Vacansoleil snap up Larsson
Swedish time trial specialist Gustav Erik Larsson has joined Vacansoleil-DCM for the 2012 season.
Larsson, 31, won silver in the Olympic 2008 individual time trial, second place at the World Championship time trial in 2009, and won the time trial at last year’s Giro d’Italia.
He was a free agent after leaving Saxo Bank-SunGard.
Sport director Michel Cornelisse said: "Riders with a big engine are important for a team which seeks to perform in all sort of races. A rider like Larsson is capable of winning a race and he can do hard labour for his team-mates.
"It will be one of his tasks to look after the young riders in stage races. For example we missed experience in the 2011 team time trials, in such races he will be of great value."
Larsson is anticipating a busy 2012, particularly with the Olympic Games in London later in the season.
"I am pleased with my new the team," he said.
"The way this team races gives space to all riders and it inspires me to be part of this team in 2012.
"It will be an interesting year with a few riders highlighted in my agenda. One of those races is of course a revenge for the 2008 Olympics."
