Bundesliga - Giefer loses memory, forgets mistake
Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Fabian Giefer cannot remember a mistake he made in the defeat to Mainz at the weekend after suffering a concussion in the same match.
The 21-year-old collided with Mainz striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the 84th minute of the match, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Leverkusen.
He completed the game but was taken to hospital afterwards, staying overnight and now saying that he cannot remember a thing from the match or the build-up.
He said: "I have a complete mental blank, I could not even remember how we played.
"I cannot remember our preparation for the game, the hotel in Mainz or even our training camp in Zillertal.
"I have lost one month's memory and that is pretty scary."
One plus for the young stopper is that he cannot remember anything of the incident that he has been widely criticised for that led to one of the Mainz goals.
He continued: "I don't know anything about my mistake."
