  2. 2-6 - Serena Williams wins Wimbledon! Serena forces a match point at 30-40, with Venus's serve being torn apart by her sister. She saves it with a good forehand down the line, but Serena matches her to bring a second opportunit. After a long rally, again Serena squanders it, hitting a backhand into the net, and a fourth is driven into the net. However, a fifth Championship point is converted when Venus finds the net, and Serena is the Wimbledon champion for the third time!

  3. 2-5 - Serena races to 40-0 with a powerful first serve outwide to Venus's backhand and she consolidates her break to move to within one game of winning her third Wimbledon title!

  4. 2-4 - Serena breaks to lead 4-2! Venus begins the game looking slightly hesitant, and her sister capitalises with two booming returns to seize control of the second set.

  5. 2-3 - A big first serve from Serena outwide gives her 40-0 and, despite a fine return from Venus which establishes her in the game, the number two seed closes out the game with a sliced ace.

  6. 2-2 - A delightful backhand pass from Serena puts her sister under pressure from the outset, but a huge kick serve from Venus regains parity. Venus continues to keep her cool, and closes out the game at 2-2.

  7. 1-2 - Serena holds once more and walks briskly off to her chair, and she is clearly in a very determined frame of mind after winning the first set in the tie-break. Venus must respond.

  8. 1-1 - Venus levels after moving swiftly to 40-0 and conceding just a single point with Serena going for broke on a forehand. The second set is nicely poised now.

  9. 0-1 - Serena holds her serve comfortably in the opening game of the second set, and the second seed is looking very confident now. Venus must hold firm.

  11. 6-7 - Serena seals the first set, winning the tie break 7-3! Venus approaches the net with haste, attempting to put her sister under pressure, but a sublime lob gives Serena the point to take the advantage!

  12. TB3-6 - Serena seizes the initiative in the tie-break, setting up three set points with a powerful forehand cross court, but a backhand goes wide to force her to serve out for the set.

  13. TB2-5 - Serena extends her lead once more with a powerful forehand down the line, and Venus goes wide with a backhand to give her 5-2.

  14. TB2-3 - Serena takes the first mini-break after Venus plants a tame backhand into the net, but a heavy backhand forces an error as her lead is reduced to 3-2.

  15. TB1-2 - A fiery first serve from Venus gives her the opening point of the breaker, but Serena matches it with two similarly destructive deliveries.

  16. 6-6 - A huge forehand smash from the net by Venus gives her a fast start as she looks to break for the set, but Serena responds with a big first serve. There is no stopping Serena as she closes out the game, and we are into a first set tie-break!

  17. 6-5 - A fine rally is eventually won by Serena, who whips a backhand cross court to take it. Venus plays good percentage tennis to hold firm and move to 30-15, but she is pegged back once more, and the game is taken to deuce. Venus holds with a fierce serve outwide, and again Serena must match her sister.

  18. 5-5 - Serena places a forehand down the line with precision to open the game, but a fortunate net cord allows Venus back into it at 30-15. Serena is undeterred, and holds with a huge forehand to keep the set going with serve.

  19. 5-4 - Venus races to 40-0 with two powerful forehand winners, and the number three seed holds to 15 to re-establish her lead in this first set. The pressure is now on Serena, who is serving to stay in it.

  20. - - And here is a photo of Venus's forehand

  21. - - It is high time that we compared the sisters' respective forehand actions. Here is a photo of Serena's forehand

  22. 4-4 - Venus forces two break points with a fine return which lands on the baseline, with Serena looking slightly hesitant for the first time. The number two seed wins the first with a solid forehand, and the second goes awry for Venus with an overhit backhand. Two aces follow from deuce, and this first set remains locked.

  24. 4-3 - An emphatic forehand winner from Venus cross court gives her 15-15, and she moves in front after a 13-shot rally in which Serena is the first to falter. Venus closes it out with two solid serves, and she holds to lead 4-3 in this tight opening set.

  25. 3-3 - Serena begins with two big serves to move to 30-0 without breaking sweat, and an ace down the T extends her lead. The world number two has dropped just one point on her serve so far, and is looking very relaxed.

  26. 3-2 - A delightful whipped backhand down the line from Venus gives her a commanding start to her game, and she moves quickly to wrap up the service hold to 15.

  27. 2-2 - Venus goes long with a backhand as Serena moves serenely to 40-0 and, despite planting a forehand into the net, the number two seed closes out the game the following point with an ace.

  28. - - As is so often the case in these Wimbledon finals, the cameras are trained on the upper tier of the Centre Court crowd, with celebrities and ex-players out in force. Click here to view a photo of two of those present

  29. 2-1 - Venus holds superbly, and both players are serving exquisitely, finding a nice rhythm and a consistent delivery. The atmosphere is very good around Centre Court, as the crowd await the first mistake.

  30. 1-1 - Serena levels to 15 and looks pretty comfortable in the process. Both sisters appear very focused on their respective serves, and these opening games should set the tone.

  31. 1-0 - Venus holds without too much trouble, holding her composure from 30-15 to close out the opening game and take the initiative in this first set.

  32. 0-0 - Venus wins the toss and elects to serve first on a packed Centre Court, with the sun emerging from the clouds just in time!

  33. - - Venus has looked in imperious form right the way through the tournament, without dropping a single set, while Serena conceded just a solitary set against Elena Dementieva in the semi-final.

  34. - - Of the sisters' four three contests in Wimbledon finals, Serena has won two - in 2002 and 2003 - while Venus took last year's battle to win her second successive title.

  35. - - Astonishingly, the Williams sisters have met each other 20 times on the WTA Tour, with their head-to-head record split equally at 10 victories a piece.

  36. - - Eurosport-Yahoo! blogger Simon Reed believes women's tennis is at a low point thanks to the Williams sisters dominance of the Tour. Click here to read why

  37. - - Despite 128 players starting out in the first round last week, the two Americans are once again left to contest the final for the second successive year and for the eighth time in a Grand Slam final. Click here to read a full preview to the match

  38. - - Venus has won the All England Club tournament on five occasions, and is currently the world number three, having won 41 career singles titles. Click here to view Venus's profile page
