  6. - - WILLIAMS 6-1 3-1 - Errani takes the first point against the Serena serve with a forehand winner, but Serena bounces back with three consecutive aces to hold and seal the game

  7. - - WILLIAMS 6-1 2-1 - Much, much better from Errani on serve as she drops just the one points, holding when Serena sends a backhand return of serve into the bottom of the net. That's Errani's best, and most comfortable, game yet and it doubles her output in this match

Great, battling work from the Italian - much to the delight of the crowd, who want to see a competitive match even against American favourite Serena

  12. - - WILLIAMS 5-0 - Just 21 minutes on the clock and Errani is already staring at having to serve to stay in this opening set as Serena holds once again to consolidate the double break, hammering down an ace to seal the game

  13. - - WILLIAMS 4-0 - BREAK - Serena squanders a break point with a backhand into the net but she quickly gets a second chance with a backhand winner down the line. And a vicious backhand return of serve winner seals the double break at the second time of asking for the American

  14. - - WILLIAMS 3-0 - Another very speedy service hold for Serena and Errani finds herself 3-0 down in double quick time. I vitally important service hold coming up for the Italian already as this set quickly gets away from her

  15. - - WILLIAMS 2-0 - BREAK - Serena will be pretty happy with that start as she grabs an early break very quickly indeed. She is hitting the ball way to hard for Errani in the opening couple of games of this match and the Italian is just struggling to find her range

  16. - - WILLIAMS 1-0 - Serena eases through an opening service hold to get the scoreboard ticking over. It is vital Errani makes a posistive start on her own serve, otherwise the writing could be on the wall very early on indeed

Errani has improved considerably since then and has been enjoying a particularly impressive season.
