Poels claims l'Ain lead
Wout Poels won the third stage of the Tour de l'Ain to claim the overall lead.
Poels' team-mate Johnny Hoogerland launched a trademark early attack and was joined by a group of 15 riders.
Rolland (Team Europcar) initiated hostilities on the final climb to Lelex and was accompanied by Moncoutie (Cofidis) and 23-year-old Poels with the trio maintaining their advantage over the chasing group on arrival.
Poels takes over the lead from Frenchman Thibault Pinot, who finished nearly six minutes down, and is 22 seconds ahead of Rolland with Moncoutie third on GC, a further six seconds behind.
Poels recently extended his contract with Vacansoleil to 2013.
The Tour de l'Ain ends on Saturday with the fourth stage when the riders travel 134.8km from Belley to Le Grand Colombier.
