  1. WIN! - Nadal hits long, then there is a nervous wait as the Spaniard calls for a review - Hawkeye says it is out! Davydenko is the champion!

  2. 40-30 - Calmness personified! Davydenko dominates the rally and puts away his winner to bring up championship point!

  3. 30-30 - A tense Davydenko hits a wild forehand well wide - is he cracking?

  4. 15-15 - A nervy putaway from the Russian, whose vicious forehand clips the net on its way over. It falls in, though.

  5. 3-5 - Excellent, aggressive service game from Nadal, who attacks the net and holds with ease. Now it is up to Davydenko...

  6. 2-5 - Shot! Brilliant cross-court backhand winner from Davydenko, who then completes the game with a service winner. He is one game from winning the Shanghai Masters.

  7. 30-15 - Relentless hitting from Davydenko forces Nadal to net again after a succession of defensive shots.

  8. 2-4 - BREAK!! Nadal hooks a defensive backhand shot wide and the Davydenko is two games from victory!

  9. 0-40 - Red alert for Nadal! He loses a challenge by about a nanometre and faces three break points.

  10. 2-3 - Nadal cannot capitalise, and the second set is still going with serve. Very even, but it still looks as though the match is in Davydenko's hands - when he gets it right, Nadal has no answer.

  11. 30-40 - Sloppy game from the Russian - a double fault and an unforced error give the Spaniard a break point.

  12. 2-2 - Game Nadal. This is shaping up to be another marathon set between two evenly-matched players.

  13. 40-30 - Wide! Davydenko does everything right, running Nadal ragged, but then puts his forehand drive volley six inches beyond the left sideline!

  14. 15-30 - Davydenko challenges a Nadal service winner but Hawkeye shows it was well in. However, he wins the next two points to give himself a chance of a break...

  15. 1-2 - A rare quick game, featuring Davydenko's third ace of the match. He holds easily to move 2-1 ahead.

  16. 1-1 - Nadal settles down with a hold to 15. He needed that, and looks weary.

  17. 15-15 - Davydenko picks a half-volley off his toes and it's a brilliant one - Nadal hits into the net and gives a rueful smile.

  18. 0-1 - Perfect start to the second set for the sixth seed, who holds serve to love. He is hoping to stamp his authority on this match.

  19. 6-7 - FIRST SET DAVYDENKO!! He clubs a backhand winner down the line and wins the tie-break 7-3! The top seed is in trouble. The first set was a marathon, lasting almost 80 minutes.

  20. 3-6 - Nadal hits a forehand off the frame and Davydenko has three set points - two on his serve!

  21. 2-4 - Nadal misses the line by a millimetre and loses the challenge - the players change ends at 2-4.

  22. 2-3 - BASH!!! Davydenko is hitting it so deep, Nadal has no answer and the edge is back with the man in white.

  23. 1-2 - Brilliant volley from Nadal! He capitalises on a poor Davydenko volley, showing tremendous reflexes to cancel out the early mini-break.

  24. 0-1 - Superb opening point from the Russian, who slices a backhand smash to seal the first mini-break.

  25. 6-6 - What a turnaround! Davydenko maintains his poise - reflected in a deft backhand drop volley at the net - and then smacks his second ace to take us to a tie break!

  26. 0-30 - Immediately Nadal carves out an opportunity at 0-30 - the second point was an easy pass after Davydenko chose the wrong moment to come to the net.

  27. 6-5 - A routine hold for Nadal, and once again Davydenko must hold serve to stay in the set and force a tie break.

  28. 5-5 - Gutsy hold from the Russian, who keeps faith with his big-hitting style and smites his way to five games all.

  29. 30-40 - Nadal has a chance to complete the turnaround and win the first set.

  30. 15-15 - Davydenko opts not to challenge a questionable line call, and the replay shows his shot clipped the baseline - a missed opportunity for him.

  31. 5-4 - Great rally, and Nadal comes to the net to put away a volley and take a 5-4 lead. The Russian must serve to save the first set!

  32. 30-30 - Missed smash by Davydenko!! That would have given him two break points, but he sends the smash wide!

  33. 4-4 - BREAK BACK! Nadal is on terms and you can never write the great Spaniard off!

  34. ad-40 - A big challenge here! Davydenko queries an 'out' call and gets it reversed! What a big point that is...

  35. 30-40 - Chance for Nadal! Davydenko nets and he faces his first break point of the match.

  36. 15-15 - GREAT drop volley from Davydenko at the net to bring the game back to 15-all after he opens with an unforced error.

  37. 3-4 - Nadal clings on to his serve after saving three break points. It is amazing to see him getting bullied on court like this, though.

  38. 30-40 - So close to a double break! Davydenko gets to 15-40 then hits a passing shot inches wide! He still has another chance, though.

  39. 2-4 - Easy hold for Davydenko, who is looking absolutely dominant.

  40. -30-0 - Nadal is being forced back by his opponent's power, and the Russian whacks a winner for 30-0.

  41. 2-3 - Nadal arrests the run of three straight games for his opponent by holding serve to love.

  42. 1-3 - Another winner from Davydenko! The Russian smacks a forehand deep into the right corner and consolidates his break of serve!

  43. 1-2 - A great drop shot gives Davydenko 0-40. Nadal saves two break points but the Russian converts the third, coming to the net and bashing a winner! First blood Dayvdenko.

  44. -0-30 - Some great shotmaking from Daydenko gives him a real chance at 0-30.

  45. 1-1 - This court has come in for some stick because it has been deemed too slow, and already we are seeing some length rallies. Davydenko's first service game goes to deuce, but Nadal hits a two-handed backhand wide for 1-1.

  46. 1-0 - After that opening stutter, Nadal settles down with some powerful hitting and wins the game by forcing Davydenko to dump the ball into the base of the net.

  47. -0-15 - The first point is a long baseline rally that ends with Nadal hitting a crosscourt forehand out off the frame of his racket.

  48. 0-0 - And we're ready to go! Nadal will serve first. He is wearing a green t-shirt with blue checked shorts and a white headband. Davydenko is in white with navy sleeves.

  49. - - This is Nadal's first final for five months after an injury-hit summer, and the Spaniard may well be more nervous than usual.
