FERRER 6-3 6-2 6-3 - MATCH! And it's over. A challenge from Del Potro on match break point is 100% hope, zero expectation and he knows it. The replay confirms that Ferrer is through in three sets against the disappointing Del Potro. Murray awaits: the two are 5-5 head to head.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 5-3 - A hold to love and Ferrer will serve for the match if he doesn't secure it with a double-break coming up next.
- -
FERRER 6-3 6-2 4-3 - BREAK! - Uh-oh. Del Potro is absolutely behind the pace in game seven and even though he gets the better of a rally to save the first of a triple break point, he overcooks a forehand out of bounds by a safe distance and could be heading out of Wimbledon very shortly.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 6-6 - Ferrer holds to love in the most dynamic performance of the set so far.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 2-3 - Del Potro gets the upper hand of the rallies to claim his third hold. We're now getting to the stage where the Argentine cannot afford to drop anything.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 2-2 - The steady start to the third set remains as Ferrer keeps up with service again.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 1-2 - Del Potro holds against in another lengthy battle between the two, taking it from deuce.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 1-1 - Ferrer keeps his own serve ticking over, and it has been confirmed that the winner of this will meet Andy Murray in the last eight.
- - FERRER 6-3 6-2 0-1 - Del Potro holds to love to open up the third set.
- -
FERRER 6-3 6-2 - SET! - A wild forehand from Del Potro after a captivating rally goes well out and hands Ferrer a triple set point. The Spaniard smashes through the first and completes a great flourish as the Argentine just fell apart and now has a mountain to climb.
- -
FERRER 6-3 5-2 - BREAK! - Del Potro is falling apart in the second set, and Ferrer clinches a double-break to serve for a two-set stranglehold.
- - FERRER 6-3 4-2 - Ferrer's tail is up now and he lobs a rally superbly to cap a hold to love.
- -
FERRER 6-3 3-2 - BREAK! - Del Potro's errors start to creep up in a marathon 10-minute game, allowing Ferrer to claim his third break point from deuce six for the first breakthrough of the set. The Spaniard's workrate was just too much for the complacent Argentine there.
- - FERRER 6-3 2-2 - Ferrer displays a good variety from service to hold again and keep the status quo here in the second set for now.
- - FERRER 6-3 1-2 - A squeaky-clean and ruthlessly-fast hold to love from Del Potro as the pace of the second set so far is much improved from the first.
- - FERRER 6-3 1-1 - The Argentine actually looks more spritely now than he did before catching his knee, so good news regarding his health. It does little help his chances of breaking the Spaniard here, as Ferrer holds comfortably to 15.
-
FERRER 6-3 0-1 - Del Potro recovers from a mid-game wobble to hammer his way to a hold to 30 against Ferrer.
- -
FERRER 6-3 - SET! And Ferrer holds after Del Potro had done the same to get over the line in the opening set. He and Murray could be on collision course in the last eight.
- - FERRER 5-2 - Ferrer holds for a plum position in the opening set himself on Centre Court, but the story is Del Potro tweaking his knee during that game. He receives some mild treatment before we resume, but he's had problems with the leg before.
- - FERRER 4-2 - The Argentine squanders a triple hold point but re-discovers his groove from deuce with a pair of backhands to pull a game back.
- - FERRER 4-1 - The inconsistency of Ferrer is starting to shore up but the lethargic approach of Del Potro is not improving. He succumbs to Ferrer's first love-service as the lead increases.
- -
FERRER 3-1 - BREAK! - A point-blank reflex backhand brings Del Potro back level at 30-30 but it's not enough to prevent a sloppy break point immediately after in a service game nothing like his first spotless hold. And Ferrer's delicate drop lures the Argentine in to be caught out for the first break of the contest.
- - FERRER 2-1 - Another sweet precision forehand from Ferrer opens up game three, but further inconsistency in service draws the two at 30-30 before Del Potro's backhand drop fails and the Spaniard lights him up with another forehand winner to hold again. Del Potro isn't exactly breaking his back to meet many of his opponent's deliveries, seemingly hoping Ferrer's errors will outweigh the top-drawer swings.
- - FERRER 1-1 - Del Potro at least channels the frustration well, showing far more urgency and determination in his first service game than he did replying to Ferrer, and he holds to love.
- - Del Potro has choice words with the umpire afterward, but the decisive point was struck well out by the Argentine.
- - FERRER 1-0 - Ferrer nets a drop attempt but forces the Argentine out with a neat forehand. Cracking return from Del Potro and another net create a double break point, but he undershoots himself before succumbing to another Ferrer forehand for deuce. The Spaniard recovers another two break points from there but backhands two advantages of his own into the net before a lobbed reply goes out by centimetres on his third. Ferrer finally holds on deuce six, his fourth straight, to take the opening gam

Ferrer with first service, and we're underway!
- - Right. The roof being closed on Centre Court has finally led to a playable surface for Ferrer and Del Potro to get underway, with everywhere else still hamstrung by the weather. Should be underway shortly.

