  14. - - KERBER 6-3 6-5 - In a relatively tame game by their current standards, Kerber holds and will again have the chance to advance to the semi-finals if she can break serve.

  15. - - KERBER 6-3 5-5 - Lisicki produces arguably her best points of the match to save two match points and eventually hold from deuce. Thrilling stuff as the second set heads to its conclusion, and it likely will take a tie-break to separate them.

  16. - - KERBER 6-3 5-4 - Lisicki challenges successfully to defy one hold point but opts not to challenge the next as Kerber keeps her serve and now the Russian must do the same to remain in the tournament.

  18. - - KERBER 6-3 4-3 - It appeared Lisicki's momentum would continue and put her in front of a set for the first time, but Kerber clung on and eventually holds from deuce five. Important game for Angelique, that.

  19. - - KERBER 6-3 3-3 - A love-service game brings Lisicki level. Three games in a row for each lady now, but it's Sharapova's conqueror who has momentum on her side now.

  21. - - KERBER 6-3 3-1 - Lisicki holds to 30 to stop the rot, but she'll need an even better fight-back than she offered in the previous set to stay alive here.

  22. - - KERBER 6-3 3-0 - BREAK! - Much as she had in the first, Kerber is dominating early in the second set and breaks her compatriot's serve before holding again for a three-game cushion.

  23. - - KERBER 6-3 1-0 - The start of set two is delayed slightly as Lisicki receives treatment on a blister on her thumb, but it doesn't affect her game too much. Kerber remains strong in serve after that mid-set wobble, however, and holds to 30.

  24. - - KERBER 6-3 - SET! - And to prove once and for all that regular service in the first set had resumed, Kerber breaks Liscki to go one-up.

  25. - - KERBER 5-3 - Kerber manages to get back on song with ball in hand and love-service puts her on the verge of the first set despite the recent blip.

  26. - - KERBER 4-3 - The opening set is well and truly back on: Lislicki powers up the forehand from 30-30 after a nervy start to the seventh game for both Germans.

  27. - - KERBER 4-2 - BREAK! - Lisicki had to break back, and she did: the first real signs of weakness in Kerber's service were fully explited and though a slick backhand winner saves the first of a double break-point, Liscki wins out on the second.

  28. - - KERBER 4-1 - BREAK! - And from a back-and-forth game after four points, Kerber finds openings once again to earn and convert another break point.

  29. - - KERBER 3-1 - The world number eight's form with ball in hand shows no sign of relenting, however, as another hold to love brings the lead back to two games.

  30. - - KERBER 2-1 - Lisicki salvages a very early double-break to force deuce from second serve, but the improvement halts after good power for first advantage and two outs lead to a second break. She is able to rescue again for deuce three, and finally forces Kerber out via a desperate lob effort to claim her first game of the contest from deuce six.

  31. - - KERBER 2-0 - And with a quick and efficient hold in her first service game, Kerber lays down an early marker in the opening set.

  32. - - KERBER 1-0 - BREAK! - Nightmare start for Lisicki as Kerber has an answer for almost everything she serves up, breaking to 30 from the off.

  3. ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!! Ohhhhhhh Sabine!.....You had that­ match on your racket! A 2nd Wimbledon Semi-Final should­ have been yours......Oh well, I guess after your world­ beating 4th round performance against Maria: beating­ your arch nemesis Kerber (also for the 1st time ever!)­ may well have been too much too soon for you? Lisicki­ was horrendous in that 1st set, and looked as though­ she had been partying too much after beating Maria? ­ Once she woke up, and realized she was competing for a­ place in another Wimbledon Semi-Final: she then started­ performing accordingly, but in the end maybe didn't­ quite have either enough left in the tank, or enough­ belief in her own ability to finally put Kerber away? ­ Congratulations - credit to Angelique for not totally­ capitulating; overcoming that demon, and thus finally­ getting the job done! Both Lisicki & Kerber are a­ reminder of just how dominant Germany is becoming once­ again in the women's game: especially when you also­ take into consideration the fact that Germany currently­ has 5 women players ranked in the world's top 40! ­ Kerber - much more than Lisicki recently - is on the­ rise big time, and could end the year in the top 5: if­ she continues on her present run of form? She has­ thighs like tree-trunks, and a bulldozer-like build­ all-round.......The reference to her being "The­ White Serena seems spot on; only unlike Serena she (at­ least what I've seen of her here at Wimbledon!)­ seems to play much more defensively, and not go for her­ shots with high intensity like either Serena, or­ Lisicki.   4. @Zvi - it is pretty clear to all of us by now, based on­ your over-the-top postings, that you are a Kerber fan. ­ Probably too much so, actually, since some of the­ statements you make are unreasonable. I agree that her­ rise over the past season has been excellent. But­ there is no way you can say that she plays the same­ game as Serena Williams, for example. Kerber is a­ defensive-minded player, who wants always to get the­ ball back to her opponent and wear them down. Williams­ is one of the most aggressive, offensive-minded players­ in tennis. And for a player to be a legend, she has to­ set records, win Grand Slam tournaments, etc. Kerber­ has done none of this yet. I could go on and on, but I­ won't waste my breath.

  7. someone who goes from rank 105 to 7 in just one year is­ already a legend to me. people may not like Kerber.­ They dont see what I see in her as a sports player. she­ is special in spirit and level of play. I love kerber­ (as a player).

She is nice and maybe not such a fighter.­ she prefers to enjoy the ride... thats another way to­ win but her character will not change. she will always­ be the same for good and bad.

  11. exactly fb........Kerber needs to start hitting more­ winners. This match was more about lisickis high­ unforced error count than anything. Lisicki must have­ hit 3 or 4 times more winning shots and similar amount­ more aces. tells its own story.

  12. certainly a game that kept my interest all the way but­ neither is really a legend in the making...I enjoyed­ the game but I would be very surprised if Kerber makes­ the final and my cardiologist would have to work this­ weekend if she wins...I like the way Lisicki play and­ would like to see her be more consistent and focus more­ poitively...but Ana Ivanovic is my idea of the most­ beautiful woman player so I was sad to see her go..

  14. Nathaniel, sorry but Serena is not so fit and it will­ show against Kerber. Kerebr plays the same style and­ has good enough service. She is still not strong enough­ mentally as Serena but she is vvery fast and that will­ give serena a lot of problems. You will see. And who­ said that serena will beta Vika?!.... Vika can beta­ her. Serena is not what she used to be. Anyway, thats­ very interesting and a good sports level. And the­ Polish girl can be NO.1 on Monday too! women tennis­ looks great and 10 times better than mens tennis.

  15. Great match. Lisicki fought back brilliantly, had the­ match in her hands, but the Kerber showed that exact­ same spirit of never say die. Proud of both of them.­ Kerber just needs to play a bit more on the offensive­ for the title and channel her frustration instead of­ holding it within her. It almost cost her the match­ this time. If Lisicki had kept her errors at a minimum­ Kerber would not have won this one. Now good luck all­ the way to the cup to Kerber.
