First win for Kreder in Angers
Michel Kreder (Garmin-Cervelo) outsprinted Daniele Bennati (Leopard-Trek) to take the first professional win of his career in stage two of the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe in Angers.
The Dutch rider was able to take the victory despite not being noted as a sprint specialist and it continued a mixed start to the season for Garmin-Cervelo.
The recently merged team now have 10 wins to their name already in 2011 despite their disappointing performances in the major classics.
The stage came down to a sprint after a breakaway group of Kevin Reza (Europcar), Arnaud Gerard (FDJ), Cyril Bessy (Saur-Sojasun) and Matthieu Sprick (Skil-Shimano) were chased down inside the final 5km.
Bennati, who won the opening stage, holds a four second lead over Samuel Dumoulin in general classification.
Stage three of five is a 6.8km time trial around Angers takes place later on Wednesday.
