The Dugout - Keane wanted Shearer at Old Trafford

EXCLUSIVE: Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes the Red Devils could have been even more successful if they had managed to sign Alan Shearer.
United won seven titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League with Keane among their ranks during a glorious decade at the club.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson unsuccessfully tried to lure Alan Shearer to Old Trafford during the 1990s. Instead, the striker joined Blackburn Rovers for a British record £3.6 million in 1992 and went on to win the title at Ewood Park before his hometown club, Newcastle United, paid a world-record £15m for him four years later.
Keane has wondered what further heights United could have hit if they had managed to sign the player who went on to become the Barclays Premier League's record goalscorer.
Speaking in an exclusive interview in The Dugout about his sporting heroes and favourite players, Keane said: "Alan Shearer was a top player. I still have my moments where I think 'if he had signed for United, what we could have achieved with Shearer in the team'."
You can watch the interview here. On Friday we will be publishing an extended interview with Keane about his time at United and his subsequent management career.
