winner of the Serena Williams, Daniela Hantuchova match....which Serena has just taken!
6-3 -
Petrova leaves the ball mid court and Azarenka explodes onto the forehand winner across court. She cannot take the first of her match points, but takes the next with a deep forehand which Petrova can only dig into the net.
5-3 -
Some great play from Azarenka. She slammed a forehand past her opponent to get her nose in front 0-30. Petrova put the next ball wide to give Azarenka three break points. She could not take the first, but takes the second as Petrova puts her forehand into the net. JUST ONE GAME AWAY FROM VICTORY FOR AZARENKA.
4-3 - Two very poor back-to-back games from Petrova. Finally one of these two hold their serves.
3-3 -
Ok, so we are not going to worry about holding serve any more. Azarenka breaks back to love. Petrova attempted some serve and volley and Azarenka just dinked the ball over her head. That seals her break.
2-3 -
Another break of serve! Azarenka angrily stares at her coach at her poor form in that game. Petrova ran out to three break points and took it on the second occasion.
2-2 -
Petrova looked very tight in that game. Azarenka breaks her to love and played some stunning tennis. She sealed it with a big serve to the back of the court which Petrova can only dig into the net. We are back on serve.
1-2 -
An excellently angled shot from Petrova. She pinned her opponent back well and Azarenka could only clip the ball long. The Russian with the advantage now.
1-1 - A big ace out wide from Petrova and she holds her serve as well. There is a little cloud cover now and the players are turning up the heat.
1-0 - Both players went for a bathroom break and Azarenka seems to have sorted out her temprament. The Belarusian hit a stunning forehand winner up the line to hold her game. That was about the shot of the day.
2-6 -
The crowd are on Petrova's side, and they are delighted as Azarenka hits the ball long and the Russian holds to love.
2-5 -
Azarenka has a mature game, but a terrible attitude. "Why do you guys have so much power to decide the match?" She bellows at the umpire. Petrova takes the break after a very long rally. Azarenka thought there were two calls that should have been given to her and she throws the ball up in the air and swings the racquet back. Luckily for her she does not follow through and strike the line judge with the ball.
2-4 - Again Petrova receives treatment, and again she holds. She sends down an ace and does well on her first serves. Petrova will be determined to make the points as short as possible. Azarenka is having a deep discussion with herself about why she cannot put a forehand in.
2-3 - Azarenka sends down an ace and she holds well, that will please her.
1-3 - Petrova receives more treatment between games and Azarenka is getting frustrated that she cannot put away the Russian who appears to be struggling. Petrova is playing some good tennis and she makes it three games in a row.
1-2 -
Top stuff from Petrova. Ten minutes ago she was struggling. Now she is playing very well indeed. She breaks Azarenka by working her way to the net and then putting away the swinging forehand smash.
1-1 - It looked as though Petrova could be falling apart there. She quickly went 0-30 down, before she played some super tennis and sealed it with some serve and volley.
1-0 - Nadia Petrova received treatment at the change over there. The doctor was taking the Russian's pulse as Petrova complained about heat exhaustion. It is extremely hot out there today. Azarenka holds to start the second set.
6-7 -
Azarenka grabs the first set 7-5 in the breaker in just over an hour when Petrova slaps a forehand into the net
TB2-4 -
Petrova seems to completely lose track of where she is in the court and her forehand goes miles wide - leaving Azarenka with a mini-break advantage at the change of ends
6-6 - Azarenka also posts a service hold to force the tie-break. Their Wimbledon clash last year, remember, was decided by two breakers Petrova winning them 11 and 8
6-5 - Oh my God, a hold of serve! Petrova holds to leave Azarenka serving to stay in the set, just moments after having a set point
5-5 -
Azarenka starts with a double fault and double faults again on set point and again at deuce to hand Petrova a sceond break point. The Russian lands a forehand right on the sideline and it's a fifth straight break of serve!
4-5 -
Petrova slaps a forehand way, way long and Azarenka has her third break of serve. It's a fourth consecutive break though so whether or not she can serve out the set remains to be seen!
4-4 -
Petrova slams her racquet onto the ground after missing a routine backhand but she recovers pretty quickly and breaks back by wrong-footing Azarenka on the baseline with a cross court forehand winner. Then it's Azarenka's turn to throw her racquet on to the ground in disgust! We are back on serve once again.
3-4 -
Just when it looks as though the momentum is swinging in the direction in Petrova, Azarenka breaks for a second time. Petrova hits a forehand wide and slightly long and Azarenka breaks to 15 to regain the advantage
3-3 -
A double fault to open puts Azarenka on the back foot - and it's a back foot the Belarussian cannot recover from conceding the break when Petrova comes up with a forehand winner
2-3 - Petrova comes back from break points down to stay just the one break adrift - she fired down a serve of 118kph on one of those break points. Not a bad time to come up with a first serve of that speed
1-3 - Three games in a row now for the Belarussian as she holds with relative ease to cement the early break. Petrova was actually pretty lucky to get through her third round match against Gisela Dulko after dropping the first set and she will have a real battle on her hands here once again
1-2 -
Azarenka gets the first break of the day. The 19-year-old produces a great forehand passing shot down the line, just catching the outside of the line, on her way to setting up two break points. The first goes begging but the Belarussian gets it at the second attempt with a forehand into the open court after Petrova gets stranded in no man's land!
1-1 - Azarenka also holds to love to get her side of the scoreboard ticking over, racing into the net on the back of a huge first serve and firing away the forehand drive volley into the open court
1-0 - Petrova gets off to the perfect start, holding to love with a service winner straight down the T
0-0 - Righto, the players are ready to get things underway and it will be Petrova to serve first
12:13 -
Crucially their only previous meeting on grass, at Wimbledon last year, went the way of Petrova. The Russian won 7-6(11) 7-6(4). But Azarenka has enjoyed a break through season this year and it will be a very different match from 12 months ago
12:12 -
These two players have faced each other three times before with Petrova leading the head-to-heads 2-1
11:58 - Hello and welcome to this fourth round clash between eighth seed Victoria Azarenka and Russian 10th seed Nadia Petrova

Oh Nadia get rid of the screamer. Please!
Yes Tim the evidence of a short runner was there in that first set. She was hitting the ball like it was a ten minute job, not long before she cries off injured like she actually was in melbourne, no question, but so many idiots thought she had already won the match despite serena being 4-2 up in the second set
come on petrova
Nadiaaaa, go go go!!!)))
@ sanchez.santos : I agree with you about Azarenka's tendency to self-destruct . It is unfortunate because she can really be a major player . I think she may need some psychological help . Let's face it ; she is almost border-line crazy . She said that she really does NOT care one bit about the criticism she gets from the media or tennis fans for her loud grunting !!
on this evidence she looks a one set demolisher. nadia is the perfect opponent to wear her down as her game is not reliant on firing winners like the other girls do with her and her momentum carries her to a second set. i'd like to see if she can actually win in three sets.
this is interesting... breaking themselves? lol
Azarenka is a very dangerous player . She can beat any player if she can only control her temper !!
she is not ugly but just doesn't know how to pace her power game. I'll say she is going out if nadia can stay focussed.
Go Nadia
come on petrova
this is the worst of all spammers, he even uses another sign-in name (or names) to thumb himself up, absolute vermin he is.
I'd say this vika looks a short runner to me, nadia just needs to stay solid and vika will run out of gas sooner or later. I have been pleasantly surprised by nadia's serve and volley game which shames me for thinking she wasn't much good in the early part of the year.
2 nikoloz93: shame on u!!!
Please everybody : thumbs down to the spammer !!
how ugly is azarenka !
