Europa League - Falcao on fire for Atleti

Atletico Madrid enjoyed a 3-1 win over Lazio after fighting back from a goal down in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash.

Falcao, who top scored in last season's competition for Porto, scored twice in Italy, with Adrian netting the other for Atleti. Miroslav Klose had opened the scoring.

Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv won 4-0 at Salzburg in a comprehensive victory for the Ukranian side. Taison and Marko Devic sandwiched a brace from Jonathan Cristaldo.

Germany's Schalke 04 were glad to grab an equaliser 15 minutes from time to draw 1-1 at Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen, while Legia Warsaw's tie with Sporting Lisbon was also evenly balanced after a 2-2 draw in Poland.

There were away wins for Manchester United and Manchester City, who triumphed 2-0 at Ajax and 2-1 at defending champions Porto respectively, while the third Premier League side Stoke City were beaten 1-0 at home by Valencia.

In the day's other early games, AZ Alkmaar beat Anderlecht 1-0 courtesy of Adam Maher's 35th-minute goal, and Lokomotiv Moscow came from behind to overcome Athletic Bilbao 2-1.

In the later round of matches, FC Twente beat Steaua Bucharest 1-0 in Romania thanks to a goal by Ola John, Poland’s Wisla Krakow held Standard Liege 1-1, while Udinese and PAOK ground out a goalless draw.

Hanover came from behind to beat Club Brugge 2-1, while PSV Eindhoven held on to a 2-1 win at Turkey’s Trabzonspor.
