  1. - - Thanks for joining me this evening! Be sure to check out the full report and stats on uk.yahoo.eurosport.com and follow me on Twitter for more sports news and musings - @liamhappe

  2. - - FEDERER 6-4 6-4 - MATCH - After a nine-minute game to finally break Ferrer again, it takes Federer a minute to love-service once more and finish the straight-sets victory.

  3. - - FEDERER 6-4 5-4 - BREAK -Clinical Fed drop shot wins a spirited rally for 30-15, and after pulling a point back Ferrer fails a drop of his own to give the Swiss a break point which he is unable to take. But after surviving his seventh double fault and two further break points from deuce, Ferrer goes out and hits net to allow Roger to serve for the match. Ferrer will have to find his first break point of the match to stay alive.

  4. - - FEDERER 6-4 4-4 - The Spaniard's forehand lets him down as Federer sweeps to another love-service. This set has tie-break written all over it.

  5. - - FEDERER 6-4 3-4 - Ferrer shows great fire responding to Fed's wicked returns and comes out on top of a lengthy rally as he holds to 15.

  6. - - FEDERER 6-4 3-3 - A close look from the umpire is required for 40-15, but nonetheless a straightforward service game once again for Federer.

  7. - - FEDERER 6-4 2-3 - Great variety from Ferrer works the third seed after Federer had returned serve for the opening two points of the game.

  8. - - FEDERER 6-4 2-2 - Federer holds to 15 in the fourth - interesting to note that the stats between the two players are pretty even if you take away Ferrer's six double faults to Fed's none.

  9. - - FEDERER 6-4 1-2 - The Spaniard steps it up himself at 30-30, powering his way to the next two points to hold once more.

  10. - - FEDERER 6-4 1-1 - Federer serves to love once more, cranking up the average service speed in the process.

  11. - - FEDERER 6-4 0-1 - Great first service from Ferrer to begin a set he has to win, enough to shake off a couple of dropped points and hold to 30.

  12. - - FEDERER 6-4 - SET - Federer's serve is again too powerful for Ferrer and this time, it's enough to secure the first set.

  13. - - FEDERER 5-4 - Ferrer remains in the set with a love-service game, but Roger will now serve for the set.

  14. - - FEDERER 5-3 - Federer holds his serve once more, and moves within one of securing the opening set.

  15. - - FEDERER 4-3 - Some of Ferrer's best tennis so far as he holds again, but the break in game three means Roger retains the edge in the first set.

  16. - - FEDERER 4-2 - A volley finish off a crisp forehand and an ace cap a solid hold to 15 for Federer.

  17. - - FEDERER 3-2 - Ferrer pulls back to 30-30 after Fed returns for the first two points of the game, but only a superb rally prevents a double-break. His first advantage is squandered by a double-fault, but the Spaniard eventually holds in the fifth. Could prove important, that.

  18. - - FEDERER 3-1 - Love service from Federer extends his lead in the opening set. Much faster game than the opener, you can imagine.

  19. - - FEDERER 2-1 - BREAK - Early opening for the Swiss ace as Ferrer stutters and double-faults through his second service game, allowing Fed to break to 30.

  20. - - FEDERER 1-1 - Fed is showing early signs of discomfort as Nadal and Djokovic had on the clay surface, but nonetheless overcomes a shaky start to hold to 15 in his first service game.

  21. - - FEDERER 0-1 - Ferrer holds - finally - on the sixth deuce with an inch-perfect wide forehand to win an eight-and-a-half-minute opening game.

  22. - - Ferrer will begin with serve. And we are underway!

  23. - - The reigning champion went out just moments ago: Novak Djokovic was defeated in straight sets by countryman Janko Tipsarevic. With both men skidding across the controversial clay surface, Novak can hardly use that as his sole excuse in what was some terrific stuff from Janko. Full report

  24. - - Good evening and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the final Madrid Masters quarter-final. Roger Federer has seen top seeds drop like flies on the blue clay so far. Will he be the next to go at the hands of David Ferrer? He has defeated the Spaniard in all of their 12 previous meetings.

  1. marshall at least I went to school! I would suggest to you that Rafa had to change his game to suit Roger's fast court game. You are obsessed with Roger i would be worried if I were you, obsession can lead to insanity and looks you are on the verge with your hero worship of Roger. unhealthy dude go see a shrink! As I said before take a chill pill and learn to take criticism of your hero! You are an idiot.

From WV, on Sat 12 May 16:41
  2. Forgot to add Federer grew up on fast courts and his game was adapted for them. Of course he had to change his game when they slowed everything down. I can assure you 100% if they hadn't Nadal would never have won a slam outside of the French open and Djokovic's game would look very different today.

