Roddick nearly got there but couldn't quite get the ball up before the second bounce and Roger-Vasselin is through to face either David Nalbandian or Ruben Bemelmans in the third round

The first goes begging when the Frenchman canes a forehand return long of the baseline. But Roddick quickly slams the door shut with his 15th ace. The Frenchman will have to serve to stay in this second set after the change of ends

  15. - - RODDICK 4-6 4-4 - Roger-Vasselin appears to be cruising towards a love service hold before a forehand volley is pushed wide into the tramlines, despite the Frenchman having the vast majority of the court to aim for. He quickly recovers to hold though as Roddick completely mis-hits a cross court forehand and instead sends the ball well wide of even the tramlines

  16. - - RODDICK 4-6 4-3 - A brilliant cross court passing shot winner from Roger-Vasselin gets him off the mark before a sliced backhand approach shot into the net from Roddick sees the Frenchman go 0-30 up. Roddick pegs one back with an ace and the second with a scrambling smash winner. But a backhand volley wide from A-Rod gifts R-V a break point. A-Rod saves it with an ace before holding with another ace.

  17. - - RODDICK 4-6 3-3 - Roger-Vasselin has enjoyed considerable success with the body serve so far today and holds once again using that tactic. This next game was crunch point in the first set, can the Frenchman make his move again now? Or will Roddick hold on this time?

But a double fault (his first of the match) gifts Roger-Vasselin a break point ... These two have faced each other only the once before, on a hard-court in Winston-Salem (North Carolina) last year.   30. - - RODDICK 2-1 - A tougher hold for the American this time around as Roger-Vasselin does a much better job at reading the serve and grabs a couple of points as a result - one when he races up to a drop shot and fires a backhand winner down the line and a second when Roddick hits into the net

  31. - - RODDICK 1-1 - "Anything you can do ..." Roger-Vasselin also races through a confident opening service hold, albeit for the loss of one point, finding an ace of his own before going on to hold with a forehand winner
