RODDICK 4-6 6-4 5-7 - GAME, SET & MATCH - Fantastic from Roger-Vasselin as he serves out to 15, another brilliant peice of touch from the Frenchman as he slices a backhand short down the line for a winning drop shot. Roddick nearly got there but couldn't quite get the ball up before the second bounce and Roger-Vasselin is through to face either David Nalbandian or Ruben Bemelmans in the third round
- -
RODDICK 4-6 6-4 5-6 - BREAK - Ouch! A second double from Roddick could not come at a worse time as it hands Roger-Vasselin three break points. The first goes begging when the Frenchman canes a forehand return long of the baseline. But he does break at the second attempt with a vicious off-forehand across court that Roddick can only return into the net. Roger-Vasselin will serve for the match next ...
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 5-5 - Roger-Vasselin saves a match point with a solid body serve that Roddick can only return long. And the Frenchman goes on to hold with an ace out wide that levels this match up once again
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 5-4 - Roddick holds to 15 when Roger-Vasselin sends a slightly wild forehand return of serve whistling long of the baseline. And the Frenchman will now have to hold to stay in this match. Well, after the change of ends he will
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 4-4 - Roddick stops mid-point to challenge a ball on the baseline from Roger-Vasselin and it is a shockingly poor challenge from the American. The ball is shown to have landed comfortably on the line and Roger-Vasselin goes on to recover from 0-30 down with a backhand winner down the line. And the Frenchman goes on to hold when Roddick pulls a forehand wide
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 4-3 - Another love service hold from Roddick, slings all the pressure back over the net once again at Roger-Vasselin. The way Roddick is serving now, you have to think this next game is incredibly important for the Frenchman as he serves at 4-3 down
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 3-3 - Yes! Would be the simple answer to that question. Yes, Roger-Vasselin can continue withstanding the pressure; the Frenchman posting his own hold to love and reaching the double figures mark on aces in the process
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 3-2 - Roddick has a lot more energy about him now as he holds to love once again, firing his 20th ace right down the centre of the court to take the lead again. Can Roger-Vasselin keep withstanding the pressure against his own serve?
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 2-2 - A crowd-pleasing dive to a backhand from Roger-Vasselin fails to actually help him win the point as Roddick puts his reply into the open court, despite the Frenchman doing well to be up on his feet again. It brings up a break point for Roddick, but R-V saves it with another perfect backhand stop volley that A-Rod cannot reach and the Frenchman eventually holds with an ace
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 2-1 - Roddick is looking much more of a potent force now, confidence growing, as he races through another service hold, sealing it with ace number 18, to sneak out in front once again
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 1-1 - Normal service is resumed from Roger-Vasselin on ... well, on serve. He holds to love to get things back on track with a hold. The Frenchman has only looked like being broken once and that was in that last game of that second set
- - RODDICK 4-6 6-4 1-0 - A very confident opening service hold to this final set from Roddick as he book-ends the game with a pair of aces and throws in a great inside-out forehand winner across court in the middle
- -
RODDICK 4-6 6-4 - SET - Roger-Vasselin opens the game with an ace but consecutive errors from the Frenchman, the third of which is a backhand well wide across court, suddenly hands Roddick two set points. Roger-Vasselin saves the first with an ace down the T but he can do nothing about the second, pulling R-V wide with a backhand approach shot before breaking (and sealing the set) with a backhand volley winner across court
- - RODDICK 4-6 5-4 - Lovely control from Roger-Vasselin on a sliced backhand stop volley before an easy backhand volley into the open court gets him up to 40-30. But Roddick quickly slams the door shut with his 15th ace. The Frenchman will have to serve to stay in this second set after the change of ends
- - RODDICK 4-6 4-4 - Roger-Vasselin appears to be cruising towards a love service hold before a forehand volley is pushed wide into the tramlines, despite the Frenchman having the vast majority of the court to aim for. He quickly recovers to hold though as Roddick completely mis-hits a cross court forehand and instead sends the ball well wide of even the tramlines
- - RODDICK 4-6 4-3 - A brilliant cross court passing shot winner from Roger-Vasselin gets him off the mark before a sliced backhand approach shot into the net from Roddick sees the Frenchman go 0-30 up. Roddick pegs one back with an ace and the second with a scrambling smash winner. But a backhand volley wide from A-Rod gifts R-V a break point. A-Rod saves it with an ace before holding with another ace.
