La Liga - Forlan finds form in Atletico win
Diego Forlan ended his scoring drought in La Liga as Atletico Madrid beat Osasuna 3-0 at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.
The Uruguayan scored his first goal for over two months to open the scoring, before setting up his strike partner Sergio Aguero for the second.
Forlan then added a second goal after the break after Osasuna's Nacho Monreal had been sent off for a second yellow card.
The win sends Atletico up to fifth in the table ahead of Sunday's matches.
It is often said that a striker going through a barren patch needs a touch of luck to get back in amongst the goals, and Forlan certainly got that when Osasuna keeper Ricardo spilled Aguero's tame shot right into his path on 26 minutes, and the star player at last summer's World Cup made no mistake from close range.
Forlan then turned provider when he chased the impressive Mario Suarez's pass from deep to the byline and chipped the ball over to Aguero at the far post. The Argentine striker headed in to double to lead and register only his second league goal of the campaign.
Osasuna defender Monreal picked up a booking in the first half, and was harshly sent off on the hour mark when he handled Jose Antonio Reyes's pass, although it was more a case of ball-to-hand. After that, Atletico closed the match out on casual style.
If Forlan's opener was fortunate, there was nothing lucky about his second. Simao headed down to Forlan and he took the ball on his chest, cut inside and fired a dipping strike that flew past Ricardo and went just inside the far post.
