Liga - Real Madrid put four past Getafe
Real Madrid were run close by neighbours Getafe as they ran out 4-2 winners at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to go two points clear of Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
Karim Benzema's first goal of the season capped off a dominant early period for Real, but Miku equalised for Getafe in the run-up to half-time.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot on the hour mark and Benzema added a second nine minutes later, but again Miku scored to rekindle hopes of making the short trip back to the south of the Spanish capital with a point.
However, substitute Gonzalo Higuain added a fourth late on to secure the win for Real.
Following Barcelona's 2-2 draw at Real Sociedad earlier on Saturday, Real are now two points ahead of their bitter rivals just two games into the campaign.
Benzema's opener on 14 minutes had seemed inevitable from the kick-off, especially Getafe goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya had to be alert to tip Ronaldo's header over the bar. It was a sublime move which saw Marcelo play Fabio Coentrao down the left channel and the Portuguese square to Mesut Ozil. The German teed up Benzema to fire a crisp finish past Moya.
It was typical exhibition from Real as they toyed with a side they had beaten in their last five league meetings, but they were stunned on 38 minutes when Medhi Lacen stabbed a reverse pass into Miku's path. The striker beat the Real offside trap and finished clinically past Iker Casillas to draw Getafe level.
The start of the second half saw plenty of action Miku forcing a save from Casillas and Pedro Rios, Ronaldo and Coentrao all going close, but it was the home side that went ahead once more on the hour.
Ronaldo was caught by the stray leg of Cata Diaz right on the edge of the area and the referee pointed immediately to the spot. Replays showed that the foul had been committed a fraction outside the box, and Getafe boss Luis Garcia was later sent to the stand for his continued protestation, but Ronaldo stepped up to beat Moya from 12 yards for his fourth league goal of the season.
Ronaldo showed wonderful vision to set up Benzema for his second and Real's third when he picked the France striker out with a pinpoint curling ball along the turf from the left wing, and Benzema swept it home first-time.
Dani Guiza came off the bench on 73 minutes for Getafe and had an immediate impact when his shot was saved by Casillas but fell to Miku, who sidestepped past a defender to drill a neat finish into the net.
Higuain then went one better however, by scoring less than a minute after coming on when he was set free by a backheeled flick from fellow substitute Kaka to register Real's 10th goal in their opening two league games.
