Rain forces Superbike cancellation at Monza

The opening World Superbike race of the weekend was cancelled by a torrential downpour which saw three accidents in as many laps at Monza.
The race started in dry, overcast conditions but quickly descended into chaos as the heavens opened, with Marco Melandri, Mark Aitchison, John Hopkins, David Salom and Sergio Gadea all crashing out.
The race was originally scheduled to restart at 12:40pm UK time, but the riders are held a meeting to discuss cancelling it entirely over fears about using the Pirelli treaded tyres which have been strongly criticised for breaking up after just a few laps.
