  31. 5-4 - Murray breaks back!! Roddick looks nervy as he attempts to serve out for the third set. The crowd go crazy as he plants a backhand into the net and Murray fires a backhand winner cross court to force three break points. Roddick saves the first with a solid volley, but he goes long with a backhand to prompt a roar of delight from Murray!

  32. 5-3 - A flashing forehand winner from Roddick gives him 30-30 on Murray's serve, and a crushing backhand from the American takes the game into deuce. Roddick goes long with a forehand to give Murray the advantage, and finally the Brit holds to force Roddick to serve out for the third set.

  33. 5-2 - Roddick throws in a double fault to allow Murray a glimmer of hope at 15-15, but he quickly stretches away to 40-15 with two big first serves. Murray responds with two fierce groundstrokes to force the game into deuce, but an ace outwide from the American regains his advantage, and this time he holds to move to within one game of the second set.

  35. 4-2 - Murray shakes off his anger to stroll through his service game, holding serve comfortably and ending with an ace down the T. Roddick does not seem to care, and immediately marches off to prepare for his next game.

  36. 4-1 - Murray protests at the changeover with the umpire after apparently swearing after a mishit forehand, and the frustration is getting to the Brit. Roddick holds serve to consolidate his break, and is just two games from the third set now.

  37. 3-1 - Roddick breaks! The American is relentless in his intensity, and he forces two break points with a thunderous forehand down the line, and an unforced error from Murray. The first is saved with an exquisite forehand lob which lands right on the line and Murray celebrates exuberantly after a backhand takes the game to deuce. A third break point is forced after a poor backhand, but Murray challenges a call successfully for an ace. A fourth finally gives Roddick the break, with Murray hitting long!

  38. 2-1 - As is so often the case, Roddick opens with a booming ace down the T, but Murray takes the game to 30-30 with two well-worked points. The American hammers a smash to regain the advantage, and shows good resilience in closing the game out.

  39. 1-1 - Roddick has an aberration, attempting an audacious drop shot to end a 17-shot rally, with Murray moving to 40-30 as a result. A delightful forehand pass down the line from Murray gives him the hold to level at 1-1.

  40. 1-0 - A fortunate net cord falls for Murray, who moves threateningly to 0-30, and Roddick goes long with a forehand to give the Brit three break points. Murray misses a pass with the first opportunity, and a big smash from Roddick saves the second. A despairing lunge from Murray cannot prevent Roddick taking the game to deuce with a clean volley, before holding to his enormous credit.

  42. 4-6 - Murray wins the second set! A stupendous backhand pass from Murray gives him 30-0 as he seeks the hold to secure the second set, but an ambitious lob drifts wide in the following point. An overhit forehand gives Murray two set points, and a good first serve takes the first opportunity. The match is level at 1-1, and intriguingly poised!

  43. 4-5 - Roddick again gives himself a cushion at the start of his service game, firing two big first deliveries and following them with a crisp volley down the line. A final ace finishes the game, and that is as convincing a hold as you could imagine.

  44. 3-5 - Murray moves briskly to 30-0 after Roddick goes agonisingly close to finding a winner after scampering to reach a drop shot, but sees it drift wide. The Brit outmanoeuvres his opponent to move to 40-15 and, despite a double fault taking the game to deuce, holds his nerve to stay ahead.

  45. 3-4 - Roddick begins with a huge serve to begin the game in style, and the American is unflinching in holding to love and swaggering nonchalantly back to his seat, with Murray leading 4-3.

  49. 1-3 - After that unconvincing first set from Murray, he now looks much more confident and certain about his play, hammering two big serves and extending his lead to 3-1 in this second set. Roddick is struggling to stay with him now.

  11. I see a Yank is crowing about Roddick's victory,­ and what a way to celebrate Independence Day. You­ can't seem to understand why many English people­ are glad Murray lost, no doubt because you refer to all­ of us with that blanket term 'British. It Seems­ you can't see any further back than 1776. If it­ wasn't for your English founding fathers you­ wouldn't have a country. And how many of your­ sports are English inventions, or are based on English­ games? Your football is based on our rugby, Tennis is­ English, etc. And who but Americans play American­ games on an international level? Oh yeah, and who­ invented that language you speak - though you­ haven't learned to speak it properly yet. I'm­ glad Roddick won against Murray. I doubt if he'll­ win the final.

  17. God, some of you people are so vicious on here. It­ wasn't like it was a one sided match. Two of­ Roddicks sets were won on frickin' tie-breaks! It­ was close, but Roddick upped his game that one notch,­ good for him. Anyways, no offense to Federer but I hope­ Roddick kicks his @#$%. He's had it too easy up­ until this point, Roddick needs to give him some grief.­ And I think Murray has the killer instinct "big­ headedness" as its been called. As much as I love­ Henman, I don't think he had that. Murray will­ Wimbledon in the future, there is still time.

  19. With Murray so favored, Roddick has certainly been­ testing his metal. The second set tie breaker must­ have been a real test off nerves and a nail biter. As I­ write this, Roddick just beat Murray. I must have been­ the only person who though he could win. I'm happy­ for Roddick. Hard work has paid off and he can catch­ up in the point standings where all the ranking will­ tighten up. That said, I hope Federer win Wimbledon. ­ I would imagine, he would be favored by quite a bit. A­ win here for Federer would mean the record and­ becoming the first play to regain the #1 ranking after­ losing it for over a year. He would need 49 weeks at­ #1 to tie most weeks at the #1 ranking. With Nadal also­ scratching from the Davis cup