The first match up on Centre Court, with play beginning at 12:00 sees seventh seed David Ferrer takes on ninth seed Juan Martin Del Potro in their crunch fourth-round clash.

David was incredible this afternoon in defeating "Goliath" in the guise of Juan Martin del Potro. What David is doing for smaller guys out-there almost defies imagination. That's WHY you've gotta LOVE this guy! To beat Del Potro easily in straight set is simply extraordinary! It's not as if Juan Martin played badly: he actually played pretty well - it's just that David was quite sensational! If David plays like this against Andy, then Andy will need to produce his A game in order to keep David at bay, and ultimately overcome him. Anything less from Andy, and David will most likely win!
Fantastic Effort David. Shows us all what heart, guts and determination can achieve. There is no reason why you cannot progress further. All the best.
Congratulations David. Very well played. A very deserving winner. Good luck in your next match.
congrats ferrer. well done and well deserved.
Brent: I think your comments are directed to GREAT Eddie, not me plain Eddie. I like your comments though as you gave some good INFO.
Murray vs Ferrer will be a good one. Murray is heavily favored but Ferrer has been playing good and it looks like grass is like clay to him. A FIRST GS for the winner is very possible. Stay tuned.
Eddie - Safin was a huge talent - much bigger than DelPo. He won 2 majors (decimated Sampras in the us open final when he was like 19 and took Federer out in the semis in an epic match at Australia - Fed's only loss at a non-French slam over a 4 year span) and had he been more focused on tennis and suffered fewer injuries it's unlikely Federer would have ever broken Sampras record. As for DelPo, he's a much harder worker than Safin who suffered a very serious wrist surgery after finally breaking through. He still hasn't regained his form from '09.
Eddie - Wimbledon was DelPo's best performance at a slam in 2011. And Ferrer has made the quarters "already"? Ferrer has just now made the quarters for the first time in 10 attempts. This was DelPo's 5th Wimbledon and probably not more than his 8th tournament on grass. He certainly didn't look like he belonged on grass today - but his best results have come on the fastest of hard courts. His game is a good fit for grass - its disappointing he hasn't had better results.
Delpo is nothing but a very good player who won one Major (like Safin) and never lived up to his potential. A one-hit wonder if you will.
I hope Tsonga thumps Murray in the semis. Murray is the worst interviewee in the history of tennis and consistently has the most negative on court energy on the tour. Plus if Murray plays the Djoker the world #1 will decimate his wta caliber 2nd serve.
Brent, Delpo is the one that doesn't belong on grass. In his 7 year career, he has only made it past the 3th round twice. Never to the QF's. Ferrer is a quarterfinalist already. It was a clinic by David and an embarrassing performance by Juan Martin.
Ok now grade this sucker
2012 = Ferrer's all time best Wimbledon. Very unlikely he gets through Murray.
Wow that was a surprise - thought it was going to be a win for Delpo, but he doesn't look like the player he was a few years back, when he beat roger at the US. I am a big fan of David but would rather see Andy go through for the good of the tournament, wnat to see him in the final against Novak.
I don't think the surprising Ferrer on grass will make it to the NadalLESS final. The standing block is the GS- would-be-first timer Andy but you never know, nothing is certain at this point but I hope the GS-hungry Andy will win it. All is going for Andy. No Nadal, Fed is slightly inured and Djoko does not have the form that made him on top of the world in 2011. This is 2012 where we will probably have a new champion! Come on Andy!
I still think Murray will beat ferrer next
Del potro is rubbish lol, I thought this would be a contest
Del Potro has no business losing to Ferrer on grass - if both play their best tennis it's a straight set win for DelPo on that surface. DelPo seems to have become a head case while coming back from his wrist injury - lets line calls and other minor issues really get to him. He also doesn't play the aggressive, confident style he played in 2009 - way too many tentatively struck balls that allow his opponents to take the offensive and push him around. I've been a DelPo fan for a while, but I'm getting exceedingly disappointed with his inability to regain the form he had in '09.
I can't believe Davy has been playing good on a grass surface. This match is in the bag for him. I thought this will be a long 5-setter but instead a short 3-setter. Vamos Ferrer!
If only Ferrer was 6'-1" tall. He might have won a major by now. No one has a bigger heart than David. Most of the time when we get to the QF's it's David vs Goliath. He might break through the Finals this year if he can upset Murray. Will be very very tough to do.
