France's Jason Lamy Chappuis racked up his third Nordic combined World Cup victory of the season and retook the lead at the top of the overall rankings in Seefeld, Austria.
The America-born Olympic champion produced a soaring leap in the ski jumping event to accrue 139.5 points which gave him a lead of 1:04 minutes going into the cross-country race.
He could only manage a time of 25:33.2 minutes, the 23 fastest in the field, but such was his dominance in the ski jump that Chappuis clung on to take victory by 29.3 seconds.
Magnus Moan of Norway secured second place after clocking the fastest cross-country time – 24:09.5 minutes – but having only managed 111.2 points with his ski jump, he could not reel in Chappuis.
Mikko Kokslien of Norway completed the podium in third place. Having finished eighth in the ski jumping round he was third in the cross-country to make sure of a medal.
Chappuis, thanks to the absence of previous leader Mario Stecher of Austria, returns to the top of the overall leaderboard with 559 points. Stecher stays second on 466 while Kokslien (447) is third.
