The Swiss quadruple Olympic champion benefited from compensation points awarded for strong winds to take the victory after finishing fourth in last week's opener in Oberstdorf.

Ammann won with a jump of 131m and 142.1 points after the competition was reduced to one jump even through Russia's Pavel Karelin jumped 132.4m and Poland's Adam Malysz 132m to give them 138.3 and 138 points respectively.

Finland's Janne Ahonen, the holder of a record five Four Hills titles, finished fifth with 133.2 points behind Anders Jacobsen of Norway.

Austrian Thomas Morgenstern, who won the first leg of the prestigious event last Wednesday, could only finish 14th but still holds a 13.5-point lead on Amman with the final two events in Innsbruck on January 3 and Bischofshofen on January 6..

Defending Four Hills champion Andreas Kofler narrowly avoided a nasty fall during a failed jump of 100.5m which relegated him to 50th overall. "Thank God we didn't have any injuries, but a lot of athletes were shaken. We should have called it off," said Austrian coach Alexander Pointner of the difficult conditions.
