FEDERER 6-1 6-3 6-2 MATCH! Fognini runs into a line judge to much mirth. He almost has Federer caught adrift but fluffs his backhand to net; now double match point to Federer. Fognini thinks he's aced him but it was wide, a failed challenge. He then goes long with a forehand from deep and Federer is through. He faces Julien Benneteau or Michael Russell next. Easy. Men's draw
- -
FEDERER 6-1 6-3 4-2 BREAK! Lovely sweeping backhand from Federer that completely catches Fognini out and that is the break that should see Fed win this in straight sets.
- - FEDERER 6-1 6-3 3-2 Back to the Maestro, Fed tosses up a love hold to keep the third set with serve. Prince Charles is knocking about today, I hear, although am yet to see old big ears.
- - FEDERER 6-1 6-3 2-1 The third and probably final set goes with serve as Fed hits an ace to follow a wonderful rally he won with an overhead smash. Fognini appears to have picked up a knock.
- -
FEDERER 6-1 6-3 SET Fognini wins an epic point that leaves Fed sprawling after leaping into a diving half-volley. 30-15 to the Italian. But that seems to ignite Federer into some of his best form as he breaks to take the set.
- - FEDERER 6-1 5-3 At 40-0 down on the Federer serve Fognini tricks the Swiss with a superb double-handed pass that gets the crowd going. Fed holds though as the Italian nets weakly with his forehand.
- - FEDERER 6-1 3-2 The crowd want Fognini to make a fist of this as the longer Fed stays on court, the longer we will be entertained. He holds to rapturous applause.
- -
FEDERER 6-1 1-3 BREAK Maybe Fognini thought he had a sniff, maybe he didn't. Either way Federer has broken at the second time of asking and he takes charge of the second set and the match. Nice easy hold to follow too.
- - FEDERER 6-1 1-1 Federer had already picked out his angled forehand drive before releasing his serve, on the move to meet Fognini's return before it had even left his racquet. An ace is thrown in for good measure as the Swiss holds to 15.
- - FEDERER 6-1 0-1 Fognini draws applause with a solid hold of serve to at least get this second set off to a competitive start.
- -
FEDERER 6-1 SET Fed is such a good server but he drops a couple of points here, including an uncharacteristic error. But, on second serve, he generates enough power to force Fognini long, set point and taken as the Swiss has the whole court to aim at with his approach shot, the Italian stranded.
- -
FEDERER 5-1 BREAK After a quick hold Federer breaks to 15 as he guides one down the line and beyond Fognini. Fed serving for the opening set.
- - FEDERER 3-1 Blink and you miss Federer holding, Fognini starts his second service game well enough though, but Fed brings it back to 15-30 with a fabulous disguised lob after he had been caught off balance by the Italian. But, from 30-30, a wonderful stretching half-volley from the Italian gives him game point! He was well beaten there. Good hold for Fognini.
- -
FEDERER 2-0 BREAK! Break point for Federer who, having gone 30-0 down, fights back with some majestic shot-making, including a fine volley at the net to bring that point up. However, he overhits a backhand from the line and it's deuce. He has a second break point now, one that he takes as Fognini attempts an ambitious winning forehand that lands long.
- - FEDERER 1-0 Federer holds with imperious ease, he always looks so comfortable in SW19. Fognini is no slouch though, world number 68 he may be but he has some fine ground-strokes and a Federer-esque headband.
- -
FEDERER 0-0 The master, Roger Federer, takes his place on HIS Centre Court where he will face unfancied Italian Fabio Fognini. They have only played once before, in Montreal five years ago. Federer won, obviously, 6-1 6-1.

Hi all did you miss me, sorry dont mean to rain on the parade here but please fed has played nobodies in this tournament so far, if nadal doesnt make it so what he has just won a major title on clay for his seventh time, to be honest he carrying a bag of bothered around with him right now. As to sam and eddie please, really fed hasnt been tested yet and am sorry but he has a tough run in yet to come his age and his concentration let him down and have done in the past. If by some messure of luck he manages to reach the semi where he will most certainly play the defending champion there, then he will crush fed like he did at roland garros or us open 2011 2010 oh and of course aussie open 2011. However if by some sheer fluke that djokoivc drops down dead or is eaten by a bear then nadal will destroy fed like he did at the aussie open beating fed in four sets. No fuss no muss fed is an over the hill hasbeen and at 31 he has started to face upto the fact that his game is going out of fashion with speed and the new breed are here to conitinue there dominance in nadal djokovic and murray so we shall see but feds time is runnning out look to his defeat to tommy haas at halle is enough said vamos rafa and vamos djokovic
EDDIE::: ur comments are preety much on the money.....i am hoping too that rafa makes it to the finals...and ofcourse fed needs to make there too...both will have to win the semis...now lets say fed does not make it....well he then does not deserve to play nadal if nadal makes it......and the other way around if nadal does not make it then he does not deserve to play fed in the finals....either way....whoever wins it would deserve it....there were many events like in 2008 2009 2007 fed was waiting for rafa at the us open finals....and rafa never got there...and fed lost to rafa at the french cause he made it there....same thing at the aus open 2007 2008 2010....fed was waiting and rafa never got there....now here is an opportunity lets see fed needs to beat the number one player in the world...lets see if they keep it up...i am hoping for a fed nadal final....and let them play it out...we will see who the winner is! although not being bias...but i really dont think rafa will make it...although i am cheering for him to make it as i want to see a fed-rafa finals! anyways have a nice day!
Easy matches for Roger? It is because he is that good on grass and this is his territory, the King of Wimbledon! Can anybody stop him in winning his 17th GS? Djoko, NO, Rafa, MAY BE, if he can get to the final. The sweetest thing that Fed wants is to beat his nemesis, the King of Clay. This is the tourney where he has a very good chance to make that happen. Vamos Roger!
The king of kings and the king of grass hard courts and indoors roger federer will take wimbeldon! Stop him if u can Novak and nadal! And rafa ofcourse te king of clay!
Why are players forced to bow to "royalty?" I don't recognize royalty and neither should anyone. I have nothing against Charles and if his "subjects" elect to give him money, that is their choice. But he is not a royal anything. He is just another man. If I were playing, I would not bow.
Rafa nadal will get his wish of playing roger at the us open semifinals as fed number 1 Novak #2 and nadal # 3,
Bring on Novak! King roger is ready and waiting! Oh bring on rafa too! Remember I said it before absolutely no excuses whoever wins wimbeldon deserves it! Fed #1 and the 17 th slam on next Sunday!
Yet another match without history.Good job Fed.
Nice to watch. No grunting and good speed of play. No stalling, excessive toweling, walking around, bouncing the ball, looking at their boxes, etc. Reminds me of the good old days before the excessive gamesmanship.
Commentator: There is absolutely no reason to make personal remarks about Prince Charles!
I agree. Fogini had a great French Open, but I'm afraid this is as far as it will go for him.
Fogini doesnt enjoy grass as much so will b very easy match for Fed and its looking like it. 25mins in and hes serving to take the set 5-1..
Fognini is very good player and I adore him, it won't be an easy match, but I think that Federer will win!
I don´t think it will be as easy as his first-round match.
This will be an easy match for Fed.
Roger federer is back on center court where he belongs should focus on ur volleys once u r up two sets and practice some more serve and volley! Awesome fed just keeps on keeping on!
