Premier League - Transfers: Liverpool join Cole chase

Liverpool will join Tottenham in trying to sign freed Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, according to The Sun.

The newspaper says that new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson sees Cole as the ideal replacement for Yossi Benayoun, who recently joined Chelsea from Liverpool in a 5.5m transfer.

The Sun also claims Chelsea are leading the chase for Germany midfielder Sami Khedira, who it says has "emerged as one of the stars of the World Cup after replacing injured Michael Ballack in the German side".

The paper reports that Stuttgart are willing to sell the player for 12m while they believe Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is considering a move for Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles in a 12m deal.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror says that Manchester City "flop" Robinho has been offered to Valancia in a season-long loan move as they attempt to find a club who will be willing to pay part of the Brazil striker's 150,000 weekly wage.

The Mirror also claims Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is studying a possible offer for Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic, who it believes is available for an estimated 4m.

Newcastle may be on the brink of signing Manchester United's Tom Cleverley on a season-long loan deal, according to the Mirror.

The Daily Mail is tipping Hodgson to battle it out with Sunderland in the race to sign Wigan left-back Maynor Figueroa for 6m.

Jermaine Pennant is being offered to West Ham and Wigan 12 months after he signed for Real Zaragoza, according to the Mail, which also claims that Birmingham are in the market for Marseille's Ghana winger Andre Ayew in a 5.5m deal.

The Daily Star says that Bayern Munich have warned English Premier League clubs that none of their top players will sold this summer.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Mueller, Philipp Lahm and Miroslav Klose are not for sale despite expected interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, according to the Star
