Juventus have confirmed the signing of Netherlands international winger Eljero Elia from Hamburg.

Elia moves to Turin for an £8 million fee after signing a four-year contract, and leaves struggling Hamburg bottom of the Bundesliga after four matches of the new season.

"I know a lot about Juventus," Elia said on the club's official website. "This is the biggest club in Italy.

"For me it was very important that the coach [Antonio Conte] wanted me in making this decision."

The 24-year-old, who had grown dissatisfied at Hamburg, rejected the possibility of a move to Galatasaray, as well as a host of clubs from England, where Holland coach Bert van Marwijk was keen to see him go.

Elia said: "My agent did have contact with Arsenal but it took too long. I had no contact with Arsene Wenger. Wigan, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle had fairly concrete interest."

Elia becomes only the third Dutchman to play for Juve. However his two predecessors, Edwin van der Sar and Edgar Davids, both enjoyed trophy-laden spells with the bianconeri.

"I hope I can do as well as them," said Elia. "I want to show what I can do.

"I know I can bring speed and skill to Juventus, and I hope to score a lot of goals."
