Quartet share lead in Malaysia
Brittany Lang, Maria Hjorth, Na Yeon Choi and Dewi Claire Schreefel each shot a five-under 66 to share the first-round lead at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
Paige Mackenzie and Azahara Munoz were one stroke behind at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, with several big names in close attendance.
Solheim Cup quartet Michelle Wie, Stacy Lewis, Suzann Pettersen and Christel Boeljon lie on three under alongside I.K. Kim and Shanshan Feng.
Women's world number Yani Tseng and defending champion Jimin Kang are part of a six-woman group on two under.
"I played really well. Birdied the third hole to get to one-under and just kind of sailed in," Lang said. "I've been hitting it really well and finally got some putts to drop. It just felt very effortless today."
Hjorth was pleased with her showing.
"Everything was really good today," she said. "I felt very comfortable. I felt at peace out there and everything went really well. I hit a lot of greens, driving the ball well. I had a few putts."
Choi said: "I played well the last two months. I finished in contention almost every week, so I feel great about my game. Every year in the beginning of the season I play so-so and then get better and better. So I think my style is gradually getting better at the end of the year."
