- - An emotional Andy Roddick: "I just want to say thank you to my family - my mum and dad are here, they gave me every chance. My support team have been with me forever. One thing I'm not scared about retirement is the people I go home to, they're great."
6-4 - GAME, SET AND MATCH DEL POTRO! Roddick bows out of the match and tennis as Del Potro comes up with another hugely impressive service game. Almost as good as a Roddick service game. A hold to love for Del Potro. The tears begin to flow from Roddick and his wife. He is very emotional. As are the crowd. As are mum and dad.
5-4 - DEL POTRO 5-4 Roddick forced to save a break and match point. Almost in tears as he threw that ball down, but Del Potro is long with the return. And he is long again seconds later. Roddick's parents already close to tears, but Roddick comes up with the goods. A winning volley at the net sees him extend the match. Needs to break here otherwise it is all over. Roddick looks very emotional. His wife is in tears in the stands.
5-3 - DEL POTRO 5-3 - Another routine, secure service game from Del Potro. Del Potro is a brute of a man on court, but he has such delicate touch and precision with the racket. A comfortable hold and Roddick is one game away from the end. In more ways than one.
4-3 - DEL POTRO 4-3 - A love game from Roddick to continue this match. The photographers all poised for what could be Roddick's last throw of the dice. Needs a break now. Difficult to see where it is coming from.
4-2 - DEL POTRO 4-2 - Another assured service game from Del Potro just when he needs it more. Roddick really under the hammer out there. Will he get a chance to retrieve the break. Looks unlikely, but he must hold in this game.
3-2 - BREAK DEL POTRO 3-2 - Del Potro showing plenty of patience. Making sure he returns the ball with enough pace to trouble Roddick. A strong returning game pays off as Del Potro breaks in the fifth game of the match. Looks ominous for Roddick now. He is broken. And could be heading for the exit door.
2-2 - 2-2 - Del Potro levels proceedings at 2-2 in the fourth set. That Del Potro serve and forehand delivering some crushing blows to the Roddick game. Vital that Roddick holds one suspects or this match could be over quite quickly.
1-2 - RODDICK 2-1 - Roddick taken to deuce on his serve but goes advantage up with an ace then closes out the game from there.
1-1 - 1-1 - A tough, tough game. Roddick forced a couple of break points, but couldn't convert them despite the help of the crowd. Del Potro remains calm to ensure he isn't broken in the fourth set. Roddick has lifted his game since that mediocre third set. Life in this match yet.
0-1 - RODDICK 1-0 - The alarm bells were ringing when Roddick lost the first point of that game, but he recovers superbly well and is suddenly cutting an animated figure on court. All good for the great American hope in that game. Can he put some pressure on the Del Potro serve.
6-2 - SET DEL POTRO - Roddick never really in that set. Broken in the first game and the third game of that set. Never really at the races. If he loses this set, the match and his career is officially over. What has Roddick got left in the tank?
5-2 - DEL POTRO 5-2 - Roddick keeps the set going by holding serve, but for how long is his luck going to last as Del Potro comes out to serve for a 2-1 lead in the match.
5-1 - DEL POTRO 5-1 - Del Potro looks like he is playing a training match out there. Superb stuff. Court not full for this one. Which is a pity. Because it seems like this is going to be Roddick's final match.
4-1 - Roddick wins a vital fifth game of this set to claw himself back to 4-1 behind in the third set. A cry of 'c'mon' from Roddick at the end of that game, but not sure how much that is going to help him. Roddick with 22 unforced errors compared to 33 from Del Potro.
4-0 - Del Potro cements the double break for a 4-0 lead. The first serve is working a treat for Del Potro. Setting him up for the heavy groundstrokes. Roddick with no answer at the moment.
3-0 - BREAK DEL POTRO 3-0 - The double break for Del Potro. Superb hitting of the ball. World class tennis from the seventh seed and suddenly the retiring American is facing real problems. Roddick not getting enough first serves into play. Simple as that. He is two breaks down in this set.
2-0 - DEL POTRO 2-0 - Roddick looked as if he was going to smash his racket at one point in that game. Looking a bit frustrated as Del Potro recovers from trailing 30-0 to move 2-0 clear in this third set.
1-0 - BREAK DEL POTRO - Roddick loses his concentration and is broken at the outset of the third set. Dangerous times for Roddick. Seems to have lost his concentration and Del Potro is picking him off with some ease when he comes to the net.
7-6 - SET DEL POTRO - Roddick throwing in a few errors at the wrong time as Del Potro comes up with the goods at the key moments to snare the breaker 7-4. Superb response from the big Argentine. Roddick's backhand letting him down from deep as a couple of mediocre efforts hands Del Potro the momentum in this match.
6-6 - 6-6 - All level then in the second set as Roddick produces an accomplished service game to complete the pattern of swapping games with monotonous regularity. On we go then here. What a big moment this is for both men.
6-5 - DEL POTRO 6-5 - Don't need to be a genius to work out that this set should be heading for a breaker. Neither man looks like being broken in regular time. Roddick will serve to force the match to the second tie-break of the match.
5-5 - 5-5 - Not even a sniff of a break in that game. Roddick level at 5-5 with the aid of the serve plus the booming forehand. Roddick is looking really sharp out there, and focused. Watched by his parents and a raucous crowd.
5-4 - DEL POTRO 5-4 - Del Potro applies the pressure at the key moment. That forehand is a thing of real beauty. Gets Roddick on the move to move ahead by the odd game in nine. Would be some story if Roddick can win this tournament, but he needs to break down that Del Potro serve.
4-4 - Another hold for Roddick as he levels up at 4-4. This match is looking fairly predictable. Looks like we are heading for the breaker unless there is a slip in concentration or momentum.
4-3 - DEL POTRO 4-3 - Never easy serving second in a set, but Roddick will have to do things the hard way here if he is to win this set. A 4-3 lead for the big man from Argentina in this second set. All boiling up nicely.
3-3 - Another games slips by, another hold for Roddick. Roddick up to 29 winners compared to 18 from the racket of Del Potro. Certainly working hard here to stay in touch with the seventh seed.
3-2 - DEL POTRO 3-2 - Del Potro holding a 3-2 lead in the second set. No sign of that fabled break coming at the moment with both of these men showing why they are such big servers.
2-2 - No sign of a break yet in the second set of this contest. Games continue on serve. Remember we have Andy Murray's match in the fourth round against Marin Cilic coming up for you after this. Not sure yet what court that is going to be on.
2-1 - DEL POTRO 2-1 - A comfortable enough hold for the seventh seed to move ahead by the odd game in three in the second set. This set could be decided by one break. Little between these men so far.
1-1 - Roddick quick to restore parity at 1-1 in this second set. Hitting the ball with some pace. Is now up to seven aces with Del Potro managing only three.
1-0 - DEL POTRO 1-0 - Del Potro holds at the outset of the second set. Vital to keep in touch here with the momentum and the crowd firmly behind Roddick.
6-7 - SET RODDICK! Stunning stuff from the American as he blitzs his opponent 7-1 in the breaker to move one set ahead in the match. Could be his last match today. Unlikely to be in this form. Roddick quick out of the blocks then to lead 1-0.
6-6 - Roddick and Del Potro almost ready to resume here in their first set tie-break with Roddick one point ahead in the break. Points on serve.
18.21 - The action in the women's singles is off and running. We have Roddick against Del Potro coming up to a conclusion after the match between Sharapova and Bartoli.