- - RODDICK 4-6 3-3 - Roger-Vasselin has enjoyed considerable success with the body serve so far today and holds once again using that tactic. This next game was crunch point in the first set, can the Frenchman make his move again now? Or will Roddick hold on this time?
- - RODDICK 4-6 3-2 - Roddick holds to love with his 11th ace of the day to sneak out in front once again in this second set
- - RODDICK 4-6 2-2 - A rare unforced error from Roger-Vasselin, a backhand wide down the line, might have given Roddick hope to snatch a break. But back-to-back forehands long from the American followed by a cracking angled stop volley from Roger-Vasselin that Roddick can only return wide up the line sees the Frenchman hold and level up once again
- - RODDICK 4-6 2-1 - The American gets himself out of a huge spot of bother at 0-30 down with an ace and an unreturnable serve. But a double fault (his first of the match) gifts Roger-Vasselin a break point ... Roddick saves it with a serve down the T that Roger-Vasselin can only return into the net before going on to hold when the Frenchman sends consecutive forehands long
- - RODDICK 4-6 1-1 - Roddick has his best chance yet to break the Roger-Vasselin serve as he leads first 15-30 and then also gets to deuce. But the Frenchman holds firm and wraps up the game with a great body serve and cross court forehand winner
- - RODDICK 4-6 1-0 - Ace number eight from Roddick brings up two game points to open the second set with a hold. And ace number nine seals it. He really hasn't served badly so far today and yet he was broken in that first set
- -
RODDICK 4-6 - SET - No sign of nerves from Roger-Vasselin as he serves out the set with consummate ease. These two have faced each other only the once before, on a hard-court in Winston-Salem (North Carolina) last year. But Roddick eased through that match for the loss of just six games in straight sets
- - RODDICK 4-5 - Credit to the American as he hold to love in emphatic style to force Roger-Vasselin to at least serve out the set, which he will attempt to do after the change of ends
- - RODDICK 3-5 - Another baseline exchange goes the way of Roger-Vasselin as Roddick slices a backhand into the bottom of the net to help the Frenchman consolidate the break with a hold to 15. Roddick will have to serve to stay in this opening set next
- -
RODDICK 3-4 - BREAK - A couple of great volleys from Roger-Vasselin, culminating in a forehand winner across into the open court, brings up two break points for the Frenchman. Only the one is needed though as he drills a backhand winner across court to grab the first break. Roddick floundering on the baseline in that last point.
- - RODDICK 3-3 - Wow! Another blink-and-you'll-miss-it service hold from Roger-Vasselin. There are only 14 minutes on the clock and already six speedy games have passed in this clash. Neither man hanging around today
- - RODDICK 3-2 - Better again from Roddick this time around as he holds without any trouble whatsoever, Roger-Vasselin's only real chance at getting into the game going begging when his attempted forehand passing shot sailed long of the baseline
- - RODDICK 2-2 - Another quick and easy hold from the Frenchman. He really has made a positive start to this clash and why not when you think about the kind of form, or more to the point lack thereof, that Roddick is carrying in to this grass court season
- - RODDICK 2-1 - A tougher hold for the American this time around as Roger-Vasselin does a much better job at reading the serve and grabs a couple of points as a result - one when he races up to a drop shot and fires a backhand winner down the line and a second when Roddick hits into the net
- - RODDICK 1-1 - "Anything you can do ..." Roger-Vasselin also races through a confident opening service hold, albeit for the loss of one point, finding an ace of his own before going on to hold with a forehand winner
- - RODDICK 1-0 - Bam! Roddick opens with a very emphatic service hold, firing down three aces and an unreturnable as he quickly extinguishes any hopes Roger-Vasselin might've had of getting an early break
- - Roger-Vasselin has won the toss and opted to receive first. The players are just going through their warm-up now so settle in ... we're about to get underway.