  3. WV thank you for proving my point. You don't understand this sport at all. Federer had to adapt because they slowed all the courts. You can't play the same way on a a slow court as you can on a fast court and vice versa. Also if you check any great Tennis player of the past once they get past their mid 20's they start to go donwhill it has nothing to do with Rafa or Novak. Seriously you don't really understand anything. As for the no competition idea that is a common misunderstanding that shows when someone dominates the era was weak. The same could be said for Rafa on clay. If Roger is no good on clay then who was his competition? He had none right? I suggest you learn to understand this sport before commenting and looking ridiculous. Had to laugh at your comment that Roger dosen't like losing his dominance. Yes because all great sports stars hate being alone at the top don't they? Like I said sue your school.

  4. Come on Roger go go go and win it and Roland Garros, you can do it, :-)

  5. Marshall - you need to take a pill and relax, is nobody allowed to criticise anyone on this forum? I said in my previous post that Roger is the best tennis player around, but I don't have to like him, and I think he is arrogant but so are all the sporting greats. He should win this tournament, but I still say if he is so great on clay why only 1 F.O. and you must remember he held the No 1 ranking when there weren't so many greats around. When Rafa then Novak came along he didn't like it (he even admitted that in an interview) and he was forced to change his game. He will win this tournament and possibly another slam and he has a perfect game, seriously marshall you need a pill, I don't know why people comment on here, it is worse than a football forum, the comments the hatred, why can't you just enjoy the 3 great players around and stop complaining. I came on here to get some decent feedback about a game I love but can't be bothered with the hero worship of certain players from some, chill, relax and enjoy the year of tennis ahead, I certainly wouldn't be bothered to write on here again. So good luck to Roger,Rafa and Novak. The only difference in the top 3 is the arrogance of Roger the world's No 3.Personally I would love for Delpo to win this and love to see him back in the top 4 where he belongs. So marshall I suggest you take a trip to your shrink, but you can start insulting someone else I would rather have a conversation on another forum where they genuinely love and understand the game without ripping the players apart.

  6. It'sin the bag for Fed against Tipsy.....and against Berdych(IF)...,,,,,a little doubt against Delpo but will Delpo beat Berdych?

  7. WV check yourself into a mental institution you are clearly nuts. Federer has been in 5 French open finals and the number of clay masters finals is in double figures. That shows he has been the 2nd best clay courter of the last decade. Yes he isn't the best but he isn't bad on the surface either. You don't win the French open unless you have a good game on clay. Seriously sue your school because their dumbed down curriculum has turned you into simpleton who struggles to understand the world. No offence or anything you understand.

From MarshallTbon III, on Fri 11 May 23:02
  8. If Roger is so wonderful on clay - how comne he has won only 1 French Open and that is simply because Rafa wasn't in the final! Roger is a fence sitter, he is quite a strange person, never gives a true explanation about anything and he is a terribly arrogant guy in my opinion. But it in no way detracts from the fact that he is a wonderful tennis player and I love his game, but as a person I don't like or trust him, and still think there is a lot of jealousy towards Novak and Rafa who are far more humble and nicer human beings. Guess it is having a priveleged childhood and the fact that he is 50% Afrikaans on his mother's side so I guess that explains his attitude and his arrogance.

  9. Fed will probably become number 2 if he wins Madrid. His dream of becoming number one again MAY come true and that will make SAMantha, Teodora, Marshall, etc happy and I hope Fed winning ways will make these three fans to be nice to others especially SaMANtha. They often say bad words to get their points across. You will start hearing from them again at Rome and at the FO and I hope they will be nice when that time comes. Absolutely if Fed wins and if he doesn't you know what they will say. Put it in you heads: It's NICE to be NICE.

  11. Great to see Roger winning agan. Apparently he was slipping and sliding at one stage in the match, but he got on with it. That has always been Roger's way of playing. Trying to play his best even in difficult conditions without complaining. GOOD LUCK ROGER for the rest of the tournament. S

  16. @ MarshallTbon III, I THINK u need to read my comment again. I never said Roger lost to him but that I would like David to go through as he deserves to win something however I knew and said that Roger would win. So please read my comment again and just so you know I am far from crazy.

  17. All ATP members are 1st timers on the blue clay. It was up to the best players to lead the way by making the neccessary adjustments. Unfortunately, some players beat themselves before the tournament even started. There are so many top players who improve all the time which makes it difficult for the top dogs. Federer has shown maturity and class in handling the situation. Thumbs up to Berdych, Del potro and Tipseravic too. Amazing that no spanish player made the semis! 1st time?

  18. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

ATP wants GoaT to be ##### 1 again.. perhaps he would be ## 1, but on H2H .. Fed is second to KING.. it will always be SECOND to KING... ! Fed would have lived to be the Goat or the best in history..but he would always be SECOND to KING.. !!
