Dominic Klemme won the GP Samyn one-day race in Belgium, the Schleck brothers’ new Leopard Trek team’s first win on the UCI pro tour.
Germany’s Klemme chased down Kevyn Ista of Cofidis after the Belgian broke away from the peloton, overtaking him on the final climb and easing to victory in Dour after a 193.1km ride from Frameries.
Ista was second, with Klemme’s team-mate Robert Wagner winning the bunch sprint to take third.
"I’m super happy," Klemme said afterwards. "I had cramps in the final kilometres, but I knew I had to hang in there because everyone was half dead back in the chase.
"I wasn’t sure my attack was going to last until the finish line, but the top of the climb was visible, so I could see the finish all the time. I was super motivated to win this one for us."
The 24-year-old Klemme was one of several Team Saxo Bank riders to defect to the new Leopard Trek team along with Andy and Franck Schleck.
