15:44 - World number one Dinara Safina will next face two-times defending champion Venus Williams in the semi-finals on Thursday
6-1 -
Ooh! Lisicki has absolutely nothing left and she forlornly hits wide to hand Safina a place in the semi-finals at the first attempt
Ad-40 - Lisicki hits into the net to hand Safina her first match point ...
5-1 - What should have been a comfortable game for Safina is made less so after consecutive double faults but she holds when Lisicki hits long and the German will have to serve to stay in this match
15:28 -
The injury doesn't appear to be one that will prevent Lisicki from finishing this match - she was receiving massage and ice to the calf during the injury timeout but she is now ready to get back underway
15:22 -
Lisicki has called for the trainer at the change of ends although it is not totally apparent why. It appears to be something to do with her right calf
4-1 -
SAFINA BREAKS AGAIN! Lisicki slaps another forehand long to gift Safina another break point and the world number one wastes little time in taking full advantage of it by battering a backhand return of serve right onto the baseline to break
3-1 - Ouch! Lisicki really has gone very flat since getting that break back as Safina holds to 15, when the German hits a forehand return into the net, to cement the break
2-1 -
Safina breaks again! Lisicki seemingly put all her effort into breaking Safina in the previous game and had nothing left to hold serve herself, slapping a forehand long to gift the world number one the break back
1-1 -
LISICKI BREAKS RIGHT BACK! Safina manages three break points by forcing Lisicki to hit long in an epic game but the German gets lucky on her fourth with the ball literally rolling up and over the net after her forehand hits the tape
1-0 -
Safina breaks for the opening game of the third set! Lisicki attempts a backhand drops shot but Safina gets there in enough time to drop shot back over the net. Lisicki just stood and watched and by the time she reacted it was too late, the German not getting the ball up before the double bounce
6-4 -
BANG! This time Safina takes her chance and levels the match when Lisicki hits another forehand into the net. This match will go to a decider
Ad-40 - Safina challenges an out call on her second serve and it clearly not happy when the ball is shown to be good, but the point will have to be replayed and she promptly goes on to hit long. Safina will have a second chance at thet set though as Lisicki loops a forehand into the net
Ad-40 - A lengthy rally of 20 strokes at 30-30 ends when Safina hits a backhand into the net and now it is Lisicki's turn to scream at herself, albeit in encouragement. Still Safina saves the break point when Lisicki hits wide quickly earns herself a set point with a forehand winner
5-4 - Safina screams at herself in disgust after missing a backhand return of serve that could have brought up another break point. But it does little to help her as a forehand return of serve drops long on the next point and she will have to serve it out
5-3 - Safina holds to 15 to consolidate the break and the backhand is really firing now for the world number one. A cross court backhand winner brings up game point before a similarly vicious backhand down the line seals the hold that leaves Lisicki serving to stay in the set
4-3 -
Hello, hello! Safina has a break. The world number one earns herself a break point when Lisicki sends a backhand so far long of the baseline it almost hits the back netting before hitting the floor. The German saves it, stepping inside the baseline and firing away a forehand winner but a forehand into the net quickly gives Safina a second chance and this time she gets it when Lisicki slaps down a double fault
3-3 - Safina has to work really hard to hold, although another couple of double faults don't help! But the world number one does stick with Lisicki with a hold when the German hits long
2-3 - Lisicki has such a natural rhythm on her serve that is really hard to break - as Wozniacki found out to her cost yesterday. The German cruises through another service game to stay in front
2-2 - Safina really is starting to dominate the baseline rallies now - it's becoming more and more noticeable. And she holds to stay level in this set when Lisicki is once again wrong-footed on the baseline
1-2 - Lisicki holds to love to stay just in front with another heavy service winner. We now know, by the way, that the winner of this clash will face two-times defending champion Venus Williams, who has just eased past Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1 6-2. Have a read of how Venus came through here
1-1 - Safina though also cruises through her opening service game in the second set and she is beginning to dominate the baaseline rallies now with her backhand - wrong-footing Lisicki at the back of the court on game point with a cross court backhand winner
0-1 - The increasingly confident Lisicki races through the opening game of the second set with a comfortable hold
14:10 - Safina slams her racquet into the floor in disgust at earns herself a code violation for racquet abuse for her troubles. That's hardly going to improver her mood now is it?
