The 16-year-old, playing via a wild card, was hoping to catch some grass court form ahead of Wimbledon at the Dutch venue but was ousted in 78 minutes by a player ranked 47th in the world - 210 places above Robson.

Cibulkova's serve proved key to the victory as she gave up just one break point in the entire match to set up a clash with either eighth seed Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain or the Dutch player Arantxa Rus.

Former world number one Dinara Safina's woes continued as she also crashed out against Magdalena Rybarikova.

The Russian got off to a solid start by winning a tie-break to take the opening set 7-6.

But the Slovak hit back, taking the second set 6-4 at the grass court event before going on to win the decider by the same margin.

Rybarikova will face Elena Vesina in the second round, while Safina's season appears to be in tatters - it is now nearly two months since she last won a match.
