League One - Top-two blow for Swindon

Swindon's automatic promotion hopes were dealt a severe blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Exeter at the County Ground.

Swindon Town's Danny Ward and Exeter City's Ryan Taylor compete for the ba - 0

Matthew Taylor's own goal deep into injury time salvaged a point for the Robins just when they seemed set to lose for the second successive game following the 3-0 reverse at Colchester on Saturday.

It means they are one point adrift of second-placed Millwall, who head to Yeovil tomorrow night.

Exeter, who went into the game on an eight-game unbeaten run, took the lead four minutes before the break when James Dunne finished neatly in the box to shoot past David Lucas after Ryan Taylor had broken well to provide the chance although TV replays showed he might just have been offside.

Ryan Taylor should have put Exeter ahead after 29 minutes when he completely miss-kicked 12 yards out but the visitors will put this point down to a well-organised defensive display as they came with a gameplan to stop the Swindon strike-force of Billy Paynter and Charlie Austin which very nearly succeeded.

Swindon bombarded the Exeter goal during most of the second half but looked destined to concede all three points despite a Simon Ferry shot being headed off the line, efforts blocked and several fine saves by goalkeeper Paul Jones before the visitors' luck ran out.