6-7 -
OUCH! Having done all the hard work on her opponent's serve, Safina slaps down another double fault to gift Lisicki the first set
TB5-6 -
Safina comes up with a change of direction inside out forehand right into the corner to save the first and Lisicki misses a sitter of an inside out cross court forehand into the open court on the second
TB3-6 -
Safina appears to be completely in control of a point with a series of huge forehands across court and deep into the corner. But Lisicki puts up some great defensive shots and Safina eventually slaps a forehand into the net to gift the German three set points
TB2-4 -
Safina wins the first point but Lisicki quickly levels up plucking the ball out of the air to fire a forehand drive volley into the open court. Lisicki then earns the mini-break with a forehand cross court winner but a third double fault from the German undoes some of the good work, leaving Safina trailing 4-2 at the change of ends
6-6 - Lisicki does well to stop the run of games against her and force the first set breaker by holding to 15. It's tie-break time, folks
6-5 - Safina holds when Lisicki hits long and the world number one is in the lead once again. Lisicki is definately still catching Safina out with her flat ground-strokes. But it's happening less and less often and, just minutes after stepping up to serve for the first set, Lisicki will have to serve to stay in it
5-5 -
BOOM! SAFINA BREAKS BACK!! Safina is nothing if not a fighter and she earns herself with a great forehand down the line that comfortably beats Lisicki for pace. The German to be fair didn't really help herself opening with a double fault. Safina's first chance goes begging when her backhand return of serve drops long but she gets it at the second attempt when Lisicki hits a forehand into the net
4-5 - Safina holds to 15 with a very solid service game, or more importantly a game full of solid ground-strokes. The world number one hit one serve that, were this match being played on your local community courts, would actually have landed on the next door court. But Safina shrugged it off with a smile and held to force Lisicki to serve out the set
3-5 - Consecutive aces from Lisicki (Safina challenges the second but is proven wrong) and she is just one game away now from taking the opening set. Safina will have to serve to stay in it
3-4 - Safina slaps down another double fault to open the game but she quickly recovers and goes on to hold when a series of Lisicki ground-strokes go astray
2-4 - Lisicki holds to 15 to maintain her one break lead but Safina fires a vicious backhand across court for her one winner of the game. Angry much?!
2-3 - Much better from Safina as she holds to 15 with a series of first serves. That's what she needs today if she is to come through against a very dangerous player. Safina also gets a little lucky with a couple of net cords - one from Lisicki that doesn't roll over the net and one on her own forehand that just does bounce over
1-3 - Lisicki is forced to save a couple of break points of her own but does so on a Safina error and an ace down the T, before going on to hold when the world number one pushes a forehand down the line just wide
1-2 -
Lisicki breaks first! Safina is yet to find her rhythm on serve and is forced to save a couple of break points after a second double fault. She saves the first when Lisicki hits a forehand wide and the second with a backhand, off the drop shot, right onto the sideline. But Lisicki gets a third chance after a drive volley winner and this time she gets it when Safina slaps down another double fault.
1-1 - Lisicki also holds her opening service game of the match when Safina pushes a sliced backhand approach shot just long
1-0 - Lisicki certainly doesn't look like she'll be overawed by the situation, taking the first two points of the match with a stunning forehand passing shot on the run after Safina double faults. But the world number one recovers quickly and holds by coming up with a ferocious forehand winner down the line
0-0 -
Righto, the players are ready and it will be Dinara Safina to get the match underway by serving first
13:10 -
This is also Lisicki's first match on Centre Court and you never can be too sure how a player will react to that. But Safina is by no means the most comfortable on grass and Lisicki will get her chances today. It just remains to be seen whether she can take advantage of them
13:10 -
But since then Safina has become world number one and really has enjoyed a great run, excluding Grand Slam finals of course
13:08 -
These two have met each other just the once before, in the first round of the Australian Open last year. And Lisicki won that clash 7-6(4) 4-6 6-2
12:55 - Hello and welcome to this quarter-final between world number one Dinara Safina and unseeded German Sabine Lisicki

Venus williams will hammer her off the court.
i can't wait too see it..!
safina will lose
Two Godzilas against each other!A Tatar one and a German one!The biger, the Tatar Godzila won a German one!Ha,ha,ha!
Venus is a powergirl and Dinara a wannabe powergilrl. My sympathies go for Venus, but in the final for Serena (if she makes it against the screamer).
Safina has now to prove her being No.1 against Venus. I HOPE (but not EXPECT) that their semi-final bout
will turn out to be a CLASH OF THE TENNIS TITANS. Good luck, girls!
boring boring boring
dallna, what a funny question, really funny. :-) I have also wondered why for so many years, and Wawrinka normally gets 5 of them...
VENUS WILL PUT HER IN HER RIGHT PLACE CANT WAIT THURSDAY
CONGRATS,DINARA!GOOD LUCK TO YOU AGAINST VENUS.I KNOW U R TOO MUCH UNDERDOG AGAINST HIM BUT I HOPE U GIVE A BIG FIGHT.
I do agree with no 55, worst tennis for this year so far
Why do ballboys always give 3 balls to serving players
Venus will thrush her if she going to play like what she did.
very brutal lesson, sabine lost because she did not take her chances in the second set and dinara came back very strong as expected.
these horrible spammers are SO DESPERATE, go away you vermin! Poor sabine was simply battered into submission and she is now very tired. Still you have the game to win, i did think you will fall short this year, so go and get much stronger and target this championship. you have the game.
This is the worst tennis game ever . So many errors . Disgrace for ladies tennis. With this kind of tennis to be number 1 . This is a joke.
Safina is not playing like someone who is number one, if it was other talented players she would have gone home long long ago.
ALL TENNIS MATCHES ON INTERNET: AUSTRALIAN OPEN, WIMBLEDON, ROLAND GARROS, US OPEN, , DAVIS CUP , FED CUP, ATP INTERNATIONAL SERIES, MASTERS SERIES, ATP CHALLENGER SERIES, ATP FUTURES SERIES AND MUCH MORE
just one more gem dinara.. you are the best :)
Go Safina!
Why do ball boys/girls always give 3 balls to the serving player? They always throw it back..
Sabine's parents are Polish? I think.
