The 30-year-old former South Korea captain, whose previous deal had one year left to run, has made 177 appearances for United, scoring 24 goals, and played in both Champions League final defeats to Barcelona in 2009 and last season.

"Ji has been an important player for us for a number of years now," Sir Alex Ferguson told the club website. "He has great ability and energy and in recent seasons has added the knack of scoring important goals in big games.

"He is a popular member of the squad and his experience at domestic and international level is invaluable for the younger players."

Park, who joined United from PSV Eindhoven in 2005, scored winning goals against Arsenal and Chelsea as United won the league and made the Champions League final for the third time in four seasons.

The first Asian player to feature in a major European final, he expressed his delight at signing a new deal at the Premier League champions.

"I have enjoyed every minute of my time at United," he said.

"I’m delighted to be part of the club during this latest stage in its history - with another exciting young team being built.

"I’m looking forward to playing my part in keeping United at the top of the game."

Park joins Michael Carrick, Chris Smalling, Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia in signing new deals this summer.

United have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in David De Gea, Phil Jones and Ashley Young while offloading John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Gabriel Obertan and Owen Hargreaves among others.

Paul Scholes and Edwin van der Sar both retired at the end of the campaign, while Gary Neville quit during the season.
