Flatland wins in Oberhof
Norway's Ann Kristin Flatland upstaged the local favourites to clinch IBU biathlon World Cup victory in Oberhof, Germany on Satruday.
All eyes were on Germans Magdalena Neuer – a two-time Olympic gold medallist from Vancouver 2010 – and Andrea Henkel, who achieved a similar feat at Salt Lake City 2002.
But it was Flatland who ruled the roost in the 7.5km sprint, clocking 23:39.5 minutes after enduring just one penalty lap to secure gold.
Silver went to Neuer, who missed two targets and finished 5.7 seconds off the pace while Henkel had just one miss but finished a further 9.5 seconds behind.
Kaisa Makarainen of Finland continues to lead the World Cup rankings on 394 points, ahead of Helena Ekholm (321) and fellow Swede Anna Carin Zidek (291).
