Svendsen takes season opener in Ostersund

Norway's double Olympic champion Emil Hegle Svendsen made a flying start to his biathlon World Cup campaign, storming to victory in the season-opening indivudal 20km in Ostersund, Sweden.
The 25-year-old winner of three world titles, completed the course in 55 minutes, seven seconds and finished top of the podium after just two misses in the shooting round.
Not a single competitor was able to complete the course with a flawless shooting record, and it was Svendsen's compatriot and 36-year-old veteran Ole Einar Bjoerndalen who collected silver.
Bjoerndalen, who has won six Olympic gold medals and an incredible 14 world titles, finished 19.1 seconds off the pace as he completed an excellent day for Norway.
Bronze went to Martin Fourcade of France who came home 37.8 seconds slower than Svendsen, who has already laid down a formidable marker as he seeks to defend his overall World Cup crown.
