Paper Round: Aguero to Arsenal?

With the papers actually writing about sport for a change, we are forced to resort to Twitter for our main topic of the day - the sickly love-in between Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Aguero.

Last night, after watching the Argentine inspire Atletico Madrid to a 3-0 win over Real Sociedad, Fabregas tweeted: "Kun Aguero is so good. Anyone would want him in their team."

Aguero responded in kind, tweeting: "Thanks very much Cesc. And what team couldn't use a Fabregas?"

What can it all mean? Well, let's set aside the strong likelihood that it was two footballers being polite to each other, and settle on a more sensationalist viewpoint - that the pair will be playing on the same team next season.

Fabregas has had no end of come-and-join-us pleas from Barcelona players - might he go to Atletico instead?

Will Aguero be the first big signing of the Stan Kroenke era at Arsenal?

Or will Paper Round have to stop clutching so wildly at straws when neither scenario comes to pass?

Elsewhere, Manchester City are considering entering the race to sign much-coveted England defender Gary Cahill.

The Bolton man is wanted by a host of top clubs, and could fetch as much as £20 million at the end of the season.

Roberto Mancini is looking to strengthen his defensive options, particularly in light of Kolo Toure's potential drugs ban.

However, the Daily Mirror reports that City face competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Uruguayan teenager Juan Cruz Mascia - they have invited the striker to London for talks, and could sign him from Miramar for around £1m.

Finally to Italy, where Juventus have stated their intention to make the loan of Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool permanent - that's according to the Old Lady's general manager Beppe Marotta.
