I thought that the rule changes were meant to even up the petrol and diesel cars but it looks like the petrol cars are agin going to be left to pick up the pieces. One has to admire Audi for their brilliance at le mans but I would like to see closer racing throughout, A few years ago there were a number of teams all in with a chance of winning but these days it is a bit of a two horse race.
I doubt Audi will go for F1 but you never know. Peugeot made F1 engines but they were not very succesful.
It horses for courses Mercedes,Ferrari, Renault,Ford in F1. Citroen, Mini (BMW) do rallies and Audi, Peugeot Aston Martindo sports cars. BMW do not have any really high profile sport involvement though. Most Japanese manufacturers cannot afford to be in the big league they just have not got the design talent Toyota F1 and Sports cars were both designed and built in Germany, Nissan LM cars were designed and built in Britain by Arrows, the BMW winning LeMans car was designed and built by Williams
@ everyone the tail fins is ugly....but as mentioned above its there to keep the cars stable when it corners..As for development of the car and aero's...if the car manufactur. were allowed to go to town on that...i thinm audi would be unstoppable....2 years ago when audi launched the R15, the PUGS started complaining of the aero's on the Audi, even thought the PUGS approved and the FIA approved the car before it hit the track and everthing was within regulations....that was the year the PUGS won LE mans...thus if you notice since that year, the cars have become more restrictive, smaller etc...its the same with what happend when AUDI dominated touring cars, the FIA and other manufacturers ganged up and changed the rules to make the cars less restrictive and less room for development... ...the only option for AUDI after dominating le mans after all these years...will be F1, would love to see them in F1 and clean out all the races or shear technology and advance aero's development...but the way F1 is going and @#$% footing with all the rules changes...i dnt think it will happen soon enough...
I agree it is regulation ugliness. plus if there is are strong gusty crosswinds surely it will affect the balance of the cars quite a bit. F1 drivers moan about the same issue with the fins on their cars.
Spunky Rabbit - I do not doubt that it is 'regulation body work' but it is so ugly! These used to be, by modern standards, pretty to beautiful cars! I know you don't win the 24 hours for having the prettiest cars..... but that fin is truly ugly. Cant wait for June though..............................
Errr V and Rob, sorry to piss on your parades, but that rear fin is a regulation piece of body work.
If results prove there is a monopoly for Audi or any other team we motorheads become less interested, we need action and surprises.
The Aerodynamics have been tested heavily over the winter and the new "tail fin" is without doubt help to keep the backend in place - just watch the bugger go round corners. Of course expect the French to do a fast crib job before the big race!
Bloody adverts!!!!!! Sorry here but Why do we have to put up with an intel ad at the beginning of this, put it at the end where we can do what we all do TURN IT OFF!!
Audi's car is superb but why does it have to have that stupid bloody fin like a F1 car is it just advertising space posing as an aerodynamic fix. I wish designers would plough their own furrow instead of following sheep like with fins here blades there etc etc
It's pretty and the car is new and ahead of it's time audi is going to blow the rest of the cars away.
