World number eight Robin Soderling has withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters with a knee injury.
"I’ve had some problems with my knee since the Miami tournament," the Swedish number one said on his personal website. "The pain has just escalated the more tennis I’ve played.
"My doctor has now examined my knee, and I’ve made the not to play next week’s tournament in Monte Carlo. This is very sad since Monte Carlo is my 'home' tournament and one of my favourite tournaments of the year.
"Now I have one week of rest and rehabilitation, and I will hopefully be back to compete in the Barcelona tournament that starts on the 19th of April."
Soderling, 25, was the beaten finalist in last year’s French Open, having become the only person to beat Rafael Nadal at the clay-court tournament in Paris.
